One moment, Cole is working at the refinery—just another day in the grind. The next, meteors rain down from the sky, ending life as he knows it. But death doesn’t come. Instead, a mysterious woman saves him… and he wakes up decades later in a world utterly transformed.
Welcome to Earth, post-Reunion—a place where dimensions have collided, twisting reality into something strange and savage. Raiders prowl in cobbled-together death machines, vampiric Core-Eaters hunt by moonlight, and Cultivators wield powers that defy the laws of physics.
Now, Cole has powers of his own—and enemies who see him as a threat. With fierce allies at his side and beautiful companions in his corner, Cole must rise, fight, and carve a path through chaos. The world is broken—but he just might be the one to forge a new beginning.
This box set contains the complete Highway Hero series, consisting of book 1 - 3.
This is a three book series that is for the nomad in all of us. The third book was the weakest of the three. I really enjoyed the first two books as we are introduced to this new reality after the invasion of the Pale. Some of my gripes for the series and the third book in particular: there is no romance. I understand after an apocalypse that things are a little bit different, but women will still be women and romance should still exist. Delilah is a Pale, other then Willow, who is a Dusk, a race conquered by the Pale, nobody has a problem with one of the enemy being a companion to Cole, the MC and the leader of the Dirty 8 brotherhood. There is another thing that struck me as odd, Cole who had only been active for maybe 15 days (he was found in a vault full of dead people after the purge when the Pale arrived. Delilah had placed him in a suspended animation which lasted for 50+ years until he was found by Lorena and Jimmy and activated) said that he greeted each member of the Dirty 8 brotherhood knowing each one's name after having spent months of brotherhood with them. He had only been with them 3 days before he had to flee due to some treachery, in which half of the brotherhood were killed by leeches. The first book was the best of the series.
Dropping after the first book. (DNF @35%) The transition from book 1 to book 2 was very jarring. It felt like starting a whole new story on a similar world, but not quite the same as the one that came before. Perhaps I'm just getting to be a crotchety old man, but I decided to dump the book and find something else to read.
This is a world ending story that will weave all around you until you are a character yourself. The storyline will weave your emotions, and you will feel empathy with the other characters. I really enjoyed reading Highway Hero and believe that you can fit in the story just fine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
This adventure is a fantastic read, bringing si-fi, adult themes, and excitement into one epic tale. I would recommend over 18 years to read and enjoy.
