So this is the first book I finished since the year started, so I am going to give it points for that too!
This book was a beautiful collection of poetry and prose and literally perfect metaphors woven into emotions so amazingly!
I love Deveree's portrayal of longing and loss of a long relationship while also showing how strong it is to be your own person despite your relationships and how endings don't always have to be about rotting in bed and being sad ( though that depiction was also on point! ) but also about how endings can also mean new beginnings for yourself.
There are tiny one-liners in between the poems in this book and lord woww. She created such an impact with small sentences it blew my mind!
If you're a taylor swift fan you would understand a lot of references here to her songs which can be a good thing or a bad depending on how you read those words. For me, there were times I enjoyed it but there were also times where it threw me off because it felt like I already know this from the TS song.
Overall, this book was dark, emotional, metaphorical, intelligently woven between grief and finding yourself.
I had an honor of being an ARC reader for this and I just want to say I'm grateful I got to review one of my fellow indie poet and read their work and the art!
I read this as an ARC in one sitting. Deveree's words are so poetically beautiful and descriptive. Because she writes from her own pain, she really captures the complexities of emotions that follow a difficult breakup. I think many people (women particularly) will relate to this section and find comfort or solidarity in her words. This book was fire -- powerful like a hurricane, with glimpses of calm in the eye of the storm. I super highly recommend!
I DEVOURED THIS! I couldn’t put it down once I started! The imagery and the metaphors are so beautifully and tragically curated. I was so immersed. It’s both haunting and inspiring. It’s relatable and accurately describes some of the struggles when dealing with relationships and mental illness. It’s intense, hearty, bold and with such a delicate balance of self destruction and self healing. I LOVED IT! I hope there’s more to come! I was sad when I ran out of pages to turn!
i was SO lucky to be an ARC reader for this book because it is arguably the best poetry book i’ve read in a long time! deveree’s prose was simultaneously heartbreaking and heart healing. i can’t remember the last time i felt so seen by a book before. the taylor swift easter eggs and inspired pieces made me want to scream because they truly would make taylor herself unbelievably proud. the writing in this book is so powerful, “hurricane her” couldn’t be a more fitting title for it.
While this book was darker than I'd expected, it was very well written, and I will be following the work of Extein moving forward. I found so many of these poems relatable and I loved her descriptive visuals. I can't wait to read the rest of Deveree's work!
Loved this collection of poetry so damn much! felt as if I was stepping into Deveree’s lil diary entry and confession! The themes are heavy, so please check the trigger warnings that Deveree puts at the start of her book, but also before the poetry pieces with these themes. The way she expresses these experiences and traumatic events is like taking a knife to the chest, but in the best way possible! When I read poetry I want to feel vulnerable, I want to feel the emotions sharply, whether that be sadness or joy; and this is what Deveree creates! 🥰 So beyond proud of you and this incredible collection dear, sending lots of love 🤎 RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(4.75)
This collection was so raw and emotional, you felt it, but also couldn't stop reading. Each poem in Hurricane Her hits like a wave—unexpected, powerful, and deeply human. Extein captures heartbreak, identity, resilience, and longing in a deeply personal and universally relatable way.
