From the Journals of Dr. John H. If this humble volume should find its way into the hands of one who suffers as I once did—lost, haunted, and uncertain if healing is even possible—then know you are not alone. The path I followed was neither simple nor straight, but it began with one small choice… to stop hiding from myself.
May these pages serve as both map and mirror, and may you find, as I did, that the mind can be trained and the heart can be softened—especially when guided by a most remarkable friend.
If no one has told you this your wounds do not make you weak. They make you worthy of compassion, understanding, and peace. You are not broken. You are becoming.
Let this book be your companion through the darkest fog.
I did not expect this book to stay with me the way it has. It feels true to the spirit of Conan Doyle, yet it dares to go much deeper. Dr. Watson’s struggles with grief and emotional scars are written with such honesty that I found myself stopping to reread certain lines. The author blends DBT skills into the story so seamlessly that you learn without feeling like you are being taught. Watson’s explanation of the ACCEPTS method was especially powerful. It felt less like a lesson and more like watching an old friend quietly figure out how to keep going. The illustrations are simply beautiful and add another layer of depth to the story.
This is not just another Holmes pastiche. It feels like a personal conversation across time, one that offers comfort, insight, and a surprising sense of hope. By the last page, I was not only entertained, but I felt lighter. If you care about Sherlock Holmes, or if you have ever needed a story that understands the weight of grief, this is one I would recommend without hesitation.
DBT with Sherlock Holmes is unlike anything I’ve read. Through Watson’s honest voice, we follow not just thrilling mysteries, but deep emotional battles, grief, trauma, and the struggle to feel again. Sherlock guides Watson with both logic and compassion, while teaching real DBT tools like mindfulness and emotion regulation. The stories feel like classic Holmes adventures, but carry powerful lessons that hit close to home. This book doesn’t feel like therapy, it feels like hope wrapped in fiction. If you're looking for a meaningful, story driven way to heal, this is it.
I’ve wanted to learn more about DBT or Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I thought this book would be an interesting and creative way to learn about it. The book is set up with introduction of a term or acronym, then it is displayed in a Sherlock Holmes story with an afterword from Dr. Watson about the idea to help reinforce. I thought it was a creative look at the subject.
I appreciate the vision and creativity of this book. Using Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes to teach DBT skills is brilliant. The stories were very relatable and steered the lessons forward in an easily understandable and entertaining way. Nelson Grey’s book is a blueprint for healing and road map to a better life after experiencing tragedy.
This book has a very unique concept that I thought might be a bit of gimmick but the tips are so helpful. It does an excellent job of being entertaining through the relatable story telling while making the lessons easy to understand.
