Broken Code: The Genesis of Rebellion

Rate this book
DNA is the ultimate weapon. The next war won’t be fought—it will be programmed.

Memphis attorney Harper “Brass” Brasfield’s life is hanging by a thread. Her legal career is collapsing, her family is fractured, and now a case she never wanted is pulling her toward a truth she can’t unsee and a danger she never imagined.

Behind the celebrated promise of a better, safer world lies a hidden experiment: genetic editing technology designed to alter human behavior itself. They claim it’s about eliminating violence, aggression, and chaos. In reality, the world’s most powerful elite are playing god—deciding who is perfected and who is discarded.

As Harper is drawn deeper into a maze of manipulation and shifting loyalties, she discovers the line between scientific progress and outright control is terrifyingly thin. And time is running out.

If they control our DNA, do they control our future?

As someone who closely follows the real-world advances of CRISPR technology, I applaud Monica Chase’s fast-paced timely thriller that explores the profound applications of gene engineering and the ethical implications it poses on altering humans, in ways both benevolent and malevolent. This fictional account follows Harper, a female attorney, passionately advocating for social justice, and Adam, an investigative journalist on a mission to uncover the truth behind a suppressed exposé about a corrupt prison management corporation. Despite its fictional nature, this story is filled with intrigue and carries the shock value that actually could be carried in the headlines of any influential newspaper.
Her vivid writing style skillfully simplifies complex science concepts, making them accessible to non-scientists. This is crucial in conveying the high stakes and grave consequences associated with the potential misuse of CRISPR technology. With each clue they chase, the personalities of her characters become more vibrant, revealing their determination to uncover the motive of the villain and his top-secret team, backed by a select group of ultra wealthy individuals. Road blocks, obstacles, twists and turns. This story has them all.
This book is a must read for anyone who is unaware of how dangerous the development of gene manipulation has become. You won’t regret reading Broken Code. It will leave you craving the next installment of The Helix Chronicles.

Really enjoyed this Memphis-based novel and the connections it makes to a variety of social issues we currently face -- or soon will! For me, the issue of "For Profit" prisons is a current issue that not too many people are concerned about. Other issues brought up by the author include eugenics, how positive PR covers negative or even criminal activities; and, the often-trying family connections we all try to make--sometimes successfully and other times not. Good read!
