Book Review: Standing by Heaven’s Doorstep by Judy Cohen Standing by Heaven’s Doorstep by Judy Cohen is a fascinating blend of science fiction, fantasy, and personal reflection. Drawing from events and memories of her own past, Cohen skillfully reimagines them through a speculative lens, offering readers a collection of imaginative, thought-provoking stories. Cohen’s writing style is marked by terse, precise sentences, making each story accessible and engaging without sacrificing depth. Among the collection, two stood out as personal favorites: the fractured fairy tales, which offer a clever and whimsical twist on familiar childhood stories, and the haunting final tale of Devin—a story that feels unsettlingly plausible in an age where AI toys are becoming more sophisticated. Cohen's ability to intertwine nostalgia with futuristic themes gives her work a unique resonance. I look forward to seeing what she creates next and highly recommend Standing by Heaven’s Doorstep to readers who enjoy speculative fiction with a personal, reflective edge.
