Not for anyone. Not for anything.
Forever starts now.

Characters and Story Needed More Range

It was a too saccharine with two dimensional villains. At no point did the mother (Gwendolyn) feel as though her motivations were realistic. Yes, I get that she was prejudiced against Anna because she was poor, but my goodness. There was no grey area. Simply a black & white and almost cartoonishly so, a villain.

Everything happened fast and yes, the book is just shy of 200 pages which means we’re not going to have fleshed out scenes that had that slow character build up. However, they were reintroduced to each other after 5 years and on day 3 (I kid you not) they were sleeping together. Yikes.

I did not like Nicholas. He was weak and such a push over mama’s boy. It also felt like he never really pursued Anna. He could have searched for her 5years ago, but he chose not to and instead blamed his mother for them breaking up. Huh? You’re an adult, you have autonomy. You could have searched for her if you truly loved her as you claimed.

Leo did not speak like a 5 year old. He spoke like what an adult imagines a 5 year old sounds like. And yes, different children have different levels of maturity, but Leo was not a 5 year old.

There were some weird inconsistencies. When they went to the pizzeria, they sat sandwiching Leo, then in the next paragraph, they’re suddenly across from each other. Another occurrence is when they had just met and Nicholas was saying he met Leo days ago. An editor or proofreader could have grabbed these before publishing because it wasn’t just a one off occurrence.

Though I didn’t hate Anna, I didn’t feel anything for her either. Which arguably, is worse. One gripe that usually have with hidden pregnancy tropes, is that the FMCs tend to take pride in suffering it alone. “Oh, I’m poor and struggling, but I refuse to take your cheque to help me get on my feet with my child. I’d rather go hungry.” Girl, if you don’t take that cheque. Tch! Irritates me to no end when authors make their FMCs long suffering. Making her smart enough to know that she wants nothing to do with a family but that she will need the funds to raise her child takes NOTHING away from her. Readers will understand. In fact, it adds layers to her character instead of this empty husk we got. Please don’t be afraid to make FMCs flawed and petty. They’re human too and humans are multifaceted.

Overall, this was a quick read that was neither good, nor bad. I enjoyed reading some of it, but I just wished we had more character depth. For all of them.

What a heart wrenching story

Prejudiced bougie socialite vultures need to go the way of the dinosaurs. Gwendolyn Everton got her way for five years. But she could not erase the memories and love her son Nicholas had for the love of his life, Anna Howell. When he found out just how much he missed, he finally grew a pair and stood up to his mother. He would not let her keep him from his family ever again. Gwendolyn and her croanie Carolyn tried to force her daughter on Nicholas, but they must not realize is that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. His heart only belonged to Anna and Leo. He'd already missed five years of being a family, he will not miss any more.

I've now read two books by this author and I'm not sure if all of her books follow the same trope; biracial couple is dating and break up due to let's just call it flat out racism by the male lead's parents. The female lead has a secret baby and the couple reunites when the child is 4 or 5.

The last two books I've read had this formula and while I love a secret baby trope, I really wish the lead characters were developed more.

I also think that the parents do wild unrealistic shit in the name of what the book categorizes as hate and prejudice almost to the point of refusing to call it racism. The male leads call it prejudice and hate. and not that I think it's absolutely necessary to just throw out the word racism there. But considering the lengths the parents go through to prevent their son from being reunited with his black girlfriend/mother of his child, I'm confused why we're not using that word.

Y’all. This one snatched my attention and my heart from the first chapter.

Imagine being ghosted by the love of your life—no warning, no closure, just gone. Then five years later, you walk into an art gallery and BAM! There she is. Still fine. Still fierce. Still hiding a major secret.

That’s the energy Vixa Vaughn delivers in Left On Read, Still Obsessed—a deeply emotional, slow-burn second chance romance that had me flipping pages like a woman possessed. Nicholas and Anna’s chemistry is undeniable, and despite the years and betrayal that stand between them, the fire never really went out—it just simmered, waiting to explode.

Nicholas isn’t your typical cold-hearted billionaire. He’s a fashion mogul with a heart, and when he discovers he has a son—Leo, the cutest little scene-stealer with his daddy’s eyes—he doesn't waste time with blame. Instead, he steps up. The man is OBSESSED in the best way. Determined to right his wrongs, protect his new family, and finally put his meddling, manipulative mother in her place. (Spoiler: Gwendolyn deserves every bit of karma that comes her way. I said what I said.)

Anna? Whew, baby. She’s a fighter. She carried her child, chased her dreams, and built a life on her terms—all while grieving a love she never really stopped feeling. Her strength and vulnerability made her so relatable. I admired her tenacity, even when the world (and Nicholas’s mom) tried to break her down.

What worked:
The chemistry was fire. From stolen glances to full-blown passion, Vixa knows how to bring the heat.

The emotional stakes were high—there’s angst, heartbreak, redemption, and real growth.

Leo. That’s it. That’s the sentence.

I LOVED seeing a Black woman in the arts, and a biracial family storyline handled with care and heart.

What didn’t quite land:
Some plot threads (ahem, Sylvia and those tabloid rumors) were left dangling. I wanted one more chapter to tie those up.

The title? Cute, but didn’t fully click for me thematically. I kept waiting for that "Left on Read" moment to hit harder.

But let’s be real—those are minor gripes in an otherwise beautifully told love story.

If you’re a fan of:
✔️ Secret baby drama with emotional payoff
✔️ Billionaire men who aren’t emotionally constipated
✔️ Black girl magic + mama bear energy
✔️ Second chances that hit you in the feels

Then Left On Read, Still Obsessed needs to be on your radar. Vixa Vaughn delivered a romance with depth, heat, and heart—and I’ll definitely be reading more.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

My Rating System:
1⭐️: The book didn’t hold my interest and/or had significant issues that overshadowed any redeeming qualities for me, but generally not my cup of tea. Most likely did not finish the book.
2⭐️: The book didn’t quite resonate with me, and while my experience wasn’t remarkable, I did finish it. It had some redeeming qualities and potential but fell short in execution. Recommendable, though with some reservations.
3⭐️: Good read, but didn’t quite stand out. Still worth recommending to others.
4⭐️: Really enjoyed it and stayed engaged throughout. Would read the book again. Definitely recommendable.
5⭐️: Incredible writing that made me deeply connect with the characters. I was completely absorbed in the world and didn’t want it to end. This book stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I'd gladly reread it and highly recommend it to everyone!.

This is my second book by this author, and though it was remarkably similar to another of her stories, I enjoyed it. I could've done without the many, many, many, MANY reminders that Leo had Nicholas' blue eyes (I mean, after a while, the repetitions just got ridiculous), but it was still good. There was also another aspect that didn't make sense to me. Why was Anna always so worried about not being able to provide for Leo when his dad is an actual multi-billionaire? I understand that her career and independence meant something to her, but did she really think that if she couldn't book any shows, Nicholas would've let his child starve and live on the streets? Every time she made that an issue, I rolled my eyes. I would still recommend this book, though.

Books are rushed

This book had the potential to be so much more but it seems like all her books are just around 200 pages. Another 75-100 pages and all the plot holes could have been filled. So many details are left out, we don’t get to know any of Anna’s family or background. Nicholas is just a CEO with a racial mother but he could have been more than just this one dimensional character. And if he’s a billionaire why couldn’t he have used his resources to find Anna who was in the same city as him for five treats. Helpless billionaires are so unrealistic. I’d love to see the author step away from writing to a formula to writing worth more emotion and content.

Anna and Nicholas story grabbed my attention right from the start. They had a great relationship until he let his mother come between them. He never could get over Anna because of the way she left having no idea what caused her leaving. they reconnect at an art gallery event and the sparks are still in place. When learns the reason behind Anna leaving and the chaos his mother is still causing in her life will it lead them to rekindling their love and a move to finding happiness together.

Left on Read, Still Obsessed

I love how after 5 years neither never forget the special love and bond they shared and how when they reconnected and find out that he had son she never told him about he's not angry for keeping him away. He just a man who got a second chance at love. He chose his son and the woman over his mother and refuse to allow her to get in between his relationship.
That's what real love is. Love it send me of other books you have similar to this one.

👍

I admired Anna pride and determination, she didn’t let circumstances stopped her from reaching her dreams and took care of her little boy. Their love was once in a lifetime, and I loved the way Nicholas was just happy to find her snd a son as a bonus, he didn’t have to many whys , except what did he do wrong. As from Gwendolyn that woman is beyond horrible, as a mother or a human being…
BTW, what happened to Sylvia? What a looser!
Nice read.

Loved it

I couldn't have asked for a better first book from author. This surprisingly had more underlying emotion to it that I thought it would and I actually love that. Nicholas and Anna had a love that never died despite what his mom Anna through. Nicholas was determined to win annabeth and provide her and Leo the son he didn't know he had with everything that they could possibly need and want in life.

Cookie cutter

This is the second book that I've read by this author, and I can say that other than a couple tweaks to the characters and the plot, it's mainly the same story. Also, looking at the second book in this series, it looks to be more of the same. Guy from a rich family, a girl who is Black and poor , is chased off by his rich, bigoted family only to find out weeks later that she's carrying his child. I think this may be the last boom I read by this author.

Good story

I enjoyed this book. Storyline was great. Easy read telling of the ups and downs of the relationship between a mother and son who drove girlfriend away because she didn't fit the mold. It's amazing how controlling people can be if its allowed, and the lengths people will go to have their way. Glad it worked out. This is the first book I've read by this author. Will definitely look to see what else she's written.

redemption read

I found this a riveting read. The main characters, Nicholas and Anna, each had their own journey of redemption, and that gave the story real weight. There were strong themes to deal with—family, reputation, and the fight to do what’s right—that hit the spot of righteousness for me.

That said, my personal preference leans toward a sharper, more direct style. The story sometimes lingers on minor details where I’d rather it stay focused on the heart of the conflict.
Hence the 4 stars ..I’m still invested in the series and I’ll be reading the next book

short & sweet

This is my first time reading from this author, and I was impressed. The chemistry between NICHOLAS & ANNA was very good. The storyline was very good, and kept me enthralled. My only issue was I wanted a backstory as to how the MCs met other than that I enjoyed this book. Little Leo was so cute ☺️. I will be reading other books by this author again.

Nicholas and Anna

Wonderful story of second chances
Anna and Nicholas never stopped living each other after 5 years of separation due to outside influence
But love wins out in the heartfelt story
Live Viva writing and this one will warm your heart especially with Leo

Meh

This was promising. I don’t know what the author’s personal goals are so this book could have met that goal for her. But this was more of a plot than a story. The character development and plot points needed some work. You can push through if you skip a few pages here and there.

Perfect love story with a little bit of drama but not too much. I'm so glad Anna & Nicholas found each other again. Leo is the cutest little boy and they all deserved a happy ending.

Cute! Love Anna and Nicholas and Leo

I loved this! This storyline was cute and very different, not often I encounter our leading male having a career in fashion! I love that! And I won’t spoil the story but I love his growth in the story!

Great comeback

I really enjoyed this second chance romance. It made me really care about these characters and their journey. Would've like to read about Nicholas in the delivery room watching his 2nd baby come into the world & maybe his Mom coming around to meet her grands.

Great Storyline

I loved the story. It's so rare to read a story that depicts unwavering love over time. I do wish I had more visuals of the characters, other than the BLUE eyes and curls.
Either way, I will be reading the next in the series.

This was a truly wonderful but different type

of Romance story. I hoped that a family unit has their own specialty. This love storyline has many special occasions that shows their ability to love. I loved this one and the wonderful treats that can be awaiting for them.

This was pretty good!!!

I don’t know what I thought going into this book but it was most definitely sweet. When they say misery loves company, they never lied about that. Prejudice is always an ugly look on people. The HEA was sweet and justice was served.

Not a good book juvenile writing I felt Anna was weak, especially she had no type of fire. In my opinion. The reason why she was a single mother didn’t make no sense. The whole book was trash this whole genre. It’s trash will never be reading another book like this again.

Ummm

This story has gaps that leave you wondering did you miss something. Nicholas apologizes to Anna for his mother offering her money to leave but nowhere in the book does it mention she told him. Also nothing about the legal proceedings and what actually happened to the mother

Beautiful story of true love. The pitfalls of malicious prejudices and spite of the so-called privilege powerful elites. Integrity, truth, respect and love for self and others still remain intact.

Amazing

This story was heartfelt and inspiring. The farcical nature of his love for his family tugged at my heartstrings.

Didn't find anything wrong. Would have loved to see his mom and Charlotte punished more. The daughter too.
