Book

The Great Glacier Getaway is a rollicking road trip comedy about the Thompson family—Earl, Darlene, Bubba, and Tammy—embarking on a chaotic adventure from Michigan to Glacier Park in Montana. Led by Earl’s love for adventure (and bad puns), the family sets out in their trusty but beat-up Chevy Suburban, “Ol’ Betsy,” ready to “rough it” despite not knowing how to properly plan the trip. Packed to the brim with camping gear, snacks, and a lot of quirks, their journey is anything but smooth.

From the start, chaos ensues as Earl's old-school methods, like relying on a tattered 1998 road atlas, clash with Darlene’s need for a more organized trip, and Bubba’s mischievous pranks, including a whoopee cushion under Mom’s seat, never stop. Things escalate when the family gets into a prank-fueled race with a strange RV, which they dub “Eddie’s Revenge,” creating a series of hilarious moments—from a toll booth standoff in Ohio to an epic food fight at a Denny’s in Illinois.

Through each ridiculous stop, the Thompsons navigate mishaps with strangers, camping disasters, pranks gone wrong, and the occasional family meltdown, all while Tammy secretly enjoys the chaos despite her dramatic complaints. They take on crazy challenges, from evading RV battles to surviving a questionable diner meal, all while Earl insists they push forward to their destination in the name of family bonding.

The story is full of humor, heart, and high jinks, capturing the essence of family road trips and the hilarity of traveling with those who love you, even if they drive you crazy. Each chapter brings a new set of disasters, with plenty of laughs, pranks, and chaotic family moments as the Thompsons inch closer to their wild Glacier Park.

This comedic adventure showcases how the family’s mishaps ultimately bring them closer together, reminding readers that the best memories are often made during the most unexpected, hilarious moments.
