Rate this book

Eight literary pieces give introductory and intermediate students the opportunity to read short stories, excerpts from novels, and a play, by the noted Russian authors Lermontov, Pushkin, and Turgenev. All selections have been carefully adapted to retain the flavor of the originals and are organized in order of increasing difficulty in terms of grammar and vocabulary loads. Exercises to check comprehension and reinforce key structures are also provided.

This book takes Russian literature and scales it down to a learner's level. Each of the five stories gets progressively more difficult, so you build upon what you've learned. Stories from Lermontov, Pushkin, and Turgenev are included. A good addition to a Russian language learner's arsenal.

It's a very good idea, but introduces new vocabulary at too great a pace.
