Joey Jones dreams of making the school football team. He's a disaster on the pitch with huge feet and no proper boots. But Joey and his big boots are the team's only hope.
Clumsy Joey Jones dreams of playing football for the school. He eventually has his dream come true, but then finds that his feet are too big and doesn’t own a pair of decent football boots for the pitch. He longs to buy the ones he sees in the shop window. Perhaps his parents will buy them for him as a present at Christmas time. His hopes soon become shattered, when his dad presents Joey with an enormous pair of old football boots that used to belong to his Dad. Joey accepts the football boots regardless, and shows the school and his team what he’s made of. It soon shows that it was Joey feet and enormous boots that save the day. I thought this was a great book to read that showed a great deal of courage and determination. Joey had one goal and he was going to work hard to get there. The boys at his school laughed at him and always made fun of him but he didn’t let this drag him down. He still pursued his dream and practised every night to make sure he can be the best he can be. I think book would be a good book used for group discussion, perhaps during guided reading or during PSHE. The book discusses bullying, courage, aspirations and determination. I think that this book would appeal to children in lower KS2. The book also has an activity page at the beginning. This could be used at home during parent/child reading time.

This isn’t my usual sort of book as you will probably notice from my reading post that go up onto Goodreads. I have a seven-year-old nephew called Joseph and this was part of his reading homework that I got the chance to do with him in the last week and for a seven-year-old he did Enjoy the book Even with his short attention span. As an adult I thought the book was very good for him in the way it was written , the illustrations inside it , Though I did find the writing A little bit erratic because of the different styles of lettering used.
Joey Jones was a laugh and a boy disaster zone. Once, when he played the football, he made a big mistake, it caused his friends laughing so he practiced every afternoon, when the second match was coming, he made a perfect progress and goal! So he gained the respect from his friends.
