Why Am I Like This!?: ADHD and Perimenopause - The Handbook

Rate this book
You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re not going mad.

You’re a 40 something woman navigating the hormonal rollercoaster of perimenopause and the lifelong wiring of ADHD—probably without ever being told how the two collide. Until now.

Why Am I Like This?! is the science-backed, laugh-through-the-tears guide you didn’t know you needed. Written by a yoga teacher, mindset coach and midlife woman with lived experience, this book gently unpacks what happens when declining oestrogen and a dopamine-deficient brain join forces - and why everything suddenly feels harder than it used to.

Inside, you’ll
- The missing link between ADHD and perimenopause
- Why the “simple” things feel impossible
- The shame spiral decoded, and how to get out of it
- Gentle, actionable strategies (no 5am miracle routines here)
- And the relief of finally understanding you’re not alone.

Whether you’ve been diagnosed recently, always suspected something was up, or just feel like you’re permanently treading water, this book will help you feel seen, supported, and a whole lot less feral.

Because your life isn’t falling apart.
You’re just starting to understand your brain.

My sister sent me this in the post* to get me to read it first to see if it was worth her reading it (because her ADHD is worse than mine). I said a wholehearted yes, do read it. It's short and to the point. Most ADHD books lose me within half a chapter droning on about irrelevant shit. This cuts to the chase. I read it in an hour. I'm a problem solver so had put a lot of the suggestions in practice already but my sister hasn't and needs to. Do read it if you have ADHD and need some suggestions on practical ways to improve the chaos. (*she of course didnt warn me she was sending me the book and I thought a friend had sent it to me because they think I'm so annoying and I cried. I was so offended even though I know I'm annoying. so I was very relieved when she mentioned it a week later as that stopped me from wondering who the Judas was, and yes I have RSD as part of the ADHD) . is there a book that helps with being less annoying out there? probably not. My current strategy is to just stay away from people full stop. gah.

Consider this my formal 'I told you so' to every doctor who didn't listen. A total life-changer for anyone currently being kicked in the teeth by perimenopause. Read it, give it to your family, and stop wondering if you're losing your mind—you’re not, you just needed this book. It turns out I’m not 'dramatic,' I’m just going through cougar puberty! 📢🐆"
