Episode Two

From the moment she entered his car, Sam knew she’d lost control of the situation. With Arles's keen talent for blackmail, escape isn't an option. To make matters worse, when his odd family drops in unannounced, Sam begins to realize that Arles isn’t just an obsessive jerk, but might also be a human trafficker who deals in the acquisition and sale of children.

Arles’s uncle Vincent and his lapdog Zakai couldn’t have picked a worse time to drop in demanding favors. What was supposed to be some casual backup in dealing with Sam’s sleazy father has become a full-on side mission that the team is determined to drag him into. Any other time he’d be thrilled—well, okay, not exactly thrilled—to help Vincent and the team with their “hero” hobby, but Sam is already suspicious, and with one false move, he could lose her forever.

Look Back in Anger Series Synopsis

Sam can't remember much of being a child, but the scraps of memory she clings to all hold the same terror--Arles Colfter. Now he's blackmailing her, threatening her elderly father, and forcing her to face a past long buried. Plus she's pretty sure he's a baby-eating werewolf.

In this urban fantasy novel, all SynthPet technician Samantha wants is to live quietly with her herd of cats and one-eared dog, but when Arles kidnaps her, she’s forced to unravel a thorny tangle of truth and lies, or risk being dragged down the rabbit hole into Arles's world of intrigue, gun-toting vigilantes, and...zombies.

***I received this as an ARC for an honest review***

This one was much stronger than the first episode, and we got more insight of the characters. I just don't know if I'm team Arles yet. We still don't know a lot about him and why he is REALLY doing this to Sam. If it's out of love or hate. I want to like Arles, but I'm still not sure. I don't understand why he has to be such an ass to Sam. He should just explain to Sam what happened in their past. There are to many unanswered questions to not want to pick up the third episode.

Episode Two does not disappoint. Getting more and more drawn into the plot and the characters. Already have a sense of plot twists and turns from the beginning - have to know how they resolve themselves. Can't wait for more, more, more from S. N. Graves!

I was so happy to get into this after the first one enchanted me. It delivered. The deepening characters, plot, and world building made me enjoy the entire experience.
