Inheriting a Secret

Rate this book
A woman who made a promise and has no intention of breaking it…

Darcy was trained to be a cat burglar and con artist from a young age. On his deathbed, her father elicited a promise from her that she’s always kept, despite the danger it’s exposed her to. As a current member of the Society, she’s assigned to a mission that brings her face to face with the one man who tests her will…and her honor.

A prince who will stop at nothing to fulfill a promise he made...

Brayden is set to ascend the throne of his small country, but he can’t do that without the jewels Darcy stole from his family ten years ago. He sets out to break her, but the best laid plans are sometimes destined to fail. Can he put aside his promise to his father and his country in order to follow his heart, or will duty come before love?

Honor will be tested, and inherited duty may have to be challenged if they have any hope of overcoming the SECRET that could change everything.

Crystal Perkins has always been a big reader, but she never thought she would write her own book, until she sat down in 2014 and did it. She's now published over 40 books, and has been featured in several anthologies as well.

She lived in Las Vegas for over a decade, where you could find her running author events and winning bookseller awards. She's was recently living in North Dakota to be closer to her family, but she is back in Vegas. When she's not reading a few hundred books a year or chasing after her grandson, you can find her watching hockey (Go Knights Go!) and trying to find the perfect shade of lipstick.

She loves Star Wars AND Star Trek, but if pushed to choose, it will always be Leia and her crew who come out on top. Her love of all things nerdy comes through in her book characters, no matter the genre. A mac and cheese connoisseur, she travels the world looking for the perfect version, while attending book conventions and signings as a cover for her research. Poutine research is also conducted regularly on her trips.

Her first series, The Griffin Brothers, followed four billionaire brothers, and the third book, Creating a Love, was a finalist for a multicultural award in 2014. Her second series, Corrigan & Co. featured a secret society of female spies in Las Vegas. She followed this with Society Girls, which offered a glimpse into the training of the women who are recruited into the Corrigan & Co. Foundation, and the Society. The Company Men series featured the relatives of her secret society of spies.
Activate is a Young Adult Sci-Fi standalone novel, and A Kiss Is Just a Kiss is a Romantic Comedy standalone book. If you like something darker, you can find her Horror short stories in the Never Fear anthologies!

She’s currently writing about modern day witches in her Burn series, and bridesmaids for hire who solve mysteries in The Maids! In 2020, she will also be starting a hockey novella series.

Crystal loves hearing from her readers, so please feel free to send her an email, Facebook message, or Tweet! She's also on Instagram, where you can see her monthly reads!

Crystal Perkins is one of the only authors that can shock me, and oh boy was I shocked!

Darcy takes her mission with The Society and has to play the part of pretend fiance to Prince Brayden James. Seems easy, until you add in her background with the royal family and what she stole from them ten years ago. Brayden planned on using Darcy to get back his families possessions, but he didn't plan on the attraction he had to his cat burglar. Secrets are revealed, attractions are fought, and love is won.

This was an amazing story and I'm really jealous that I can't be as kick ass as The Society women. I love how surprised I can be while reading this series and I never know what to expect. Darcy didn't grow up like most girls, instead of playing dress up she was learning cons from her father. She was pretty kick ass and I loved how resourceful she was.

I loved reading about the fight Darcy and Brayden were going through. They both had their reason why they couldn't be together but the connection between them was just too strong to ignore. Brayden was an ass at times but he more than made up for it. I laughed so much at the end of this book which was yet another thing I wasn't expecting, This book delivers it all, surprises, laughter, smiles, and heat.

Luv this series. Darcy is bad ass and just brilliant.

This book was brilliant. So much happened in I was a lil shocked in parts. I luv Darcy she is such a strong girl. She as gone through a lot since a lil girl but one thing that Darcy is it's loyal she. Once she says she will do something she will do it. I really liked this about her. I liked Brayden he's hot and very sexy. Him and Darcy r totally hot together. Things are not so easy for these two. There story is really good and I would highly recommend it. This author knows how to keep i on the edge with other characters. I m so looking forward to more from this series.

Epic grovel!
The story is really cool, it has action scenes and some hilarious scenes. The story of the other characters continues and we learn more about them. The author captures the reader's attention from beginning to end. The women of Society are united once more to overcome danger and defeat evil. I recommend.

“Why did the maître d’ look at me like that when you sat down?”
“I don’t know,” I lie.
“Brayden.”
“Fine. I’ve brought many women here before, but never once have I sat across from one.”
“Where do you usually sit? Next to her?”
“Yes. Or more accurately, half on top of her as I stick my tongue down her throat.”

==>MATT<==
“What about Darcy? She’s one of your best friends, too. Before you got married, and Nate got Jade, the four of you were inseparable. Or did you conveniently forget that? Or forget your wife?”
“I didn’t forget. My gram is family, though, and I owe her too much to stand against her.”

==>MATT<==
“Too bad. Choices, Matt, choices.”
“I can’t help you with Darcy. Just with this.”
“Understood. I don’t agree with it, but I know that if Reina isn’t enough to change your mind, nothing I saw will change it either. Now, let’s get this all worked out.”

“I’ll get her in,” Scott says, all of a sudden on the call with us. Damn these tech savvy people. And love them at the same time. “I got the notification that your access was revoked, so I thought I’d jump into this call.”
“Your mom will be pissed if she finds out.”
“I’m not worried. Just walk me through the plan.”

I walk through the unlocked doors at exactly seven to find a smiling Caleb and Ethan waiting for me. The guards at the desk are slumped over, and the elevator is open.
“Hi guys. Do I even want to know what happened?”
“Dad and I made them some brownies,” Ethan tells me.
“With a few extra ingredients in them,” Caleb adds with a wink.

==>MATT<==
“I’ll understand if you need to side with her, Matt,” Jane Corrigan tells him.
“Family comes first. Always. When it didn’t, you know what happened. She’ll get over it.”

“We’re not going back without you,” Reina says, entering the room.
“What are you doing here, Rei?”
“I can’t be around Matt right now. His family loyalty bullshit is making me want to punch him. Hard.”

==>MATT<==
“You should’ve told me, Gram. I could’ve been helping Rei and the girls,” Matt says, looking pained.
“I gave you permission to stand against me.”
“I couldn’t do that. You’re my family.”
“So is Reina, and your other friends. They’re family, too, or at least I thought you felt that way. I fully expected you to stand with your wife.”
“You were obviously wrong,” Reina says...

==>DATING OW<==
“Welcome,” I say with a smile I’m not feeling, as the door opens.
The woman who walks through the door is exactly what I was expecting, and everything my heart doesn’t want. She has long, straight black hair and is dressed to within an inch of her life. She screams “money” and “designer” and I want to run.
“Hello, Brayden,” she says, batting her eyes. Honestly, she just batted her eyes at me.
Jen rolls her eyes at me, and I have to fight the urge to laugh. I hold my arm out to her, because it’s expected, and she grips it like it’s her lifeline. I flinch a little, and then smile when I see the hurt cross her face. Why did I think this was a good idea? Oh right, because I have to marry someone like her.

==>DATING OW<==
“Why are you even doing this?”
“Because I need a proper, royal wife.”

“I never wanted to be a king who fought for change.”
“So what, you’ll just be reformed playboy prince who takes the throne and does nothing?”

I’ve gone on dates with seven princesses in seven days. My coronation is in two days, and I haven’t made a choice yet. My mother’s been pressuring me to choose, while Jen and my uncle tell me what an idiot I am.

I had hoped I’d choose her, too. But I didn’t, and now we both have to live with my choice.

==>MATT AND REINA<==
“Can you please just try to not have cheating on me be your go to threat? It’s getting a little hard to take since you use it every time we fight.”
He looks stunned for a moment, and then ashamed. “Yeah. You’re right. Shit. I don’t even realize it half the time. I just don’t know what else I have that you could possibly want.”

Wow, this book took you so many places I don't really know where to begin. I mean, we all want to find the prince, but Darcy actually gets to "pretend" to be with one for a mission. Then everything you never thought would happen with the Society DOES. I mean I really, really didn't expect these particular twists. I must say this was my favorite so far. Hurry up and write #8, you're killing us!!
And I literally read this book in about 6 hours cause I could NOT go to sleep until I finished it. If you don't want to be upset, don't read the teaser for the next book...just saying, fair warning.

I really enjoyed this book. The main characters, Braydon and Darcy are phenomenal. I think they compliment each other perfectly. Totally loved the ending with the list and laughed out loud several times while reading.

The secret which between Braydon and Darcy was a long standing one which involved many people. When it came to light I was worried that it would have a negative impact on several people. Some people's choices definitely created a negative impact which only makes me want to read Matt and Reina's book even more.

I totally love this series and can't wait to read the next one.

Darcy and Brayden were the perfect compliment to the other! Man, she didn't take any carp from him. I laughed out loud several times while reading. Just funny. The secret between them....well, I thought it would wreck them and several others that were so closely involved! Some things have to be kept secret, sure there is a benefit. But where do you draw the line? At what cost do you keep a secret? Almost too much at stake this time? LT
