Rate this book
The one man who can save Cadence may also be the one to destroy her.

Shadows cloak Cadence’s every move, but only she can see the swirling darkness and the encroaching shadows threaten more than just her vision. Sinister and evil creatures stalk her from beyond her sight, eager to claim a power hidden within her that she does not yet understand.

But the shadows clear within the presence of her new boss, the dangerously sexy Draven Crane. Draven’s strength comforts Cadence, but his secrets might prove to be just as dangerous as the evils that threaten her.

Draven promises he’ll protect her from the darkness, but Cadence fears trusting the mysterious man. If taken, Cadence will be devoured by evil. If Draven saves her, her life may very well be in the hands of a demon.

I received a copy of the eBook from Goodreads Lovers of Paranormal group in exchange for an honest review.

Cadence has been plagued by shadows that have been haunting her for as long as she can remember. She has been abandoned by her family and has left college because of the ever-present shadows. Is she gifted or cursed?

Draven Crane is a lawyer and Cadence’s boss with a most unusual clientele. Is she safe with him?

The Demon’s Song is a fast paced and a quick read novella. The author reveals Cadence’s character via her voice and actions—gentle and insecure. She does not appear to be comfortable in her own skin. Draven’s personality is larger than life. He is a force of nature—confident and powerful. Does he have the good will to protect Cadence?

Cadence and Draven’s journey should not be over. There are many unanswered questions. Helena Shaw should consider a sequel to The Demon’s Song.

I loved this story. Half way through the book I was worried it was to short, but it was perfect. I loved Crane. Candace was perfectly described. Just an everyday girl you could relate to, minus the shadows. I would recommend this book to anyone really. It does have a bedroom moment. So maybe age appropriate, but not to harsh. Its a short and smooth read. I will be looking out for this author for now on. I definitely want to read more. Happy reading.

My Thoughts

I love this cover so much! I was immediately drawn into it because the man on the cover is playing the Cello. I love the Cello and have been playing 7 years! Besides that the summary was really interesting and I wanted to read and find out what happened.

When I picked up a copy of The Demon’s Song I didn’t know it was so short. I’d say less than 100 pages. On Goodreads it didn’t say so I was unaware. With that being said a lot was packed into this book. With me I always want more when it comes to short books. I felt like it was just getting really good and interesting when it ended. This work could/would be a very interesting series or extended work. It left me wanting more and to see how Cadence and Draven explore their relationship.

I typically prefer my female leads to be stronger than Cadence but I could see where she was coming from. Her family has disowned her as well she feels like a freak because she has been seeing shadows since she was young. She made some strange choices at least for me I wouldn’t of put myself in the situations she did but I see where she was coming from. I would of loved to see her gift/powers play a bigger part. Why is everyone after it and what can she do now with Draven’s help.

I think Draven was my favorite of the characters. Not a shocker I almost always pick the love interest. Draven was so mysterious and intriguing that I just wanted more and more of him. He explained his world really well and its one I would love to delve into further. Oh and he’s a musician too!!! I don’t think he can get anymore perfect!

This was a really good and interesting. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a paranormal romance story as well as if you are looking for something quick and entertaining.

I was looking forward to reading this book. The story looked like it would be something I'd really enjoy reading but I found it to be disappointing overall.

I did like a few aspects of the book, the idea of human with special abilities that demons want and a woman who thinks she's going crazy because of the shadows that only she can see.

I felt that the book was too shallow? Not sure how to explain it but it didn't delve deeper into the character or the story. It's a nice short story, I wouldn't call it a novel or even a novella. We aren't told what kind of special powers she has or what she can do with it. All we know is that she's rare, she's powerful and she can see with her soul. Draven calls her a seer but I nothing of a seer-like power from her. All we read is her seeing demons in their true forms. Can she see the future? past? Predict anything? What can she do!?

Since the book was so short the story was very rushed, everything happened to her quickly, she dealt with her shadows very casually? I see that she gets scared but more of like the "jump scares" or "that's really creepy" type of scares rather than "I'm going crazy and I think I need to put myself into a psych ward". If she is normal like she thinks she is (especially since she's from a well off family, probably very sheltered) she should be going through a mental breakdown.

I couldn't believe in the characters and I wanted more out of the story.

Although I did give this book 2 stars I did like the actual plot of the story, I just sadly felt that it wasn't executed as well as it should have been. The main character Candace seems very interesting and although the book was short you learn many things about her and it was an interesting read, however I felt that at times the story missed crucial elements and jumped. For instance I did not like the "scene" between Candace and Draven . I think that the author could have maybe tried to make this feel more effortless and not out of place. Also, I didn't like the relationship between Jane and Candace as I felt that she just used Jane

Having said all this, I still really enjoyed reading this as I found that it was different and imaginative. With a couple of tweaks it could be a re-read :)

I really enjoyed this short novella.

Cadence is a young girl troubled with strange shadows. After asking for professional help and finds none and her parents cut her off she turns to her best friend Jane.
Jane is her saviour, she gives her a place to stay and helps her find a job in which she meets her new boss, Draven Crane, a very mysterious man
Draven seems to have taken an interest in Cadence by offering her a prime position in the firm, and for some reason the shadows have lessened as she continues to work for him, and as they get closer she discovers he is a demon who what's to protect her from other evil demons who are trying to devour her for her powers.

I liked Cadence and her strengths. She was a little lost at times and a little to reliant on others, but she did make the move for a career and a new life. Draven was a very commanding character, he was very protective of Cadence, and very gentle.
I was a little confused as to the nature of her powers and would have liked a bit more information there.

This was a very short read, but I think it has lots of potential for a full length book as a sequel, and to see what is install for Cadence and Draven.

This is the story of Cadence, a young woman who has been seeing shadows all her life and chalks it up to mental illness. After dropping out her college and he parents cutting her off, she moves away and gets a job working for a demon, Draven Crane. I love that a demon is a lawyer. The story was really interesting and I can look past the few typo, I really wish the story was longer, but with the limitations, I still feel that a lot was covered. I do wish we could have gotten more background on Cadence's ability and the manifestation of it.
