A billionaire is dead. His body hasn't even gone cold before the vultures start circling.
What unfolds is a Jason Drake novel unlike any other.
The Assassin's Shadow is the ninth explosive entry in the Jason Drake series. If you think the first eight books were fast, you haven't seen anything yet.
Auston King is the author name for an ex-intelligence officer who prefers to keep his anonymity about him. He's an avid reader, who has consumed every Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn and Robert Ludlum book he could get his hands on and he wants to share stories that entertain, provoke, and leave you wanting more.
So I had no clue this book was the conclusion of the Jason Drake series but the happy "ending" was self-explanatory.
Jason (now with a young daughter to look after) is in Puerto Rico, in a small trailer in the outskirts of San Juan, contemplating how to make a living all while evading the CIA (he's persona non grata ). Suddenly, his friend Colt from England's SAS comes asking for help in finding a young man accused of killing a famous billionaire in Italy. Jason reluctantly agrees on the condition that his banishment is wiped out and he & his daughter can live peacefully in the future.
It's one last operation with Colt, reuniting with CIA analyst Sierra and living happily ever after (such a cliche). Somehow, although there was action, Jason didn't seem as lethal until the end. The storyline is Epstein-esque with blackmail files, porn, underage girls etc.
The book felt rushed and a weak attempt to wrap up the Jason Drake series. I gave an extra star because I did like the ending…who doesn’t like a happy ending. If this was the last book, there should’ve been a lot more action and intrigue. The plot being similar to Epstein affair could’ve really gone a lot of different directions before the end. Overall I was disappointed.
The conclusion of this serie was well written, well constructed. A page turner! I really enjoyed it. Thank you Austin King for telling us about Jason Drake.
