I was looking for a book on silverware related to common household items, particularly because I wanted to understand more about the use of silver in late 19th to early 20th century pencil and fountain pen wares. This is a good book on silver, but with minimal information on pencils (page 208) and none on fountain pens. Still good looking and fun to read.
I found the first quarter of the book the most interesting, because it discusses the history of (Western, say largely European) silver and how to look at silver-based pieces. Good, succint information.
The next 175 pages cover various kinds of objects and their specialty terms. There's information about early European silver, church and service wares, drinking and table utensils, the tea stuff you never realized you needed (unless you're British), various household fixtures, and decorative and novelty items. Again good material.
Last, there's a glossary and a bit on silver marks. This material is ok, but too brief - so look for other sources if your interest is beyond cursory.
