Night after night a strange apparition appears at Kristin's bedside. Is it dangerous? Is the dancing spirit trying to send her a message?
When Xander and Yzzie discover that their friend is being haunted, the seventh graders make it their number one priority to solve the mystery of Kristin's ghost.
Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, I married my high school sweetheart, Marlene. Ten years later we had our Daughter Jackie. We moved to the USA for twenty years, recently returned home to Canada. Marlene and I now live in the beautiful Okanagan valley. If I'm not reading or writing action adventures, I am probably hiking, biking or playing tennis. Some of my favorite authors include: Thomas Perry, Robert Ludlum, Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, Harlan Coben, Orson Scott Card, and many others.
After the adventures in Monsters and Miracles, I looked forward to reading the sequel, Kristin’s Ghost. The book certainly didn’t dissapoint. If anything, I loved it even more than the previous book in the series. Xander and Yzzie are back for more fun and mayhem, and this time they’ve been teamed up with Yzzie’s friend, Kristin, who gets visited every night by a ghost she’s named Cassandra. Kristin is reluctant to share her story, but when she hears Xander has been bullied before because he believed he saw an UFO, she’s more willing to open up. Kristin tells them about her ghostly visitor, who appears at the exact same time every nine, twenty minutes past one.
Kristin used to be afraid of the ghost, but she’s not anymore, she’s gotten used to it. If anything, she wants to find out who Cassandra is, and why she’s haunting her. Xander, Yzzie and Kristin team up to find out the truth about the ghost. I felt a connection to all of the characters right away – Xander and Yzzie because I got to know them in the previous book, and Kristin because the book starts out by introducing her to the reader, and makes it easy to establish a connection with her.
All the characters were well-rounded and intriguing enough to keep middle graders (and even adults) entertained. The writing was great, as in the previous book, and overall the story held a few surprising twists, and was fast-paced and engaging.
5 Fangs Independent Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. Xander recently moved to Sedona, Arizona. He was living with his Aunt and Uncle and cousins until his parents bought a house out there. They were moving because Xander was being bullied at his school in Denver for saying he saw an UFO. His cousin Yzzie is in the same grade as him. She started introducing him to people. He takes an interest in her friend Kristin and asks Yzzie about her. Yzzie sets it up so they can meet. After Kristin finds out about him having seen an UFO she feels comfortable telling them about a ghost who she thinks name is Cassandra. The ghost has been visiting her at night around one twenty. So the three of them decide to try and figure out who Cassandra is and what she wants. This is a cute book. Not scary at all. The writing is good and the characters are well writing. I can't say anything bad about any of the characters I liked them all. This book had the mystery in it to keep you moving along to find out who Cassandra was and what she wants. I like how the writer also incorporated science into the book to teach. It made the book very interesting. I felt the dialogue was pretty accurate for kids there age. I would recommend this book for young teens who enjoy a mystery. I will be looking for some of Wayne Kerr's other works to give to niece's and nephew's as presents.
Great book! I enjoyed reading this little tale. The way xander and yzzie used their brains to solve the case was awesome. And when they found out the truth...wow! I would recommend this book to any middle grader!!
Kristin’s ghost the X + Y files I won this book here on goodreads.com on February 7th of 2015 sorry it took me so long to get to reading. I really enjoyed reading this book even though I have not read the first book in the series yet and plan on both going back to read it as well as continuing to read the books as they come out. I really enjoyed having the puzzles for each chapter title it was a lot of fun, and I also liked the process that Xander, Yzzie, and Kristin went through trying to figure out who the ghost was and how they weren't ever really discouraged. The scientific method that they went through to find out what was going on was fun and comical. Then there’s always the end and I have to say that was brilliantly handled. The only things that bugged me about this book were that the uncle ended up having three different names throughout the book, Xander and Yzzie’s names were interchanged a few times and finally it helps when reading if all the words are there. Thankfully on the top of page 197 it was obvious as to what it was but still.
Young middle grade readers will identify with some of the common concerns in the novel. They include bullying, young romance and friendship. A mysterious ghost appears every evening and Kristin is puzzled. With the help of her friends Xander and Yzzie, the story of Kristin’s ghost is uncovered.
I love the inclusion of the Ouija board in the story and how it’s used to help them.
There is enough suspense to keep the reader engaged. Overall, the story is well written and suits the target audience.
