Duke n' Matt: Rescue Road Warriors
Duke is a sweet, friendly, red beagle. He was rescued and adopted by his human, Matt, in 2009. Now they are a team! They are RESCUE ROAD WARRIORS! Every month, along with many other rescue volunteers, Duke and Matt jump in their "Beaglemobile" and drive their canine "passengers" to safe shelters, foster homes, and new adoptive families. Kids will meet Duke and Matt, learn what it's like to be a Rescue Road Warrior, and find out why these volunteers help rescue dogs, puppies, and sometimes other animals. Duke wants kids to learn about pets and rescue animals, so he's included eight special "Learn More" and "Fun Stuff" pages. All the photographs are actual pictures of rescue dogs, many that Duke and Matt helped to rescue and transport. Summary- Duke, a cute and friendly red beagle, tells the story of how he and his adopted human, Matt, help other animals by driving them all around the United States to be with their new families. Duke and Matt have been together since 2009. They rescue dogs from puppy mills, shelters and dogs that the owners can’t take care of anymore. This story tells kids how Duke and Matt work with many other volunteers to transport dogs to safe places.
What I Thought- This is a wonderful nonfiction story. It really makes you smile – partly because of the cute pictures of dogs in it, but also because of the happy story. It does mention puppy mills, but describes them in a kid-friendly way (the mommy dogs only have puppies, and they can’t leave their crates) – some of the dogs are not cared for correctly etc. Mrs. Paglia wrote a great story that informs you in a simple way about dog rescue, told from the point of view of Duke the beagle. The story covers a part of animal rescue that a lot of kids (and maybe some adults) don’t know about – how dogs are matched with adoptive or foster families, sometimes way across the country, and how the dogs get to their new families. There is a ton of resources in the back of the book that covers everything from what rescues are to definitions of terms to the geography of the United States! This is an uplifting, informative book that both adults and kids can enjoy.

Five glowing stars for "Duke n' Matt: Rescue Road Warriors," written by author Rhonda Paglia!
A detailed look at what goes into rescuing an animal in need. Duke and Matt venture out on the road to rescue dogs of all breeds. These dogs have been in puppy mills, homes which the owners were not able to care for them, and many more circumstances.
Duke is the greeter, that welcomes the dogs feel wanted and safe.
This book would be a great story for classrooms! It's filled with many pages of learning with informational content in the back of the book.
Readers will love the sweet pictures on every page.

Duke 'n' Matt My Heroes
I thought this book was great.Nice touch with Duke telling the story. It breaks my heart to hear or read about puppy mills. How can you look into the eyes of a dog and not fall in love? The unconditional love I get from my dogs is indescribable. My Goldendoodle Harley is my best friend, a great listener, the only one who can truly consol me and a one of a kind dog.I was glad to read that there are so many volunteers to help these loving animals. I would recommend this book to all my animal lover friends. Thank you for such a heart warming story.

Very cute little book that explains what we do in the rescue world when it comes to transport and relocation for adoption.
Well done and great pictures.
It was about a 20 minute read as the book is geared to a young audience, but I loved it.

Love this story of Duke and Matt!!!
Like Matt and Duke, I drove rescue dogs, for almost 11 years. Then I was in an accident (no dogs involved!), had back surgery, and that was the end of my driving days. Now I monitor dog transports every weekend -- and keep all the drivers updated during the course of the transport. I love doing this, but really miss seeing the dogs every weekend. 😥 I hope all of you who read this book, appreciate what all these drivers do to save all these dogs from a fate worse than death. Godspeed to all of you out there, who are driving and saving all these dogs. Many thanks!!! 💕

"Duke 'n' Matt, Rescue Road Warriors" is a nonfiction, educational book for kids and families.
Duke, a red beagle, was adopted by Matt in 2009. Now Duke and Matt, along with about 900 other Rescue Road Warriors across the county, help transport puppy mill dogs, breeder releases, and dogs headed for euthanasia, to safe shelters and new adoptive families. This is their story.
This book is especially helpful for families considering buying or adopting a pet. The book also includes learning activities and pages. There is a section with special vocabulary and definitions, a map page, and a "look back in the book" page. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Rescue Road Warriors and their work. More information about the Rescue Road Warriors is available on the author's website: www.rhondapagliaauthor.com.
