Return to Ashes: Cassie Quinn, Book 8

Rate this book
When the past refuses to stay buried, Cassie Quinn is forced to confront her darkest fears.

Still bearing the scars—both physical and emotional—from a brutal attack that nearly claimed her life, Cassie Quinn has learned to hide her pain behind a mask of resilience. But when a desperate call from Apex Publicity forces her to leave the safety of Savannah for the bustling streets of Nashville, Cassie realizes that some wounds never truly heal.

Blackmailed into working for the powerful Apex Publicity firm, Cassie must navigate a maze of lies and danger. At the heart of her new assignment is the disappearance of Millie Abrahms, a case that has haunted Apex's resident medium, Don Carver, to the brink of madness. With the dark presence that clings to Don now threatening to consume Cassie as well, she must use her unique abilities to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

Reunited with FBI Agent Chris Viotto, Cassie finds herself delving deeper into a conspiracy that spans from the highest levels of power to the shadows lurking in her own soul. As she uncovers the dangerous forces at play, Cassie must decide how far she's willing to go to protect those she loves—even if it means sacrificing herself.

Full of suspense, dark twists, and a touch of the supernatural, Return to Ashes will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final tick. Will Cassie Quinn rise from the ashes of her past, or will she be consumed by the darkness that threatens to engulf her?

Welcome back Lee!

After the Biden debate-worthy Jack Noble installment, it was nice to see some skilled writing and plot development again! Other than the never-ending bouts of teeth grinding the verbiage remained in character and successfully advanced the story line. Some sections were clearly created to expand the page numbers, and the rationale behind some of the investigative sequences, the story hung together well. There were instances of Cassie acting irrationally, but as they say in the trade, that's how drama is created. The Perils of Pauline ending is frustrating, but understandable when viewed from a book sales perspective. The characters were three-dimensional and fleshed out making them engaging throughout the entire book. Really missed more action with Bear and his feline chum, but perhaps they'll have better parts in the next chapter of this continuing saga. All in all, this was a nice return to Lee's standards. Keep it up!

Wow!

If you are a Cassie Quinn fan you will be glued to this book til you finish it!! I love this series, and this one has an ending you will definitely not be expecting, trust me. Cassie is an amazingly strong character with unique abilities that make you glad she's on the side of good and all that goes with helping people. I can almost never put these books down once I start one. My only regret now is having to wait until June for the next installment for this series - that seems way too far off to find out what happens next.

Return to Ashes

APEX blackmailed Cassie into doing a case for them, she solved it but they felt she was to close in figuring everything out so they sent Chris to kill her. He did shoot her but he was shot and killed by another. She's now listed as deceased but is recovering in a private clinic.

SO GOOD!

I have been waiting for this book and finally it’s here. It was excellent! Cassie is working at Apex and trying to take them down, while trying to solve a case with a ghost that attaches itself to people. The fast pace kept me turning pages and unable to put it down! I can’t wait for the next book!!

Didn’t See That Coming

Wow! This is the Cassie Quinn book we’ve come to love. Great plot, great pace, and… plenty of Cassie’s “gift” on display and put to use. Didn’t see the ending coming, at all; and not sure how I feel about its ramifications, but … damn sure can’t wait for the next book!!

Edge of seat seven star. Cassie is blackmailed to help Apex solve a murder

Cassie is being blackmailed. Apex has fixed a tape of Jason killing someone. They will release it unless she helps find what happened to Millie and on the side what happened to her sister Maxine. It involves a governor and several other big whigs and could change the face of America.

I’m a gal who loves a mystery of the week as well as an overarching story. I am. But this was just exhausting. The “mystery of week” is unsatisfying and bogged down by the overarching mystery/story, which is a huge slog. The writing here is still top notch but this installment just wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as previous ones.

I look forward to putting Apex to bed and moving on.

These books are great, but ...

These books are very very good. However, the way each book ends with a cliffhanger makes it seem more like each book is simply a very long chapter. Were I not able to read one book right after the other, I would be extremely frustrated. As it is I still find it rather annoying.

Excellent as always!

A great story. I can't wait for the next one. Burn Apex to the ground! I hope Adelaide and Lorraine get on board. Gonna be fun reading how that nasty Anastasia goes down.

I Love These Books!

Hard to put down! So well written, with well developed characters and stories that move fast enough to keep them interesting. I don't know what I'll do when Cassie takes down Apex for good. I guess I will have to read more of their series'!

Best New Characters

Return to Ashes, book 8 of L.T. Ryan's Cassie Quinn series has the best new characters yet. This series gets deeper with each new book. Love the paranormals in the story. Can't wait to see how Apex finally fails.

Cassie is in trouble again

Apex Publicly is after Cassie to work for them. They play dirty to force her hand. She wants to tear down Apex and is finding it to be very difficult. This is a very intense story.

Politics, blech!

I hope this apex/ Anastasia storyline wraps up quickly. Also, Jason is less enjoyable every book. Its like Cassie is his whole life. I'm ready for a breakup!

Cassie Quinn doesn't again!

In typical fashion, Cassie becomes involved with strong spirits in the after life. Very few places where you'll be able to put this book down.
