Un très poétique retour aux sources. Des descriptions très éthérées, le style inimitable de Le Clezio. Il faut un peu s'accrocher pour suivre l'histoire de ma région quand on ne connaît initialement aucun nom et aucun lieu. Les photos apparaissent vraiment petites dans l'édition de poche, mais sont opportunément en couleur.

Le Clezio travels with his wife to the place of her roots: the desert, deep south of Marocco. Photographs of the area are part of the book. The language is as poetic as ever. There is a lot of obscure historic fact weaven through the evocations of desert nature, goat herds and pooring tea in simply furnitured rooms. This travel report is a declaration of love to his wife's origins, like his Chanson de Bretagne is to his own. But whilst the latter text contains many personally meaningful imagery, this text remains comparatively generic. The whole is however done with as much perceptiveness. The scope is sociological, not psychological; his writing keeps on broadening perspective until it reaches a universal expressiveness.

It's great to recognize elements from Désert, and to feel the link beetween what they see and Jemia's genealogy, but I was expecting more I guess
