Getting at client issues by focusing on the process of symptom formation rather than on the details of the problem.
In Process-Oriented Hypnosis, internationally recognized psychologist Michael D. Yapko provides clinicians with a new framework for utilizing hypnosis with clients. Yapko encourages clinicians to take a broader perspective, in which patterns rather than individual symptoms are the emphasis of therapy. He offers numerous insights into ways clinicians can home in on the process of how people come to suffer various types of emotional distress. Beyond these insights, Process-Oriented Hypnosis provides highly practical information and specific examples for integrating this innovative perspective into clinical work.
The key patterns of human experience are central to the first section of the book, providing a sound conceptual foundation and a wide range of examples. In the second section, Yapko provides 10 richly structured hypnosis session transcripts for clinicians to insightfully adapt to their clients' needs.
Process-Oriented Hypnosis offers clinicians a fresh perspective for working with clients that can be integrated into many different treatment models.
I’ve read a few of the authors books and I like how this book is laid out. It’s easy to learn when each chapter starts with a example and story of a client. I think it’s empowering to have example sessions. I’d recommend any hypnotist read this book because it is filled with valuable ideas that you can use and expand on so your client achieves long lasting success. This book emphasizes how we all can have similar problems and it’s a matter of how we do the problem. We have resources and strengths we will use to create a future we are in control of.
Really interesting, clear and detailled. I really liked how thorough Yapko was in explaining the thought process and mental path the therapist must take to zero in on the main issue, and then the themes for the hypnosis session and some scripts examples where he works those in. Super helpful and thought provoking.
