When Let in the Light: 50 Devotions to Confidently Know God is Good and Guiding Your Steps came to my email as an opportunity to review it, I jumped on it. I love Proverbs 31 Ministries, and I knew if they put the book out, it would be good. Plus, in a world that often feels dark, who doesn't want more light?
The book is a beautiful hardbound copy with gold lettering. It has a sewn-in ribbon to help keep track of your progress. The inside of the book carries the colors of the cover throughout the book. The chapter numbers are blue with the headings in gold. There are also beautiful illustrations throughout the book. I love books that are not just black and white; they seem more special.
The book is broken into nine sections
God is Light
God Reveals Himself in Light
We Have Walked in Darkness
God's Blessings Shine
Darkness Will Not Last Forever
A New Dawn is Coming
Jesus Is the Light of the World
Children of Light, Called to Shine
Darkness is Defeated
Each section has five to six devotionals under that heading. They range from two to four pages each. The beginning of each devotional starts with a Scripture verse featuring "light." At the end of the devotional, there is a thought-provoking writing prompt, inviting you to take the study further.
I think this book is timely and needed. I have had a particularly hard year, and I need all the light and encouragement that I can get. It's nice to know that when we are in the dark seasons, we are not alone, and others have been there as well. It is also encouraging to see so many references to light.
Some favorite quotes:
Like the literal dark of this winter day, emotional or spiritual exhaustion can overtake us with the hard things we endure...Then we see it. Peeling back the dark...light has dawned.
Our heavenly father doesn't have a dark side. All sides of God are light.
His splendor is unequaled, never to be eclipsed by sin or sorrow or even death-yes, death-for in Jesus is a dawn, light and life coming from and through Him. All praise to God for the brightness He is and the brightness He brings.
No matter how dark things get for us, light always overcomes the darkness. Light brings revelation, and there is no greater revelation than God Himself.
I could go on and on, but I encourage you to grab a copy and read it for yourself.
Thank you to the publisher and Front Gate Media for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
