This book was given to me as a gift, so I felt obligated to read it. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
The author spent about 50% of this book describing how High Priests are so much better than everyone else in the church. He quotes D&C 107:64 on LITERALLY every page. This wasn't what bothered me most though. I know the office of High Priest is special and important, it was just the tone that the author took throughout the book that irritated me. He also interjected a lot of his own words into the quotes he used. I've never seen someone overuse brackets as much as this author. Also, I feel like he took quotes that were meant to discuss the Priesthood (as a whole) and applied them only to the office of High Priest. I believe I correctly grasped what his goal was in writing this book, and I agree that we all need to understand and appreciate this special Priesthood office more than we do... I just feel like it was not well executed.
It was also funny to be reading this book during the last General Conference when all of the changes were made to Priesthood quorums. I particularly like this quote from Elder Christofferson that I feel directly contradicts much of what this book says.
"Years ago, President Boyd K. Packer observed that “the priesthood is greater than any of its offices. … The priesthood is not divisible. An elder holds as much priesthood as an Apostle. (See D&C 20:38.) When a man [has the priesthood conferred upon him], he receives all of it. However, there are offices within the priesthood—divisions of authority and responsibility. … Sometimes one office is spoken of as being ‘higher than’ or ‘lower than’ another office. Rather than ‘higher’ or ‘lower,’ offices in the Melchizedek Priesthood represent different areas of service.” Brethren, I devoutly hope that we will no longer speak in terms of being “advanced” to another office in the Melchizedek Priesthood."
