Before I say anything, first I'd like you reading this review to know that this book is rich. Not rich-rich in the actual sense, but rich in content.

This book follows our plus-size MMC, Kingsley, who is battling with a generational curse. He has a spiritual power that could predict what's going to happen next in the course of a human life. Then follows our FMC, Adeola, a widowed single mother with a child confined to a wheelchair.

These two coming together was simply orchestrated by God. As far as faith-based romance is concerned in Nigerian literature, nobody does it badder than author Rosemary Okafor. She should please take her crown, unarguably.

My first reaction reading the first few pages of this book was, Nah! This would be a better Nollywood novel movie adaptation. It felt very cinematic. There were so many scenes that felt like I was watching a movie rather than reading. The plot and character development were really done well.

The central message for me this book passes is that God is God. He's encompassing and the best planner of all planners.

Kai! You'll love Kingsley and Adeola—that I'm very certain of😌

However, in my opinion, this book might be subjective because there were some parts written in heavy Yoruba language. If you are not conversant with the language, it can tend to lean towards overwhelming. Personally, I didn't have a problem with this, but it might be a struggle for someone who's not conversant with the language. And on the brighter side there are extra chapters for English translation of scenes heavy with the Yoruba language.

Shattered… and So Was I

I don’t even know how to put this into words, but Shattered broke me—in the most beautiful way. Kingsley and Adeola? They were made for each other. Like, God, the love was so deep, so pure. They didn’t just fall in love, they fit. Soul-level stuff.

I really felt for Adeola. The pain she carried? Whew. Losing a husband and one of her twins? That kind of grief is unspeakable. Yet she still had so much love to give. I love that Kingsley walked into her life just when she needed something soft, something whole, and somehow—him. It was perfect.

What really hit me was Kingsley’s growth. The man thought he was cursed, destined to hurt everyone around him, turns out he was the blessing all along. Watching him finally see that? Ugh. Tears. Real ones.

I’m also obsessed with how front-and-center faith is in this story. Both characters keep God right in the middle of their journey before they meet, after they collide, through every miracle and setback. They pray, they trust, they wait. Their relationship with God isn’t just background noise; it’s the heartbeat of the plot. And honestly? It gave me chills in the best way.

And the friendships? Chef’s kiss. Kingsley’s boys are ride-or-die without the toxic bravado, and Adeola’s banter with Pelumi is pure, joyous girl energy. No betrayals, no backstabs—just loyal, healthy bonds that remind you good friends exist and they will hype your happiness as hard as they hold your heartbreak.

There’s a line that branded itself on my heart:

“I asked the Lord for one thing and He gave me three: a lover who sets my soul on fire, a priest whose journey of faith is still on a pilgrimage, and a miracle that is the merging of faith and passion.”

Tell me that isn’t stunning.

This story felt like a hug and a heartbreak at the same time. I’m just glad I got to read it. No lies—Shattered will live rent-free in my head for a long, long time.

It's not everyday an author would come to the book space and write about a plus size man and a well written one at that... So, this book features a plus size man.

‎One thing that drew me to this book was the feature of Yoruba spiritualism. It's not everyday you see a book about Yoruba spiritualism.

‎This book revolves around Kingsley, a young man who is trying all his possible means to handle his supernatural abilities. Abandoned by his mother in an orphanage because she couldn't "handle" him but was later loved and cared for by Father Roy who taught him and loved him despite his spiritual packages. He was a spiritual father ...ma rosemary I cried oo 😭
‎To everyone, including his mother, he was a cursed child ...but in every curse there's a blessing.

‎Here comes Adeola , a widow whose husband's family won't allow her to breathe.. .I prefer calling her Dee, a sweet lady.
‎Their first meeting was epic!!!
‎I loved the tension in the book, it was deliciously cooked and served.
‎And the Yoruba wordings was sooo nice...with the ámì...and all...I was reading Yoruba fluently (or not so fluently 🌚) .

‎•Dual pov
‎•Plus sized male
‎•She falls first,he falls harder
‎• Paranormal
‎•Faith based
‎•Bastard son
‎•Church scandal
‎•Yoruba spirituality meets Christianity

‎One thing this book reflects was that God can use you for his works, irrespective of people, their thoughts about you and your problem, you just have to accept him.

‎If you were a wife to Michael in God, Micheal and me... I'm pretty sure you'll ditch him 😂😂...Guys... I'm officially team Kingsley. In Kingsley I stan. A man so sweet and intentional, built like a bear and soft like butter

Rating this a 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

This book was intense, emotional, and deeply spiritual. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into Kingsley’s tortured world—a man carrying the weight of a dark family curse, searching for peace, searching for his father, and caught between the spiritual and the physical.

Then came Adeola—a grieving widow who had shut herself off from the world. Their meeting wasn’t just coincidence; it felt divinely orchestrated. Kingsley literally saved her life, but in many ways, she ended up saving his too.

Their love story isn’t your typical meet-cute romance. It’s layered with grief, faith, temptation, and a spiritual war that threatens to destroy everything good. I loved how raw and broken both of them were—how healing didn’t come easily, but through intentional choices, grace, and faith.

Kingsley’s emotional journey had me in my feelings.
Adeola’s strength in the face of judgment, her quiet faith, her bravery—it felt so real.
The tension? Clean, yes. But so emotionally intense!
And the cultural backdrop? Yoruba tradition meets spiritual warfare in a way that felt so authentic and chilling.

I also appreciated how the book tackled heavy themes like generational curses, mental health, loss, church hypocrisy, and spiritual identity with grace.

If you love faith-driven stories with a touch of suspense, a deeply emotional romance, and powerful messages about healing and identity, Shattered is for you.

It’s not every day you come across a book that centers a plus-sized man with such care and depth. I absolutely enjoyed every bit of this story.

As a Yoruba person, I was especially impressed by the Oríkì (praise poetry) woven into the narrative — they were beautifully done and incredibly accurate. It was even more surprising (in the best way) that the author isn’t Yoruba, yet pulled it off so seamlessly. That level of research and respect for culture is commendable.

The chemistry between King and Deola was electric, and I especially loved how naturally King connected with Deola’s son, Jay. Their bond was heartwarming and real. Father Raymond’s unwavering love and protection for Kingsley also stood out — it was beautiful to see that kind of chosen family dynamic.

This book delves deep into the spiritual and generational — how our lineage and background can either empower or work against us, and how breaking generational cycles can begin with just one person. It highlights the spiritual battles we often fight silently and the strength it takes to rewrite our stories.

This is a solid 4-star read, and I highly recommend it. Rosemary didn’t disappoint!

I don’t usually like reading Christian romance, but this book completely drew me in from the first page to the last. What made it even more refreshing was seeing a plus-size male main character something we rarely get in romance novels. Kingsley was a deeply intentional character, navigating his own spiritual struggles. His bond with Father Raymond was particularly touching. more than a mentor, Father Raymond was both a guide and a true friend.
Adeola, a resilient widow, simply wanted a better life for herself and her son. Her connection with Kingsley was heartwarming. their chemistry was sweet, sincere, and felt wonderfully real. This was a clean Christian romance with just the right amount of spice . I also adored Pelumi, who stood by Adeola with unwavering loyalty and support. Everyone needs a friend like her .. The use of Bible verses throughout the story added a relatable and grounding touch that enhanced the spiritual themes without feeling heavy handed. From the well paced plot to the richly drawn characters and heartfelt writing, everything came together beautifully. I highly recommend it.

Kingsley, a young man plagued by strange dreams, visions, and supernatural encounters, finds himself entangled in the spiritual mythology of his bloodline—where demons and ancestral spirits wage unseen wars for his soul.

Desperate for answers and a solution to his recurring experiences, love is the last thing on his mind. But fate has other plans. He crosses paths with Adeola, a young widow navigating the most difficult phase of her life while raising a disabled child.

Adeola, caught in a bitter battle with her late husband’s family over property, has long shut the door on love and anything not tied to his memory. But love has a way of showing up when least expected—and some forces are too powerful to fight.

Kingsley and Adeola’s story is one of healing, resilience, and love born from shared pain and spiritual warfare. Their bond is as raw as it is redemptive.

If you’re looking for a Christian romance featuring tropes like a plus-size MMC, single mom FMC, church scandal, and strangers-to-lovers, Shattered should be at the top of your TBR.

A perfect mix of romance and spirituality.

My best chapters in this book were the Yoruba dialogues between the darkness and MMC. The accuracy of everything. The attention to detail in this book is the best. This is one of the books that would make a perfect movie.

The chemistry between the MMC, Kinsley, and the FMC, Adeola, was so well written. I felt like I was reading about actual grown adults and not little children, mature discussion and good communication, and not annoyance over nothing, but then that is something I love about all this author's works.

The spiritual battles Kinsley had to face, the mentor that stood in the gap for him, the friends that were there for him even when they couldn't have been able to understand him. Everything was so well thought through and written well. My take is that all things are from God, no matter how much the devil tries to manipulate it. Also, God is always taking care of you, whether you believe or agree or not.

4.75 from me.

A book with a plus size MMC? yes, please!
spirituality and dark powers meet romance in this story.
An MMC who fights a deity every day just so he could be a normal human being and his journey on how he navigated and pulled through against all odds.
This book was well detailed.. I loved how the author added the yoruba words to it. It made it feel so real.
This book would be a very good movie adaptation and I'd watch it!
The author thoroughly gave us a back story to all the events and happenings in the book, leaving no stone unturned.

I went into this book expecting to be wowed, and I wasn't disappointed; reasons why I love this author's work so much.
This book shows me that God can use anybody, and once you're chosen, no matter what you're facing, you'll pull through.
if you love paranormal romance, strangers to lovers trope, single mum FMC, this should be your next read.

‎Trust Rosemary Okafor to deliver top-tier Christian romance without trying to mince words or 'over-spiritualize' it.

‎When I got the ARC of Shattered, I was really excited because the author’s track record speaks for itself (For those of us familiar with her works). And I’m not here to exaggerate or stroke anyone's ego, but believe me when I say this is a solid 10/10 minus nothing

‎As soon as I finished reading, all I could say was, “This woman has done it again!” It’s one thing to write a story, it’s another to write with so much intentionality. And that’s what this book embodies. From the depth of the plot, you could tell that every detail was carefully thought out.

‎I also loved that the main characters; Kingsley and Dee were not static but dynamically evolved into better versions of themselves. And can I just say how refreshing it was to have a plus-size male main character? I’m used to seeing plus-size female leads, but this was new for me and I loved it.

‎This review will be spineless without a mention of the Yoruba language sprinkled throughout the book. That right there was the cherry on top for me! It added so much richness and authenticity. You could tell the author did her homework and it made those scenarios so real, you could picture it play out. I tried to imagine those scenes written purely in English and I do not think it would have the same impact as it did with the Yoruba language. So I am glad the author did not give into 'what ifs'.

The chemistry between Kingsley and Dee was top-notch. I love the banter and the tension was 'tensioning.' It was really palpable and was a perfect balance between sensuality and spirituality. It didn’t feel forced or overdone, it was just the right amount of everything.

‎And finally, the exploration of ancestral or generational curses was a bold and much-needed layer to the plot. It reminded me that some battles aren’t fought in the flesh  and breaking cycles often begins with just one person.

‎This definitely a must-read for all Christian romance lovers. Ciao ❤️

This was such a beautiful and heartwarming read. The struggle, the Bible references, the prayers, the yearning, everything felt so real.

I really liked Kingley’s character, despite everything he was going through still was a good man. I also loved how intentional Kingsley was with Adeola and it was fun reading a Godly chemistry😂.

This book was a reminder how God can turn situations around and also use people for his glory. Although I have so many questions I finished this book smiling and feeling spiritually uplifted.

If you love to read anyone who enjoys love stories that glorify God, this is a gem!

If there’s one thing I LOVED about this book, it's the way the author wrote the MMC. He's plus-sized, which was a brilliant representation of plus sized men. Kudos to Rosemary Okafor for that!!

Now, this is a Christian romance, right? She did that well, too. I haven’t read a book that tackles the problems these characters had, especially the MMC. She wrote them in a way that you gave to pay attention to get the message.

The chemistry between the characters was beautiful. It's slow burn, without spice (just a little teasing), but you could feel the way they loved each other.

Shattered was a good book. You should read it.

I love how much you portrayed Kinsley as a flawed human being but even with how flawed he was, God loved him so much and I love how much you reminded me that irrespective of what I think about myself; God loves me so much and he is always ready to take me back
This book grabbed my soul, threw it on the floor, stepped on it twice, and asked me to keep reading. The emotional turbulence? Premium. The drama? High-octane. The character pain? I felt it in my ancestors. I finished the last page staring into space like I was in a season finale. If you want a book that shakes your entire chest, welcome aboard..

One question I want to ask the author; Rosemary, Be Honest, What Did We Do to You?😭🤲🏽

I don’t really have a high imagination, but this book changed the narrative because the writting and descriptions were so vivid!!
I love the fact that it wasn’t your regular romance book and it had a heavy plot. Not Rosemary breaking through the shackles of cliche body types 😂
Plus size man and jacked Woman?that’s quite different and I LOVE IT!!!

I love the fact that Kingsley still retained his abilities even when the spirit left him too.

Moral of the story:When Jesus says Yes nobody can say no.

Hardly do you find love, tradition and Christianity cleverly woven together and painted in words. With every page you just find yourself being drawn into the events.
Rosemary keeps getting better and better. Treating issues "we" would not want to talk about in churches or even homes in a way that is pleasant to read speaks more.

Well done

Shattered by Rosemary okafor
Kingsley’s life is shaped by a powerful struggle between the good power of God and the dark forces linked to his family. He finds himself in the middle of this intense spiritual fight. Adeola, who is a widow and still grieving, never expected to love again. Her heart was closed—until one day, a man who saved her from an accident brings back feelings she thought she had lost forever. Rosemary Okafor’s writing combines emotional moments with suspense, creating a compelling read that explores faith, love, and healing. This book is a great choice for readers who enjoy spiritual drama mixed with romance.

This book was absolutely unforgettable.

From the very first chapter, I was hooked—not just by the storytelling, but by how boldly different this book is. 🥵👏
We’ve got:
✨ A plus-sized Yoruba MMC (omo, forget big size, forget that he was a truck driver plagued with paranormal visions, the man fine die!)
✨ A strong, widowed single mama navigating life with her disabled child 💪👶
✨ Deep representation of Yoruba mythology (Ẹ̀ṣù, Orúnmìlà, you name it!) 🧿
✨ A no-holds-barred peek into church scandals and the silent struggles behind the pulpit ⛪😔
✨ Adult conversations that are mature, raw, and real (yes o, this one no be "clean" Christian romance 😅💋)

This story does fade to black, but before then, let’s just say… the chemistry is chemistry-ing 🔥😮‍💨

And oh, if you’re scared of reading Yoruba like I am (as they're a lot of Yoruba words and phrases infused into the book) —no wahala, translations dey! 📖😉
This book isn’t just fiction—it's an adventure of love, faith, miracles and spiritual battles.

Rosemary Okafor is one author that always delivers on her books. This is one book I have read from her that is very different from other books she has written, and she still aced this one.
I loved the writing style, the plot, and oh, I enjoyed reading from both Kingsley's and Adeola's POV, as it gave more insight to what exactly was going on in their minds.
the blend between the main characters and other characters in the book gave it the much needed depth.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read.♥️
