THE LITHIUM EXPLOSIVE: BLAKE'S DILEMMA

Rate this book
UK Political Intrigue, International espionage, murder and kidnapping follow the development of a massive non-nuclear explosive device by a British Blue-Chip company. Following successful trials by the military, Israel, Russia the United States and China become aware of this secret invention based on the bombardment of Pure Lithium with a combination of top-secret Sigma and Zeta waves.

Politics intrude in the shape of serious doubts that the Foreign Secretary's wife Ruth Esterson, a fervent supporter of Zionist causes, might be leaking information on the explosives to the Israelis. Blake learns of this suspicion at a political dinner in Downing Street and, at the instigation of his old boss Sir Peter Fielding Head of MI5, meets up with her in Trieste following Ruth's attendance at a significant family funeral in Israel. It becomes clear to Blake that her support for Israeli causes runs deep but less clear as to whether she has actually leaked secret information to them regarding the Lithium Project.

Pressure mounts on Blake Simpson and his wife Valerie, owners of the company, when one of their staff is murdered by an intruder in search of plans for the Lithium device. Blake, a former MI5 agent, retains close contacts with Sir Peter Fielding UKs chief spymaster and their interests intersect on the Lithium Project with turbulent results.

Blake looks to his long-time friend and ally Isaac Hart to help in the search for a missing scientist from their Research Centre, visiting his parents in North East Poland. Has he wandered off, been kidnapped or defected to the Russians in Kaliningrad? Isaac and the scientist’s daughter Sonya effect an audacious rescue from within the Russian oblast, aided by an old friend of her father, who is a local Roman Catholic priest, who tragically pays for his involvement with his life.

One of Valerie’s racehorses, stabled at Newmarket, is shot and killed. The Chancellor of the Exchequer’s wife Penny, whose father owns the stables, witnessed this appalling act at close hand. Was this an act of revenge by the Russians or an actual attempt on her life?

The pressure intensifies when Blake and Valerie’s teenage son is kidnapped and demands are made by Mossad agents for some of the Lithium Explosives to be made available in exchange for his release. Isaac is again involved in a bold rescue with an entirely unpredictable outcome. This leads to some fundamental and conflicting questions about the retention of the Lithium Project against national defence interests.

This action-packed must-read thriller filled with suspense, mystery and unexpected twists is a story of resilience, courage and determination in the face of emerging and seemingly overwhelming challenges.
