Content This story contains mature, explicit themes and intimate scenarios that reflect the complexity of human relationships. At Sacrosanct, intimacy is rooted in consent, though it often springs from the seduction of image, desire, or fleeting passions rather than mutual respect. Some moments are passionate and wonderful, others messy, and occasionally disappointing—because sex, like life, is imperfect.

Wow. What a ride. Nixie Lotus’s taut, fraught, gorgeously written debut was a pleasant surprise, sowing chaos in what has come to be the rote and formulaic world of modern erotica.
Let me first say that, as I just implied, I don’t generally read erotica anymore. Sex for sex’s sake with a sprinkling of stale, overdone plot devices has lost its appeal, but from the first paragraph, it was obvious that Sacrosanct is the exact opposite of that.

Freshly original and believable, we’re drawn into the world of a goth club that is one Mad-Hatter-clad man’s dream, one he will sacrifice anything to keep, and the dark goddess who holds the keys to that future will indeed demand a sacrifice that may be more than Orlando can pay with heart and mind intact.

Yes, there is titillation galore, and it gets nice and steamy, but beyond the sex scenes, the churning, glamorous, sinful world of Sacrosanct has a life of its own—the club itself is a character in the story. The music, fashion, and characters pulsing with life made me wish with all my heart that the club was real, and a place I could go. Though a few of these characters—the gloriously wicked Jade, the screwed-up egomaniacal man-child Rain—I wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley! For others, like heart-of-gold bartender Troy and goth-queen-holding-onto-her-integrity Alison, I could wish for a kinder fate. But that’s what’s great about being on Volume 1 of this incredible series: anything can happen in later volumes, and probably will, and I can’t wait to see it all unfold.
