This giant volume is a collection of articles relating to the history of American higher education, ranging from medieval European influences, all the way up to the monumental changes of the last half of the 20th century. The knowledge contained in this collection is essential for anyone studying higher education, and while some of the articles are more difficult to get through than others, I appreciated the variation in topics, tones, and approaches, rather than reading one textbook which attempted to discuss all of the myriad elements necessary.
