Dating is hard, and mistakes happen. Whether it’s a bad date or a doomed relationship, we all need time to recover and means to heal. Pour Decisions is filled with cocktail and mocktail recipes that celebrate getting free from the bad choices and moving on. Whether you’re wanting to get the gang together to commiserate or you’re flying solo, there are 100 different drinks to help you remember all the reasons you’ve blocked that person from your phone.

Each chapter focuses on a different spirit, so if you have a favorite spirit, you can drink your way through the chapter. Or if you’d rather drink by the nature of your bad relationship, then you can jump around as you want. Did he want to be a star? Grab your mezcal and make an Aspiring Rapper/DJ. Was she a Gold Digger? Buy yourself some tequila. Was he a Mamma’s Boy? That rum drink with the coffee liqueur, chocolate liqueur, and heavy cream will be perfect. Or were you looking at a Land Mine? Then go all the way to whiskey to deal with that bomb of an ex.

The drinks vary from simple to complex. You don’t need an entire home bar to make these drinks, but you do need a handful of tools to get started. And if you’re worried about the expense of the alcohol, they offer up affordable brands that bring the flavor to help you out. A lot of these drinks include add-ins like fruit or cola, cream or herbs, as well as simple syrup (they include a recipe you can make yourself).

My biggest problem with this book is that there are lots of gorgeous photos throughout. It makes me want to drink so many things at once, which would not end well. But on the plus side, the chapter of mocktails look just as beautiful, and those come with fewer consequences for the next morning. But seriously, with 100 recipes, there is something for everyone, whether dealing with a Trauma Dump, a Terrible Texter, Mixed Signals, a Big Yikes, or Cling Wrap. And if you just can’t deal with any of it any more, there is always the Bare Minimum (a simple shot of vodka).

I thought that Pour Decisions was so charming. There is a wide variety of flavors, and the tie-ins to bad exes is clever. The recipes are accessible and can be scaled for a party, if you need to get the gang together to mourn the past or to celebrate the chance to move on. I love the creativity of Pour Decisions, the stylishness of these drinks, and the feeling of camaraderie with others who have had bad dating moments (even for the times the mistakes were my own).

Egalleys for Pour Decisions were provided by Cider Mill Press through NetGalley, with many thanks, but the opinions are mine.

This was one of the first cookbook-genre reads for me that I've read in a capacity to truly actually read the book, not just skim recipes!

Firstly, hats off to the designer, stylist, and photographer. The imagery throughout the book is amazing. On the photo side of things, the colors were vibrant, and perspectives were varied and impactful. Even drinks that I don't know I'd enjoy taste-wise had such visual appeal, they looked amazing. The stylist did a really great job adding a level of drama to things. In particular, the Lime Twist arcing up from around the base of the glass to the garnish spear at the top on page 73 for "Red Flag"???? Incredible. Normally, looking at the ingredients for this in a list, it doesn't look like something I'd pick for myself. But if I saw that served, I'd go "Ooh, what's that? I want one of those." On top of that, the graphic design was punchy, and I liked it. It felt very "cool girl" with the color and font choices, and complemented the images well, because the graphics held their own on a page without images, but didn't dominate when paired with one.

The thing that really left me wanting SO MUCH MORE was the attitude of blurbs. I really appreciated that the blurb for each recipe was short (sometimes cookbooks are a little too long for their own good, you get me?), but often, then started to feel repetitive, always ending with "and this drink will help." But more than that, the introduction hooked me. After reading the intro, I was actually jazzed to get recipes and snark from girls who get me. But then some of that went away by the end of the recipes list, and I desperately wanted a wrap-up conclusion with that same wit and girls-girl persona. If I was just still intrigued, that'd be one thing, but the letdown there as the recipes went on (because there are a lot!) was a bit much.

Finally, I really would just have loved to see more grouping of the recipes? The little introductions of each section called out a specific type of relationships--and there was allusion to that in the introduction to the book as well. So I expected to see all the recipe blurbs follow the thread for that relationship type. For example, tequila for blowing off steam and flings, moodier whiskey drinks for when a two-year relationship ends, etc. I didn't get that continuity throughout, which I really wanted!

Pour Decisions
100 Cocktails for Every Heartbreak, Bad Date, and Unsolicited "Hey"

Breakups may be messy, but your cocktails don't have to be. Pour Decisions is a hilarious and clever cocktail book that turns romantic regret into laugh-out-loud therapy in a glass. With 100 cheeky recipes, this book had me giggling, nodding, and bookmarking drinks I definitely plan to make. I love the witty names and the little blurb that absolutely nails the mood: Dead Weight, Mai Tai Me Down, or the Cheater Rita. The tone is spot-on for those nights when you're laughing through the cringe of old texts and questionable choices. One tequila-based drink is called "It Didn't Mean Anything." Love it.

The layout is clean and easy to use, and the photos of the drinks add a fun, glossy touch. This is the kind of book you break out on a Friday night with your friends, ready to swap stories and mix up some delicious liquid closure.

Whether you're celebrating your glow-up or need a drink to forget your last relationship, this book delivers. It's sassy, well-designed, and surprisingly comforting in a "we've all been there" kind of way.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for the advanced copy; this one's going straight to the top of my "gift for the recently dumped" list.

Review of Pour Decisions

First Impressions
Pour Decisions immediately stands out with its appealing and modern layout. Each drink is accompanied by a beautifully shot photograph—well-lit, artfully styled, and thoughtfully garnished. The font pairings are clever and easy to read, especially the script-style drink titles, which add personality without sacrificing clarity. The overall design feels clean and contemporary without being overly sleek or “sterile,” striking a perfect balance between fun and stylish.

Organisation
The book is organised by spirit type—vodka, gin, and so on—making it simple to flip straight to the mood or bottle you’re working with. Each section also features a witty title tied to the book’s “bad romance” theme; for example, gin becomes “Pur-Gin You From My Life.” After the introduction, the author provides spirit recommendations, tool suggestions, additional mixers, and glassware basics. A useful conversion chart at the back rounds everything off.

Accessibility
I really appreciated the inclusion of three variations for each spirit, catering to different budgets and tastes. There’s also a straightforward recipe for simple syrup. Even in the mixers, tools, and glassware sections, the book clearly differentiates between “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves,” making this a very accessible guide for both new and seasoned home bartenders. The drink recipes themselves are easy to follow and clearly written.

Recipe Variety
Each spirit category offers around 15 recipes, so you’re spoiled for choice. The final chapter, “Sober Enough to See You Clearly,” contains an impressive 14 mocktails. From bright, fruity spritzers like “Compensating” to richer creations such as the coconut-cream-forward “Wet Blanket,” there’s truly something for every mood and palate. No matter what you’re craving, the variety here keeps things fresh and exciting.

Drinks I Tried
I tested a handful of recipes using the wine and highball glasses I already had on hand, and they all turned out delicious. “Mr Right All The Time”—a mix of sugar, ginger ale, and lemon juice—was a standout, as those are some of my favourite flavours. I also enjoyed “Sloppy Joe,” a vibrant blend of juices, and “Shallow End,” a margarita-style drink using simple syrup. It turns out “Wishy Washy” is remarkably close to something I already make with 7Up; I’ll definitely be trying the ginger ale version soon. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, even without specialised drinkware.

Extra Features
One of my favourite aspects of this book is that it reads almost like a story collection—touching on breakups, annoying bosses, toxic relationships, and more. Modern phrases like “ick” and “red flag” pop up throughout, adding humour and relatability. Each drink includes a themed blurb that ties in perfectly with its title. The addition of glassware guides and tiered spirit recommendations only enhances the usefulness of the book.

Intended Audience
This collection will appeal to beginners, casual home bartenders, enthusiastic hosts, and cocktail nerds alike. Its approachability, humour, and variety make it enjoyable no matter your skill level.

I honestly can’t find any weak points here, especially with the generous no-alcohol section that ensures everyone can join in. The full-colour photograph for each drink is extremely helpful and adds to the overall charm.

Recommendations
I highly recommend Pour Decisions to anyone who loves experimenting with drinks. It encourages creativity without being complicated, offering simple, flavourful recipes that both taste amazing and look gorgeous. Whether you’re hosting a gathering, mixing something for a date night, or treating yourself on a quiet evening, this book is a fun, practical, and stylish addition to any home bar.

First up: the title is hilarious and fits the whole theme of the book and the recipes really well! I really enjoyed skipping through the contents of this one and trying some of the drinks listed.

I liked that there was an overview of different spirits and what you can use that fits your budget (or the lack of one).

The design and overlay is really nicely done and easy on the eyes. You also get told in the beginning what you absolutely need for the cocktails and what is helpful/nice to have. E.g. you need a strainer but a juicer is optional. That also goes for the mixers (e.g. triple sec and vice versa) and glasses.

Each recipe has a unique name fitting the ex theme and has a fun little text accompanying the recipe. The glassware you’re supposed to use is also listed and the instructions are easy to follow. I also really appreciated the pictures that were shown for every drink!

The book contains a lot of beginner friendly and standard cocktails, minus the name, but you als get a few that are lesser known. I’m sure there’s a drink in here for everyone!

A simple and fun approach to making cocktails at home. There are sections on the base of the drink (e.g. gin, whiskey). Each page provides a run name, explains the ingredients and glassware required, a burb on the link between the name and the drink (with some tips on making the drink) and straight-forward directions. You can easily make these drinks with your home bar. There are pictures to help inspire you with each drink.

I generally enjoy whiskey-based drinks and I thought:
- One-man show - a drink that I loved (and truly represented my state of mind!)
- Walking on eggshells - a classic whiskey sour with a punny name
- Burnout - definitely a drink that I would tolerate if I burned both ends of the candle and had nothing left to give.

There is a non-alcoholic section for those who want to join in the fun.

Overall, these are classic cocktails with a fun spin to it. Perfect for a girls gathering to laugh and share stories.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

Pour Decisions is a book that would be perfect for a "Happy Break-up" Party or funny gift for someone that just dodged a relationship bullet. The introduction lists ingredients and equipment that are "must-have", "nice-to-have", and "wishlist". The majority of the ingredients are accessible, although some might require substitutions unless you are truly serving a cocktail party (who has 3 pineapple leaves hanging around?). Some of the cocktails are just classic cocktails with funny names (i.e., The Brutally Bittersweet is a negroni), but who cares? It's really clever and punny. The pictures are beautiful and very enticing!

Ultimately, the majority of these drinks are actually drinks that I could see someone making for a small group of folks. I think I need to have a cocktail party with my gals.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to share this feedback!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is such a fun cocktail book with each cocktail having a twist on the name as a reminder as to why you may have left the ex or a reminder as to why you wouldn’t want to go back there. The budget, classic and perfect options for each spirit at the beginning is great as often drinks books either advise the expensive only or just say the spirit and expect you to already know which is best in each price range. There were some really specific titles such as the terrible texter, it didn’t mean anything and dead weight as well as some more I’d imagined such as love bomb and gold digger. The pictures alongside each recipe make each one look really appealing and also gives us decoration suggestions.

This cocktail book is fun, easy to enjoy, and full of creative drinks with funny names that make light of dating disasters. The photos are beautiful and really helpful if you like to see what you're making. The drink names are hilarious!! Drinks like “Petty Colada” and “Gaslighter’s Gin Fizz” made me laugh... and they actually taste great, too! Whether you're hanging out with friends or just relaxing on your own, this book is a great pick. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's been through a breakup and could use a good drink and a good laugh.

A special thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. It was so worth it!

This cocktail book is perfect if you want some comedic relief with a touch of encouragement/advice! The formatting is unique, a breath of fresh air, and there are pictures for almost every drink. My favorite recipe is “Bare Minimum” with the description “this is a shot of vodka.” While I’m not a vodka-shot person, this cracked me up and was a good break between recipes.

This book combines tasty cocktails with clever names, sassy commentary from a broken-hearted person, and plenty of advice for one's love life. The pictures inside are inspiring, and the order of the cocktails is perfect.

Overall, the book is perfect for a cocktail night with the friend group, along with a trauma dumb bowl, and a cheesy movie on the screen. Can't wait to try them out!

The concept of this book is witty and ensures a good time with your girls on a "White wine and appetizer at my house on Friday at 8?"-night. It's funny and a great conversation opener. I especially liked that non-alcoholic beverages were included and the guide to price-quality spirits shopping, which is a nice touch for not familiarized people.

If you need a fun gift for someone who has recently broken up with someone, and they need to drown their sorrows in a fun way, this is the book for them. One of the drinks that amused me was the Gaslighting cocktail. Which, honestly, is a great drink for any family gathering as well.
