Attraction, not attachment, worked perfectly until now…

Sienna Daly has a heart of gold, but she’s always struggled to value herself. Now with a new job under her belt and finally going back to university, she might just have found her path in life. Until Debs—the successful, confident and way out of her league woman that Sienna had never factored into her plans—arrives. Love was never on her cards. Attraction she can do, but attachment is one step too far.

Debs Brannigan’s life is good. A thriving business, two beautiful children, a found family she loves; everything she has she’s built for herself. Even after her divorce she thinks she has it all figured out. But when she does a simple, selfless good deed to help one stunning woman, Debs gets more than she bargained for. And Sienna might just be the one thing she can’t fix.

As the two work together on a fundraiser, Sienna finds herself not only buying into Debs’ belief of her, but also in the chance of a happy ever after. But Sienna can never have anything good, and when that constant voice of disappointment gets louder, pushing away Debs is the only way Sienna can think of protecting herself—and Debs—from getting hurt.

But Debs isn’t one for running, leading to Sienna to tell the painful truth which has haunted her every choice.

Will Sienna allow herself to be loved, and find a place in a life which already seems too perfect for her to fit into?

Secure Attachment is such a lovely contemporary romance by Ami Spencer. This is my first read by them, and I am now a huge fan. I might also be in love with Debs. Spencer has given us a master class on how to support a partner in general—and, more specifically, one dealing with insecurities and spiraling anxiety and who is prone to panic attacks.
Both characters are likable and relatable. They are intelligent and complex individuals, and they complement each other well. The chemistry is fantastic, and there are beautiful, spicy scenes.
Debs is a divorced, single mother of two adorable children and a kitten named Steve. She is a successful business owner in a male-dominated field. She is also “straight.”
Sienna is a younger woman working at a community center with plans to return to university for social work.
They meet at an event and become friends. Over time, they grow closer, and a relationship develops organically. There is a third-act breakup that makes sense in light of Sienna's trauma and does not feel contrived. The two work very hard at communication, and Debs handles her personal revelation with refreshing maturity. No gay panic here!
I also love how fiercely she cares for and protects Sienna. There is a strong found-family support system, healthy coping mechanisms, explicit consent, and competency is sexy. We get non-binary rep, and same-sex families with children.
Spencer's strength is creating vivid emotional experiences. I was definitely in my feels on more than one occasion. The author explores difficult topics like grief, low self-worth, a toxic parent, returning to university later in life, and coming out later in life.
The relationship between Debs and Sienna is definitely couple goals.
The pacing was perfect for me, and I couldn't put it down. The ending was very satisfying. I highly recommend this novel, and I will be reading more from Ami Spencer.

Question: Can I keep Debs? I really enjoyed this read, and I’ll admit that I fell in love with Debs and Sienna. I loved how patient, supportive, and caring Debs was with Sienna. She was such a sweetheart! Sienna struggled with insecurities and I found that very relatable. I just wanted to hug her and maybe fight her mom. I’ve never wanted to knock out a fictional character's headlights, but here we are. Anyway, I highly recommend reading this gem. Oh, one more thing...the spice? A confident older woman? Pretty please. Happy reading!

Ami Spencer is a new to me author, and their latest release Secure Attachment felt like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s day. It’s always fantastic when a writer I’ve enjoyed has a few books under their belt so I can add to my ever-expanding TBR.

Sienna starts a new job. One she isn’t sure she can do, but she is determined to give it her all. Her boss is supportive, and as she is aiming to go back to UNI, everything seems to be falling into place.

When Debs drops by her workplace, Sienna is instantly drawn to the high-powered businesswomen. And not just because she has everything together, but because she is gorgeous. Debs finds herself wanting to help Sienna and is eager to make sure she reaches her potential.

As Sienna and Debs get to know each other, romance blossoms. Between organising events, navigating an unhealthy parental relationship, and re-evaluating the importance of a life/work balance, both women find that true happiness can be exactly what they choose.

Spencer writes authentically, with a range of characters. Everyone in this book is relatable, and someone you could imagine being a friend, a lover, or a neighbour. The storyline is relevant, and the ease in which Debs navigates her new feelings is refreshing. To have an MC who doesn’t need to question her emotions but embraces them is one of the highlights of this book for me.

With a villain, you just want to punch in the face, a couple of cute kids, and enough steamy scenes to keep you blushing, Secure Attachment is a book you don’t want to miss.

From the very first moment until the last this book had me in its grips.

Emotions were balanced perfectly with the humour, and every actions of the main characters (and even the side characters) made sense in their complicated human conditions.

I laughed so much, cried at the raw emotion, and found I simultaneously point read it fast enough while never wanting it to end.

It was also super fun to see Grace and Mica from Binding Bricks. I’ve missed those crazy humans.

Some outstanding moments that HAVE to be mentioned:

- You’re such an idiot for a gorgeous woman.
- Please, carry on. Tell me I look far too young. It would do wonders for my ego.
- what do you need right now?
- I’m not implying anything. I’ll f*#?ing say it out right if I have to.
- Lesbian crisis. It’s that period where our lesbian brain and our rational brain crash.

Secure Attachment starts slow and keeps a steady uphill pace for a majority of the novel. It’s contemporary in the best way, tackling real life issues with new blossoming romance. For a little bit, I was content to give it a solid 4 or 4 and a half stars, until the plot twist sent it to 5. The communication between Sienna and Debs is so realistic it made me consider implementing the positives into my marriage. I loved that it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows the whole way through, as Sienna struggled through her trauma with Debs as a strong force beside her. Their constant check-ins with each only get more common as the book goes on and it was especially sweet during intimacy scenes. I love nothing more than two women fighting to be with each other in such a normal setting. It’s especially great to see a newly divorced woman finding her footing in life again while another gains confidence.

The LGBTQ+ representation was easy and normal, and I especially love to see kids so accepting in books. My biggest gripe was he short chapters and the quick jumps between them. I’m more used to scenes continuing on from one chapter to another instead of time skips (however small). I also feel like some things were left hanging, like Sienna’s job or Joel Marshall. In the end, it didn’t matter much to me, as the romance part was so perfect that’s all I cared for.

Thank you to Ami Spencer for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I’m looking forward to this book’s release on April 8th this year. It’s well worth picking up!

Once I heard Debs was getting her own story, I was so excited! Well, this book did not disappoint!

I loved Debs no nonsense playful personality in Binding Bricks and she shined in Secure Attachment! She was open and true, accepting and kind, loyal and present.

Sienna was so amazing (not that she would agree) and truly perfect for Debs. They complimented each other and blended with an ease that just felt right.

Their story was well paced. I was hooked from beginning to end, falling more for these characters every chapter. I loved seeing Mica and Grace and the kids. Their found family is goals.

Highly recommend!!

It took me 2 chapters to get use to the writing style being it was more European and I’m from NorCal! Once I got the hang of the writing style I was hooked! Toward the end I kept checking how many pages were left because I wasn’t ready for it to end.

What an amazing emotional story. Debs really is the whole package and such an amazing mother and girlfriend. Sienna was so emotionally abused by her mother throughout the book that I wanted to crawl into the book and stand up for her if Deb’s didn’t.

I loved how Debs and Siennas relationship built from friendship first. Deb’s was such a supportive friend then girlfriend. Debs was so kind and forgiving. The physical relationship between the MCs was tastefully detailed, sensual, yet still spicy.

As you read the story you can feel all the MCs emotions. They jump off the page and right into your heart. I needed a tissue or two by the end of the book. I loved how Debs had a healthy relationship with the father of her kids. This story had such an amazing wrap up in the last few chapters that it didn’t need an epilogue.

I received a free copy of this book and it is the first one I’ve read from this author. I can’t wait to read other books by them.

This was my first time reading Ami Spencer's work. I didn't know anything about them going in, but the blurb caught my eye so when I got the opportunity to read it, I took it. The plot is really lovely, with wonderful characters who it's easy to fall for.

Debs is funny, caring, and loyal, and she does everything she can to build up the people around her and be the best mom she can for her two children. She's never been with a woman before, but she feels drawn to Sienna Daly from the get go. Sienna is kind and gentle, but she's got a lot of trauma hiding under the surface. She doesn't think her crush on the presumably straight Debs is going to go anywhere, but their connection just gets stronger the longer they know each other. Sienna struggles to reconcile the woman Debs sees with the woman she's afraid she is, her self-worth having been destroyed by an emotionally abusive mother. I have to admit that I identified with Sienna much more than I'd like, and there were quite a few scenes that left me in tears.

The other characters are also great, particularly a couple consisting of Debs' two best friends Grace and Mica (who, I take it, are from an earlier book), and Sienna's best friend Max (who I expect we'll get a story for later), although I found myself wishing for more of Sienna's boss, Liz, and a few of the others.

There was a side conflict that didn't make much sense and just felt like filler to me, and there was a pretty big time jump fairly early in the book that I felt took away from the opportunity to show the relationship develop between Debs and Sienna. I also found the writing to be a bit choppy at times, but overall Secure Attachment was a really good read, and I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

I received a free ARC from the author, but my review is unbiased and left voluntarily.

Another enjoyable romance from Ami Spencer. I was looking forward to reading Debs’ story and it didn’t disappoint.
Believable, flawed but deeply likeable characters are what Spencer writes well, and Debs and Sienna have all of these qualities.
The story keeps you engaged and hoping they can find their way through to happiness.

Amazing Story!

I loved reading Sienna and Debs' story! I loved the family aspect, especially with the kids accepting. Max is my favorite character. I love how unfiltered they are and the continued friendship. This story hit the emotions, I was laughing, tearing up, and rooting for Sienna.

secure attachment is a slow burn sapphic romance that takes its time—not just with the relationship, but with its characters’ emotional arcs. the pacing is steady throughout, which i actually appreciated. it gave the story room to breathe and made sienna’s growth feel more organic. even though the romance builds slowly, the narrative never drags, thanks to the emotional layers being unraveled along the way.

one of the strengths of this book is its grounded realism. sienna’s past decision to step away from university—because she was grieving and unsure of what she wanted—was handled with care. it wasn’t framed as the wrong choice, just one her mother unfairly labeled as a failure (not surprising, given how little support her mother offered in general). her grief, which she wasn’t given the time or space to process when she was younger, still echoes in her present. it built up over the years, and only in adulthood did she finally begin to grieve in a way that felt real and personal to her. the book highlights that grief takes many forms, and that there’s no single, correct way to experience it. that kind of thoughtful depiction really stood out to me.

and honestly? i related to her a lot. growing up without a strong support system, sienna doesn’t always believe she’s allowed to want more. she doesn’t need someone to fix her—she just needs someone who will listen. that hit hard.

debs, on the other hand, sometimes felt a little too good to be true. she’s calm, supportive, a successful single mom with a thriving business and a steady emotional presence. but despite that slightly idealized vibe, i still found myself thinking, we all kind of need a debs in our lives. she believes in people quietly and consistently, without pushing. her love for her kids, her found family, and her gentle encouragement of sienna made her feel like a warm, steady force throughout the book.

there’s also solid lgbtq+ representation, woven in naturally without needing to be explained. it’s refreshing to see a diverse cast just existing as they are, with queerness integrated into their lives rather than being the central conflict.

by the second half, i was hooked. the emotional payoff of watching sienna begin to believe she’s worthy of love—of care, of softness, of staying—is what makes the story shine. it’s a romance rooted in emotional intimacy and quiet transformation, with thoughtful themes and a lot of care in how it portrays healing and connection.

thank you, ami spencer, for the e-arc of this book! 🩷

A hopeful romance!

Divorcee Debs has her life figured out until the day she helps a young woman in need. Sienna is finally getting settled until she meets Debs in an hour of need. With both of their worlds tipped when a mutual attraction sparks between them as they work on the fundraiser, life is changing again for them both.

I really enjoyed this because both Debs and Sienna were women with vulnerabilities they were burying deep to keep on surviving on what they knew. They really did get along and have that instant spark from the moment they met, and what started to blossom between them was so cute! I was instantly rooting for whatever was happening between them to form the relationship they now both deserved. There was a slight hesitancy because they were working on this important fundraiser together, and Debs definitely had a heartbreaking insecurity about why someone like Sienna would want her.

Debs was just the confidence boost Sienna needed, and I resonated with her hang-ups about not being good enough to have good things, those that others seemed to gain with ease. Empathising with that gave me a deeper emotional connection with the story and Debs and Sienna, which elevated my reading experience with this story. Ami very cleverly wove in Sienna’s thought process without her having to verbalise it, so I was recognising signs right from the beginning.

A great story, with lots of heart and soul, and a hopeful message. Kindness makes the world go round, and Sienna and Debs were two of the kindest people that really deserved happiness together.

Oh my heart 😭❤️

Another beautiful story by Ami, hooked from the first page and absolutely flew through it!

This is technically a follow-up to Binding Bricks but could be read as a standalone as it provides enough context for anything that gets referred to (I do however highly recommend reading Binding Bricks first as it is also excellent).

I was looking forward to reading more about Debs after loving her as a supporting character in Binding Bricks and I was not disappointed! I loved her strength and no-nonsense attitude, matched with her compassion and growth. I absolutely adored Sienna and felt so invested in her story and understanding her struggles. I was in tears often reading this. Partly due to how well Ami captured the beautiful blossoming romance between Debs and Sienna and also the authentic way difficulties with relationships, grief and the impact of a bad childhood can have on a person.

I once again loved the supporting characters, it was great seeing Mica, Grace and the kids back. Also Max is a delight and I would love a follow-up with their story 👀 Ami has a great knack for making all the characters have depth and feel real and relatable.

Also important to acknowledge how stunning the cover art is to this book, obsessed!

I'll be absolutely checking out more of this author's work and keeping eagle eyes out for future stories!

Honestly review provided in exchange for an ARC.

There’s something about Ami Spencer’s writing that feels so different but also feels like home. The way they flesh out characters and backstories is magical.

Debs. Everyone deserves a Debs. That woman has a healthy attachment style, and I love to see it.

I think people will really resonate with Sienna’s lack of confidence. Maybe not to the extent of hers due to her trauma, but we all have our issues. Sienna’s backstory was heartbreaking, and although I could tell what had happened, it didn’t make that moment of finding out what happened in her past hurt any less.

Debs and Sienna’s relationship was beautiful and bloomed nicely. I could feel the attraction burn brightly without it seeming over the top or too insta-love.

Third act breakups aren’t my favorite, but when they advance the plot and make sense, they hit different. This, for me, made sense. I didn’t find myself siding with one person, I had empathy for both characters, which is something that is important for me. It was heart wrenching on both sides, and I found myself rooting so hard for them to reunite.

Sienna’s relationship with Charlie and Thea was so sweet and wholesome. Her bond with Charlie really healed Debs and helped Debs own relationship with Charlie.

Side note: it was so nice to see Grace and Mica throughout this book. I forgot how much I missed them both.

Overall, I love this book, and I can’t wait for more from Ami Spencer. I wonder if we’ll see a love story for Max in the future? (I hope so)

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨- 3,75 stars

Secure Attachment by Ami Spencer is such a heartwarming, cozy read that completely charmed me.

Sienna and Debs have one of the healthiest, sweetest, and most loving relationships I’ve read in a long time—I absolutely adored watching their connection grow. From awkward beginnings to full-on emotional intimacy, their journey was just so tender and real.

As a plant lover, I was thrilled by all the plant love sprinkled throughout the book—it added so much warmth and character to the story. And let’s be honest…Steve the cat. The name alone is already iconic ♡

I also really appreciated the inclusion of non-binary characters—it was done with care and felt natural in the world of the book. Ans while at characters, Debs? I simply adore Debs. “How do you keep a Peace Lily from dying?”—I melted. 🪴

One of my favorite moments was Sienna trying to talk herself out of hanging out with Debs “just as friends”—it was so cute and so relatable. Watching her slowly let herself fall in love was pure joy.

This is a soft, affirming sapphic romance full of heart, humor, and houseplants—and I loved every page of it.

A Heartbreaking & Heartwarming Story Of 💕

Ami Spencer has special way with her storytelling that draws you in. So much so that you are so absorbed and focused. Her twists and turns make for incredible writing. This book was so special in so many ways. The idea of a Debs Brannigan, a recent divorcee with two children, a company owner and all out badass in business. But when Debs meets Sienna Daly, something inside of her is awaken. They strike up a friendship with Debs helping Sienna during a big moment. But there is a turn in their friendship that neither saw coming but oh so wanted. It is a well written story about someone who is internally suffering from a parent’s verbal abuse and the new friend who wants to help her but is being left on the outside. As their relationship turns personal and feelings are developing fast, Sienna is losing the battle that is in her head. All the love coming from Debs is not enough to shake the guilt and uselessness. This is a must read.

I'd been eagerly awaiting this follow on from binding bricks and it didn't disappoint.
Ami has such a beautiful way of writing and really capturing real and raw feelings on the page.
It was like a comforting hug to be back with some familiar characters, and getting to know some wonderful new friends too (and equally someone I disliked more and more each time they appear!)
This story shows how grief is experienced differently from person to person - and that that's ok.
Yet again Ami hit me in the feels with this one and I absolutely loved it. Huge thanks for having me as part of your arc team again.

Beautifully Authentic!

Secure Attachment is an achingly beautiful sapphic romance. Debs and Sienna’s relationship begins as a soft and sweet friendship that convincingly escalates to a deep, passionate connection without losing any of that gentleness. Both women are incredibly realistic and relatable as are their found family members, Mica, Grace, and Max. Poignant internal tension and family conflict drive the story through themes of grief, self-discovery, friendship, and trust all the way to a satisfying conclusion. The story may very well tear you apart a little along the way, but its authenticity and heart will put you back together.

I love how Ami always writes stories that deal with real life issues, and Secure Attachment did not disappoint.

Debs’ and Sienna’s romance was great from the start. Even with Sienna never feeling good enough, Debs was patient and understanding. Once Sienna was able to get past her fear with Debs’ support, they were able to have the HEA they deserved.

Supporting characters are great and I would love for Max to have a story of their own! Also, the cover art is fantastic.

Such an Amazing read. And OMG the plot twist! I love how the LGBTQ+ community was represented in this story. Sienna had her struggles and Debs helped her through them and stayed by her side. They are the true representation of Communication is key in a relationship. This story was not sugar coated at all. There wasn’t always happiness & sunshine and I really liked that! I love when two people are willing to put in the work to stay together and that’s Sienna and Debs! Amazing job writing this story Ami. I look forward to reading your future books!

This book… absolutely blew my mind! I wholeheartedly adore Debs and I fell in love with Sienna. The LGBTQ+ rep is phenomenal and all of it feels like it could be real. It wasn’t strained and it didn’t feel like something that HAD to be done. It was easy and organic which made it even easier to get sucked in. I was utterly consumed by this story and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Beautiful love story

This was an absolutely beautiful story about two women given a second chance at finding happiness. They both have their own obstacles to overcome and compliment each other perfectly. Siennas story and struggle with her mom really hit home and I imagine a lot of readers will relate. Highly recommend this one!

How did I not know about Ami Spencer. This book was everything and I loved seeing an amicable divorce. A new author to me and I couldn't be more impressed.

Sienna has the most positive outlook on life and she has so much love to give back to her friends, her community and to the children she mentors. She doesn't have the best relationship with her mom because her mom always is condescending and talks down towards her, like her life is worthless and she should be more like her sister. Always getting compared to someone else, self-worth diminishing, no trust in herself, Sienna needs to find a way to persevere.

Debs, a recently divorced woman with two kids and a very successful business. Debs is finally figuring herself out after her marriage falls apart, no fault of their own when she meets Sienna. Debs company did work for the place Sienna works at and they meet at the grand opening. When Debs realizes that maybe friendship isn't the only think that's on her mind when it comes to Sienna and she enlists the help of her best friends to figure out what is going on with her emotions/feelings.

Will Sienna let her guards down and not doubt herself when it comes to Debs or will that self-doubt get in the way of their relationship? The story line was great, the only thing that felt annoying was Sienna's self doubt throughout the whole book and how it let her consume her. But, in hindsight, I guess that was a major part of the book.

What I really liked was how normal and relaxed Debs was with her new discovery: her attraction to a woman for the first time in her life.
It's often bad and traumatic in books, when a previously straight woman discovers she's attracted to another woman.
Not here, and that makes Debs an even more likable character than she already is and was in the book "Binding Bricks"
Debs and Sienna's attraction is wonderfully sizzling and hot.
It’s easy and with no hurry. I love them together.
But there are hurdles to overcome, ingrained fears to overcome, and habits to break.
No easy undertaking when you've become so used to it.
Past wounds and the lack of acceptance from one's own parents leave their mark on the gentle and sweet Sienna.
That's why she's always broken off any real connection quickly. It can be light and flirty, but better no commitment or real feelings.
That seems out of the question with Debs.
She's perfectly considerate, self-confident, incredibly beautiful and for some reason she likes Sienna.
Sienna can't explain why, but she can't resist either.
Another beautiful romance by Ami Spencer and I’m very happy about the ARC I was able to read. This is my honest review.

I loved to read about the love story between Debs and Sienna. Debs is so amazing and supporting and just what Sienna needs being almost completely crushed by her mother. Sienna falls for Debs from the very start but does not think she has a chance with the successful straight divorced mother Debs. Debs sees Sienna as a friend she wants to support in the beginning, but with time she realizes she feels so much more than friendship and for her that is no issue, Sienna is just what she wants in this stage of her life. They are so great with each other, and it all works so well with Debs children and their friends, and I really believe this is truly a HEA kind of story.

This was the first book I have read written by the author and now I want to read all books written by them. All mentions of Grace and Mica in this book make me realize that I must read Binding Bricks in a very near future.

Single Mom Debs is happy as a recent divorcee, except for her friends constantly trying to set her up on dates. Attending an event, she meets Sienna

Sienna is staff at the local Community Centre, one that Debs helped secure the location for. There for the opening, both women are drawn to each other.

Sienna thinks Debs is straight, and is unsure what a successful business woman would see in her. Debs is wondering if her kids will scare Sienna off and if Sienna is even into her.

(I like how Sienna's friend Max encourages her, as well as Debs friends. The side characters are fun.)

They get together and date, but Sienna is hiding something.. and it eventually blows up.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Secure Attachment, and I was very excited for single parent representation in this sapphic romance. I was a little nervous because I knew that the topics in this book would be on the heavier side, so while I did go in a little wary, I was blown away with the patience Debs had with Sienna. It is incredibly hard to run through life never feeling good enough, but it is also incredibly hard to love someone who feels this way. Debs patience and desire to understand and reassure Sienna was so touching to me.

This was just a wonderful story. Debs was amazing from end to end; From the moment she jumped in to help Sienna, through becoming friends, recognizing she felt more than that, and supporting and encouraging Sienna all the way through. It was wonderful that Debs was so casual about realizing she had feelings for a woman for the first time, and plenty willing to share with her friends, kids, ex, etc. I’m used to that involving way more drama, and it was a refreshing change. And again, Debs was just so wonderful with Sienna… hard to imagine any way she could have been better. Plus the friends were all fun; helpful when they needed to be yet with character of their own.

Kinda makes me wish we all had a Debs in our lives.

I don't know when people started to refuse to admit that they are lesbians, thinking that this label is unnecessary. Are labels such as straight, transgender, and non-binary important? Or is it only the label of lesbian that is not important?
I am frustrated by this, and more and more novels resist the label of lesbian, as if everything else is important except this label

Btw This story is so heartwarming, I cried

New Book GF Just Dropped

Great contemporary romance with themes of healing, self discovery, age gap, and life after loss.

Sienna is well written as someone not exactly broken but not exactly whole.

Debs is an absolute goddess of patience and kindness while navigating her own self discovery.

A book relationship that encapsulates this perfectly:

Even
After
All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth,
"You owe me."
Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the whole sky.
