About the author

Jennifer AlLee was born in Hollywood, California, and spent the first 10 years of her life living over a mortuary one block away from Hollywood and Vine. An avid reader and writer, she completed her first novel in high school. That manuscript is now safely tucked away, never to see the light of day again.

She has worked in numerous fields, including as a church secretary and as an administrative assistant at a cable company, but wherever she works, writing always becomes part of the job description.

Her first novel was published in 2007. Since then, she's published 11 novels and quite a few novellas with five different publishing houses. While she's thrilled to be living her dream as author, Jennifer considers raising her amazing son to be her biggest creative achievement.

She lives in southern Nevada with her husband, Nic, who is a hunky Englishman and the best cabbie in Las Vegas.

This was a sweet romance about a young widow meeting the second man of her dreams. Doug was actually her first crush when she was in high school, but when he rejected her, she turned to his brother. She loved Cliff, and grieved when she lost him in a plane accident. Now she's carrying his child and feels alone. Doug, who fled the family many years before, comes home and is shocked to learn his brother passed away. He turns to Whitney to deal, and they find their feelings growing for each other.

No surprises. Just lost of sweetness - and some humor (the door scene near the end had me laughing so hard I could hardly finish reading the book...)

This was a fun book to read. Lots of my favorite topics.
The author was able to take a sad thing, the death of a young woman’s husband, which was a different start to the book. I liked how she brought in the black sheep in the family, Doug. There is a lot of interaction within their family unit and through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. But this is not a holiday book just a heartwarming story of family and restored relationships.
think this is a first read by this author. But it won’t be my last. A library book so I will look for more.

I have nothing against religion, I admire people who find strength in their beliefs, but... I wish someone would have warned me this was christian-lit.

Not only that, but the storyline was utterly predictable. Even when Doug and Whitney were finally together, I didn't care. The dialogue was stiff, the narrative dull, the characters just a little flat.

And just like Whitney's unfinished painting, it needed a little something to finish it off. I just couldn't figure out what it was.
