This is a cute book. Despite the big "volume 2" on the cover, this is not part two of a continuing story from volume 1. It is a completely new story with the same characters. I have not read the first book in the series, but I understood the characters. They are interesting, but the story spent much more time on Bella than it did on Max. Maybe the first book focused on Max. I liked the mystery, but there were more dead people than I expected in a kid's book. Also, Dan, Bella, and their friends should all have been disqualified from the race for different reasons. It may not be fair, but they all broke the rules.
