Rate this book
Raya

I'm a woman who knows exactly what I want. But sometimes in the pursuit of what I want, I do things to hurt people. To me, it's worth it. Ace Taylor is worth it. Every lie. Every manipulation. Every scheme. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.
But anyone who comes between us? That's another story.

Ace
She's everything I could ever want. Smart, beautiful, accomplished, confident.
But something's off. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something lurking beneath that perfect exterior. Everyone's warning me. My gut is screaming at me to wake up. But I'm hooked. I can't let her go.
And the closer I get to her, and the more secrets I unravel, the more I realize...
This woman might be the death of me.

Raya was a very deranged female character; she was manipulative, essentially a female Joe from the television series "You," and she felt that her actions were justified. I believe that because of her trauma, she was just a damaged girl who wanted control over her life because of the cards she was dealt. Raya gets what she wants, and she has her sights set on Ace, and when I tell you that she was planning to get him through sex, manipulation, stalking, gaslighting, and murdering if it meant getting him.

Ace appeared to be the normal buttoned-up engineer on the outside, but inside he was a toxic, chaotic, superman-complex individual. In other words, Ace said that he needed excitement, and Raya kept him alive. I mean, Ace understood Raya's true self and was aware of the potential risks associated with being with her, yet he was prepared to go through with it in the name of love. And you know what? Hell yea, lol. I think it was refreshing seeing a man love a woman through all her craziness. I still think him wanting to "save her" and be her "safe place" made him stupid.

So I usually read dark romances, and this was one by definition. I'm not sure whether I simply read fucked-up or morally grey characters, but Raya was quite tamed on the scale of "dark romance." Seeing Black individuals in this light was interesting, and I liked what the author sought to do—it was a new type of traditional love. But for some reason I think something was missing and I wanted more

Raya is definitely giving "Hello, you" vibes a la Joe Goldberg. I've read several of Shae's books and I always enjoy them but I am blown away with this one because I can only imagine the depths it took to get into Raya's psyche. She is callous, manipulative, vindictive, unhinged and still I rooted for her IDC IDC this is fiction and she has been WRONGED so much by so many people, especially the ones who were supposed to care for her that I didn't mind the lines she crossed and baby? She crossed and double crossed them all.

Ace. He was interesting to me. On one side he's all put together, buttoned up, a scholar...engineer, top in his field but beneath it all he was just as unbalanced, he got off on Raya's shenanigans and dare I say thrived because of them? And while he may have to sleep with one eye open for the rest of his life that's the path he chose, right? And him and Raya's aunt in cahoots at the end, I didn't miss that part 👀

I read Call Me Mrs. Taylor in one day, the way Shae weaved the psychological with the drama, spice and unrelenting flaws of all the characters kept me turning page after page! Highly enjoyed!

Bookclub selection! I’ve never read a Dark Romance. Not really my Jam. However, the writing was excellent. Characters- Ace & Raya are very different from my normal flawed individuals. Crazy matching 😜. Both were missing affection and attention which they provided for one another. An entertaining read.

This is probably the craziest book I’ve ever read. Raya was certifiably insane in the brain, and she definitely met her perfect match in Ace. I’m gonna need a part 2 please and thank you because excuse me WHAT!!!!

Miss Unhinged Delulu meets Mr Low Key crazy making them the perfect match for each other in the most weird toxic obsessive deranged kinda of way. These folks were made for each other bc ain’t no way, ain’t no way my boy.

Slow start for me. Took a minute for me to really get into it. I had so many questions early on but wasn’t expecting the answers I got 🤔🤔

Anyways Ms Shae Sanders will always have a reader in me ❤️

If you write me a FMC that I love from the jump there is no way I’m giving you less than 5 starts. If you write me a FMC who is a legitimate psychopath, funny cause she cuckoo for coco puffs, and a MMC who falls for her because she is obsessed with him and deep down his fine self just wants to be loved then baby 10/10 no notes! This is the version of A Thin Line Between Love and Hate we deserved. It is dark, a little depraved, hints at some issues that may be trigger, and an absolute page turner. Because you have to know what Raya might do next. How is Ace going to respond? And can a love this unhinged be the real deal? I love the risk Sanders took writing this character. I love when Black characters get to be multifaceted, morally grey, messy, and not bound to the limits we tend to set for them. I loved the depth and complexity of the characters feelings for each other especially Ace’s. And the way Sanders navigated the harsh hurtful reality that for most women the great threat to us, are men and that isn’t limited to strangers. This is a well written and engaging read and I will be spending way more time in Sandersland for a while

“𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭, 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐲.” 🤯

Bell Biv DeVoe said a long time ago “never trust a big butt and smile”! Raya is poison but Ace failed to heed the warning.

Ok but on to the story… this is an obsessive romance and yes, Raya was obsessed with Ace for years before she decided to sink her claws into him, and that she did 😉

Raya was a bit touched, not to be played with and was dangerously in love with Ace and those feelings only accelerated after their first interactions. It was on and popping and Ace didn’t know what hit him🤦🏾‍♀️

I was highly entertained from start to finish. Seeing how aace succumbed to Raya’s feminine wiles was delicious! I laughed so much at things I probably shouldn’t have, but this was crazzzyyy! I live for deranged characters like Raya with unconventional romances (tho it was more sex than romance)

This is a perfect example of a woman who understands the power of the 🙀 being able to manipulate a man led by his penis. Lust drives people to overlook the blatantly clear and flashing red flags, confusing great sex for love. The sex was so good they couldn’t shake each other no matter how torturous they were together.

I can’t stop thinking about these hotter than Htx in August, insanely, out the box, no crumbs left Sex scenes!!!! The BEST! The way they slutted each other out?! DY-NO-MITEEE!!! ♾️⭐️!! 🔥🔥🔥

When I saw this author also wrote Take It, I was like, oohhh yessss… sis is a BEAST 🫣

I wasn’t too happy about some things that Raya started doing when things were working out well to throw everything off. Why then? It seemed a bit out of order. Raya was crazy but I wanted to see her get a little more savage, earlier on.

Overall, I loved this crazy book!! Keeping it on my nightstand!! Raya is my new alter ego!!

Ngl I thought about DNFing and coming back at a later time but things started to pick up and I got interested. I’m glad I decided to continue cause babyyyy I had a time reading this.

Raya was unhinged but that was a BAD
B!TC#‼️

What Ronnie said? “Sometimes you gotta use what you got to get what you want”. She unapologetically DID that.

Listen argue with ya mammie but I loved me some Raya. She had everybody panties in a bunch and ain’t gaf how you felt about it. There was a reason behind her shenanigans.

Ace was wrapped around her fingers & honestly he’s just as unhinged in my opinion lol. He loved that she kept him on his toes. He was the definition of “Imma stick beside her”.

I really enjoyed this. It had the right amount of suspense, some humor and some spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️. This was good 👏🏾.

Foolishness

From just a few pages in I could tell that I wasn’t going to enjoy this book and I wanted to DNF it, but I also wanted to see it through. I’ve seen it on Booktok and one of my book blogs and that’s why I decided to give it a try.

I’m not sure if this was really a “dark romance”, obsessive and weird absolutely. There was no real chemistry between Ace and Raya…we didn’t see the relationship develop, it was just a bunch of sex everytime there was something serious to discuss and then all of a sudden Ace was also in love too. For the entire book Ace led with his little head and was just a straight up fool. I felt like the book was also too long and kind of dragged out. I was sooo happy when I got to the end.

That's THAT'S what you call a get back!

Whew!!!! I don't know, Shae, but I think you might really be on to something. This story read like a movie! I loved every second of it. I was rooting for Raya every step of the way. I feel like she was a perfect fit for Ace because, honestly, read it for yourself.
I enjoyed reading an obsessive, unhinged female main character. It was different from what I've become accustomed to, and now I want more.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!! The story follows Raya, who is the kind of woman who knows exactly what she wants, and right now, that’s Ace. She’s totally convinced he’s the man of her dreams, even if he doesn’t know it yet. And she’s not about to sit back and wait for him to notice her, she’s ready to do whatever it takes to become Mrs. Taylor.

Now, Raya’s definitely a bit wild, but as you dive into her backstory, you get why she acts the way she does. You might not agree with her methods, but you can’t help but understand where she’s coming from. Ace, on the other hand, is head over heels for her, even though there are moments when you kind of wonder if he’s seeing the full picture, or if he’s just blinded by love, or maybe lust.

This whole book gave me major “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” vibes, lots of drama, spice, and some seriously unhinged moments. If you’re into dark romance, chaotic characters, and a story that’s anything but predictable, then you’ll definitely want to pick this one up!

In conclusion, they both need to sit on someone’s couch. I loved the fact that the FMC was the unhinged & obsessive character, which is not what we typically see. Ace is happy where’s he’s at and does not want/need to be saved.

I’m all too familiar with the unhinged MMCs but an unhinged FMC?? Sign me up

Raya did a lot of stalking, sneaking, and lying when in reality all she had to do was be herself and be honest about her past. Ace had a hero complex so she could’ve won him over faster if she had just started with that but I can’t lie; a lot of her tactics seemed to work.

I don’t know if she was the crazy one for doing and saying everything she did or if Ace was the crazy one for loving, believing, and adapting to it.

TW: Suicidal ideation, sexual assault, stalking, explicit sex
•••••
The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of Raya and Ace. Raya is a determined woman who will stop at nothing to secure the man she desires, employing manipulation and deceit to achieve her goals. Ace, captivated by Raya’s allure, finds himself webbed in a relationship that challenges his perceptions and safety. As their entanglement deepens, the story delves into themes of obsession, control, and the dangers lurking beneath passion.

This book?? A wild, addictive ride from beginning to end. The kind of story that grabs you on page one and refuses to let go. If you’re into intense emotions, complex characters, and a romance that leans dark and daring — this one delivers. It’s bold, edgy, and beautifully written with just the right mix of tension and temptation. It is dark, twisty and obsessive. It’s giving A Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Consider these edges snatched!

“I can’t shake the feeling that meeting her is the beginning of something.”

This is MY kind of dark romance!
The pacing was steady with each chapter snatching you into the delusion of the characters anxiously wondering where the storyline would go next.

-unhinged MCs
-chaos & mess
-multilayered characters
-family drama
-continuous twists and turns
-friendship x bonds
-relatable & funny banter

I waited the entire book for the other shoe to drop and it still ended in a way that I did not guess! This my first read from the author and I will be reading more.

I love a thriller with a female villain I can root for. Raya was beyond unhinged butttttt I found her antics and thought process entertaining. Ace was paired with her perfectly and I loved the realistic dialogue, suspense, and humor the author wrote for all the characters. The pacing of the plot was done very well and I never got bored with it. I could see this being adapted into a movie.

Ngl, I had FOMO and I knew I needed to read this ASAP
The opening sentence had me like 😮🤯because girl, where are we going with this? I like Megan 😂

This is one you definitely have to experience on your own. 😂

Sometimes you just set your eyes on what you want and go for it, right?! That's what society tells us to do with work, dreams, wants, etc. and Raya wanted Ace. He was hers from the moment his sister decided to be a keyboard gangster on a TikTok video. So whose fault is it really?

My girl was beyond unhinged when it came to her Ace but I knew I was here for her when she said "You have to tell men no sometimes. Stress their asses out." Because yes. 👏🏾👏🏾😂 #TeamMrsTaylor
I think I had too much fun with this one lol.

Call me Mrs. Taylor

I have read dark romance from other authors and enjoyed them, but this might be the first one that I truly felt was a dark romance because of the dark and obsessive nature that is Raya. Home girl was completely unhinged. She did not care about nothing and nobody but Ace and was determined to get him to love her and be just as obsessed with her as she was with him. She definitely succeeded with that.

There were several moments where my mouth dropped open from things Raya did or said and I found myself chuckling every time and had me questioning my own sanity. Raya was a complex character and went through a lot in her childhood. I found myself wondering had she been completely honest with Ace about her trauma once he caught her in her lies, if she could have got him on the hook a little easier and faster. Sometimes honestly truly is the best policy and it’s what Ace seemed to want from her because when he learned about some of her past, he wanted to do everything in his power to make things better for her. In the end, Ace was just as unhinged as Raya but his seemed to come from necessity of dealing with her and protecting himself. I also wondered if Raya had gotten therapy, if she would have been better able to cope and not be as obsessive.

I would highly recommend this book if you love dark romance and don’t mind seeing an unhinged FMC who is vindictive, obsessive, compulsive, a gaslighter and so much more. I really enjoyed this story and I honestly wouldn’t mind an update on this couple to see how things turn out after more time has passed.

Shae Sanders! Girl! What was going through your mind when you wrote this book??! I know it was your first venture into dark romance, but I need you to do it again lol. I need to know how Ace and Raya are doing years from now. I was hooked and had an attitude that I couldn’t finish this book in one sitting.

To sum up “Call Me Mrs. Taylor”, it’s like the lyrics to the song “Only U” by Ashanti but more deranged. Both of them MFs (Ace and Raya) need therapy. As soon as I finished the first chapter and realized what was going on, I thought, “Aww shit. This about to be some fuckery.” And it was, and I was eating it up.

Raya’s red flags were there—bright as hell with fluorescent lights—and Ace acknowledged them but chose to keep ignoring them. That’s when I knew this 🥷🏾 was out the looney bin, too. Curiosity killed the cat but in Ace’s case, it revealed he was just as crazy as Raya. And this 🥷🏾 was definitely pussy whipped.

Once Ace and Raya crossed the sex line in their relationship, them 🥷🏾s stayed fucking. It got to a point that I was like “gahhh damn y’all. I get it. Y’all are horny for each other.” 😂 Raya was down to do anything for Ace in and out of the bedroom.

Ace’s love language was definitely words of affirmation, and he wasn’t really getting it from anyone but Raya. Ace’s boys would hype him up, but Raya basically worshipped him. He craved her praises and loved that she was all about him. Ace also had a hero complex so when Raya’s brokenness was revealed, he was really hooked on her.

When Ace found out just how outta pocket Raya was and broke up with her, I knew the shit wasn’t gonna last long. There was like 40% of the book left by then lol. But besides that, Ace was too torn up about being without Raya, and Raya was determined to stay with her man forever. She was going to make that shit happen, come hell or high water. Once Ace admitted his love for Raya and stopped fighting his feelings, I was like “oh my boy is gone. He about to do anything for her”…and he did.

With Raya’s lies exposed, I thought she’d stop holding back from Ace. She did come clean about a lot of shit, but Raya’s trust in men is really fucked up so she’ll always have her head on a swivel.

If you’ve been debating on whether you should read this book or not, I definitely recommend reading it. Raya is something else, and Ace’s evolution is something I didn’t expect.
