I'm sure you are familiar with Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, but what about the tale of the other Snow White and her sister Rose Red?
An unnatural snowstorm brings a strange bear to the sisters’ cottage. The mysterious visitor stays with them throughout the winter, going out every day at dawn and returning at sunset. Unknown to Snow and Rose, the bear has been tracking down a pompous dwarf to break a curse placed upon him while lost in the same storm.
The arrival of spring brings more mystery and intrigue as the sisters cross paths with a prince in search of his brother, and the ungrateful dwarf, who does not appreciate the sisters’ help in his plight.
What will unfold when all five meet?
Tim Maddox brings the classic fairy tale to life in this charming adaptation filled with steadfast persistence, ever-lurking terror, and kindness both scorned and appreciated.
Tim Maddox has always loved the escape of a good story, whether that's from a western, high-fantasy, mystery, or just a good biography or historical piece. There is a seemingly perpetual need for more shelf space for new books. With that passion has come a fondness for creating his own personal stories. As time wears on, more of these have found themselves on various pages of paper or word documents. The first story to be published was Forest Flight in September of 2020. Outside of his job in engineering, Tim enjoys going to trivia nights, taking long drives to just think, playing/streaming video games, exploring his backyard in the Pacific Northwest, and traveling to new places. He lives in Hood River, Oregon.
I really enjoyed reading the alternate story of Grimms' Snow White, as told in Tim Maddox's version here. We all know "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" all too well. It's time to hear more about a Snow White and her sister, Rose Red, who are not born into royalty, but live a humble, hard working life, endure troubles and loss, and engage in a season of adventures that lead to love. Maddox keeps the reader engaged with various perspectives, relatable elements, and introducing fun twists and interesting characters. I particularly enjoyed the mischievous dwarf. Though he's an ungrateful little twerp, I could totally "hear" his voice in my head as he got himself into mishaps. I received an advance copy of the book for review. I don't read a lot of fairy tale or fantasy type stories, but I was able to stay hooked for the couple of days it took me to get to the end. Maddox is a good writer. I'd love to see him perhaps develop other lesser-known fairy tales and wedge us out of this mass production/multiple version releases of (big name) film regurgitations.
Tim Maddox has delivered a delightful retelling of a classic fairy tale! Each character is well crafted and we get to read snippets of the story from their POV. I especially loved the bear's character. There's adventure, magic, resourceful female leads, and sweet romance, which makes for an overall charming read. A tale for all ages, I highly recommend this book!
This book was amazing. The twists and turns throughout the storyline truly kept me reading. It felt like reading a fairytale when I was a kid. I didn’t think this book was a romance but I loved how sweet and innocent the love stories were.
Absolutely enchanting! I grew up loving fairy tales, and this one hits all the right notes while offering something new. Snow and Rose are beautifully written, and the mysterious bear had me hooked!
The writing is elegant and accessible." A perfect read for middle-grade readers and fairy tale lovers of all ages. The themes of kindness, persistence, and bravery really shine through!
A beautiful retelling with heart." Tim Maddox breathes life into a lesser-known fairy tale. It’s gentle, magical, and just the right amount of eerie. Loved the winter setting!
This was such a cozy, magical read. I felt like I was right there in the snowy forest with the sisters. The relationship between Snow and Rose is so tender and real!
