The bold, powerful retelling of a classic tale from The Twilight Zone.
Clinging to a desolate asteroid in the corner of a distant solar system is a small research facility, a lonely outpost of the autocratic Center Planet and home to only two beings: a human and an android. The close proximity of their work stimulates a myriad of new and passionate emotions between the two, and with the blossoming of an undeniable magnetism there quickly grows a fragile and dangerous bond.
As they traverse the nebulae of heart, mind, and soul, the pressures of infatuation, intrigue, protocol, and desire push to a breaking point... And nothing escapes The Center's watch.
“Gallagher beautifully and masterfully explores what it means to have a soul and to be human... A true work of art.” -Nyle Ajina, Editor

Novella-length SF robot-human love story riff on The Twilight Zone's "The Lonely" (but this is much, much better). It also reminds me of one of my favorite films, (2009) Moon with Sam Rockwell, which is another quiet, SF, psychological thriller. The narration in Ceres XIV alternates first person between "Him" and "Her." The highlight of the piece for me is the clinical, dawning awareness of what it's like to experience passion: liking, attachment, love, jealousy. And then there's a nice "ticking clock" and mystery to unravel - which I won't spoil! Brilliant.
I liked it. It was a very interesting love story that did not adhere to the stigma of "love stories" I am looking forward to the next instalment. Character development was thorough, element of mysteriousness is definitely there and it let me wanting to read more. Cliff hanger ending...always a nice touch.
