I read the English version. The story was a cute fantasy about a mouse that gives birth in a black birds nest while he is away. When trying to retrieve her umbrella she gets chased by a cat named Sly Tom and fortunately grabs a nearby balloon and escapes. The black bird ends up raising Babette the baby mouse who one day faces Sly Tom. The illustrations are simple and sketch like yet beautiful with lots of texture. Perhaps pastel was used.

Dramatic story about animals in Paris, a mouse child gaining confidence and learning who she is. Unexpected ending.
