The true measure of a person's worth lies not within what they can offer you but what you have to offer them. No matter how desirable, are they worth your time, patience, forgiveness, loyalty, friendship, love, respect, understanding, compassion, trust? If not, they are worth more than you have to offer. They deserve for you to let them go.
Charlotte Roberts and Augustus (Auggie) Caffrey may never have known each other, if it were not for William Caffrey. They would have simply moved on with their own lives without the anger and resentment that followed, when William fell for Charlotte almost six years ago.
Under the pretense of introducing Trace Delgado, her soon to be fiancé, to her adoptive parents, Emerson and Amila Roberts, Charlotte arrives back in her small southern hometown to personally collect on the forgiveness William promised he would give her if she ever returned.
Spending his days at the hospital with his brother William and his nights tending bar at The Dog House, Auggie knows it is only a matter of time before he loses the brother he has tried his entire life to protect.
When Auggie finds out Charlotte is in town, to no doubt torment his brother on his death bed, he wants her to stay as far away from William as possible. All Charlotte wants is to be forgiven and move on with a clear conscience. While, William's dying wish is to ensure the two people he cares about most step outside of their comfort zones and see that life is not as cut and dry as they think it is.
Charlotte's guilt and Auggie's brotherly devotion compel them to, secretly, follow through with William's last requests forcing them to begrudgingly spend time together. The more time they spend together, the closer they become. And the harder it is to keep what is taking place between them secret.
Late nights visits and stolen moments cause Charlotte to fall hard. But when a reminder of what brought them together stops Auggie dead in his tracks, he starts to question how far he's willing to go with someone who was his brother's first.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Charlotte is the story of a girl with a past that comes back home where tradition and family run thick and tight and there is no room for change or open minds. But before all is said and done, Charlotte helps open some eyes and the family grows a bit.
I love this story. Just like in Enduring Everything, I enjoy reading the family unity and all the ups and downs in a tight knit family, not to mention the small town way of living. The author does a fantastic job in all of her characters with each unique personality. Her main character, Charlotte, is so well written that you get lost in her story and feel all her emotions that she tries to hide. I was also impressed with Auggie and how he always stayed in true form to his character. The story is well written and once I started reading, I couldn't lay the book down.
I loved reading and watching the raveling and unraveling of the complicated relationship between Auggie and Charlotte. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. But my favorite part of the book comes near the end with Auggie's brother, Brandon.
This is a must read book and is now on my favorite list.
A beautiful love story about forgiveness, change and what happens when you face your past and allow yourself to heal and move forward. Charlotte is a girl with a past that was holding her back from so much good in her life. It’s only when she heads home to ask forgiveness of the person she feels she hurt the most does her life really change in a way that makes her look forward to the future. I simply loved this story as it was so real and honest; it is a truly beautiful story about love.
Charlotte is back to her home town so she can ask William forgiveness for her past mistakes. When she arrives, she finds that he is dying and he will forgive her if she honors his last wish: help his brother, Auggie, deal with his death. Auggie does not accept his brother’s death, but he will try to honor his dying wish: spend some time with Charlotte while she’s in town. Charlotte and Auggie can’t stand each other but, because they both loved Will, they try to get along. While getting to know each other and where they came from, Auggie and Charlotte end up getting close and create a strong bond between them, leading them to a relationship. They both know that nothing will come from their relationship because Charlotte is leaving soon, however, they end up falling in love for each other. Though, they are both stubborn and don’t want to admit their feelings. Will Charlotte leave when Trace comes back for escort her back to Spain or will she stay with Auggie and her family? Will Auggie admit his feelings for Charlotte and fight for her or will he let her go?
The characters in this story are great. Charlotte is one of the Roberts' adopted children. She suffered at the hands of her mother and that left her with scars, both physical and emotional. Because of that, she is very closed off and tries to keep some distance from people. A few years ago, she went to Spain to live with her aunt and she met Trace. They are in a relationship although they don’t kiss or have sex. He is very superficial and he is with Charlotte because she is beautiful and her family is very important. She was briefly involved with Will when she was seventeen but the relationship ended when her father found her in Will's bed, while she was a minor and he’s an adult. That made Auggie hate her. She comes back to ask Will is forgiveness while she waits for Trace to come back, ask her father permission to marry her and go back to Spain. However, when she starts spending time with Auggie, she starts letting herself be who she is and falls in love with him. Auggie hates Charlotte because he believes that she broke his brother’s heart. Although at first he’s reluctant to spend time with Charlotte, he ends up savoring their time together and starts falling in love with her. However, the thought of her being his brother’s first love and the fact that his family doesn’t like Charlotte very much, makes him try to stay away from Charlotte.
The story is amazing, very sweet and heartwarming. Loved to see Charlotte and Auggie finding themselves and falling in love for each other. Loved Penny! Hope to read her story soon. Hated Trace. Has very superficial and a jerk who thought he was better than everyone else.
This book was very well written and I think the writer is very talented. Hope to read more of her work soon!
At the end of Enduring Everything, a scarred and sad young woman is given a second chance to live and grow as she is sent off to Spain...away from her adoptive parents and some bad memories. Charlotte begins when she returns to her small town, almost "engaged" to a selfish and over-bearing piece of work, and under the guise of introducing him to her parents, she is left to wonder if this (he and she) is what she really wants. On top of this dilemna, Will (the man she was infatuated with as a teen and who now lays in a hospital bed deathly ill) wants to ask a last favor of her and thus begins a long and very winding road to love, redemption, heartache and forgiveness. Auggie, Will's brother has felt nothing but anger and "hatred" for Charlotte ever since she became involved with him as an underage teen, and has blamed her for causing so much drama and bad feelings between their families. As we know, there is a thin line between love and hate and that line is stretched and crossed and ripped open many times before this book finally reaches the final conclusion. This was no fast forgive and forget love story...nope...it was a slow simmering sensual tale that was as much a witty game of cat and mouse, as it was a seriously sexy seduction. I absolutely LOVED the little dance these two performed (although I got a tad frustrated and wanted to yell at them to just get on with it already!) and really fell in love with the characters as much as they did with each other. Another really interesting and richly layered addition to this series about families intertwined and the ghosts of past sins that try to play havoc with future happiness.
***** 4.5 ***** "uncovering the scars inside and out" stars
I love this book. Probably one of my favorite contemporary romance novels and you know I don't even like romance. It was deep and funny and I wanted to kill the girl's boyfriend the first time I met him. I never met such a jerk. I mean damn, the author can kill character if they want to, this book is probably the first one making me wish that the reader also had such power.
Charlotte is not welcome back to town. Everybody knows everything about her, right, she is so bad... well maybe not, maybe they are all wrong and trust me you really want to know. As you spend time with Charlotte you realise that appearance don't really matter. And the very hard part is that you can't hate the other character for what they believe and for their action, not because they are justify but because that's what makes them humans. Except her boyfriend you can hate the bastard, please someone kill him for me.
The entire story is obviously character based and the characters are really three dimensional. All of them have a past and a present and a history together and on their own and this makes the book totally magical. Reading this book is like entering a really soft family drama like in any really tight family. It's delightful.
Charlotte only came back to town to honor a friend's last wish and to try to make amends for the pain she had caused in the past. Trace traveled with her from Spain, was there to see she arrived safely and that she did not do anything foolish before he headed on to his own destination. He made her feel like such a charity case. That he was only asking her to marry him out of pity. After all, who would want a girl with scars and an unstable past? Auggie didn't want to say goodbye to his brother. It hurt way too much. But he had come to accept that the time had come, and that he must honor his dying brothers last wish. What had come over William? How could he think Auggie could ever be in the same room with the woman who had shamed his brother? Let alone get to know her? He knew she was engaged to a rich snob, and that is all he cared to know! But Caroline and Auggie loved William too much to let his last wish go un-granted. So get to know each other they would. Even if it killed one of them! But would the attraction they felt for each other be enough to overcome the misconceptions of youth?
I just finished reading Charlotte by M. Sembera. This book is fantastic and I enjoyed it immensely. It is truely a romance story. It is about Charlotte and Auggie. What leads up to their meeting and being together. Their relationship begins as a promise to Auggie's dying brother but in the end it develops into something so much more. As you read it you are right there with them and can see and feel the love. The other characters are so much involved in this story also. There is arguing, love, togetherness, family and a little bit of everything. I look forward to many more books from M. Sembera. I gave this book 5 stars but I wish I could give it 10+. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
This is a really good book! It's my first by M. Sembera, but it definitely will not be my last. I really came to love all of the characters in the book and I enjoyed the family dynamics. Charlotte is the prodigal daughter returning to her home town for a short visit before she is supposed to be getting engaged. Auggie is the brother of one of her childhood friends. She is not welcome by very many people when she arrives, least of all Auggie. The author brought you through all of the twisted paths of the life that led up to her leaving town and also her return. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Ok, I honestly LOVED IT!
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this one. It was an easy ready that had likeable characters. There is no cliffy which is always a plus . There is also enough interesting side characters that I'm sure we'll be seeing more of Charlotte and Auggie in future spin offs. There were a few things that I felt could have been touched on a little more around Charlotte's past and why she moved to Spain, but all in all it was really cute. I give it 3.5 Stars and look forward to what this author will bring with the next installment.
This is the story of Charlotte Roberts who is the adoptive daughter of Emerson and A. Roberts. A beautifully written and developed novel with no plot holes. With unparalleled characters that are realistic with real emotions and flaws. I love the authors unrivaled writing style. A compelling love story that will keep you captivated. I highly recommend reading this novel as you will not be disappointed. I voluntarily reviewed and advance reading copy of this novel.
So happy for my ARC copy! Getting to know Charlotte better after reading "enduring everything" was such a treat! I really just loved the ride. Once again, M. Sembera does not disappoint with another great love story!!!
This book was the best story about love. It shows how one request can change someone's life completely. Also that just because a person goes through things and is classified different by others doesn't mean they aren't worth loving.
A fabulous book. I found it difficult to put down. A dying wish throws Charlotte and Auggie together in a relationship that goes from hatred to love. I cannot wait to read more of the Marked Heart series.
Such a bad...girl...or was she? People of all ages can be evil when spreading nasty, unfounded rumors about others. Charlotte escaped to Spain because of just that, but now she is back! William is sick again, and Auggie still hates her...fireworks ahead...keep reading!
I am so in love with these characters and with this series! I have waited to see how Charlotte would do in Spain and I was so glad to learn she was doing well all tho I do not like her taste in Spain men lol!!! Great book!!!
I love it!! One I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I love Charlotte and Auggie Story. It's amazing book. Oh definitely recommend everyone should read it
Charlotte is back to visit an old friend who is dying to make amends. Being back there could cause problems but she can't wait to get back to her life with Trace, her soon to be fiancé. Their relationship is of convenience so she doesn't have to have feelings for someone and worry about them hurting her. But Trace likes perfection and her scars are anything but perfect. Author can't believe she would come all the way back here and disrupt everyone's lives and hurt his brother again after breaking his heart years ago. But between the promise both of these characters made to William on his death bed, they now must spend time together and make an effort.
Starting out, the story was written sort of unedited. Not that there were spelling errors but like they were writing for a middle school paper. But as the story progressed the writing became infinitely better. And the story really drew me in. I loved that after a hated relationship they learned to slowly get along and come to care for each other. Even though both had a lot to make up for and they were acting childish they grew on me. The little things they did for each other was what made me keep rooting for them.
I didn't like Charlottes immature behavior and teenage antics and I didn't like how Auggie automatically had to be a jerk to her. And Trace. Don't get me started on him. How she could stand him enough to consider a proposal was beyond me.
At the end of Enduring Everything, a scarred and sad young woman is given a second chance And grow as she is headed to Spain away from her adoptive parents and some very bad memories. Charlotte begins when she returns to her small town, almost "engaged" to a very selfish and over-bearing piece of work man and she starts to think about her live. Auggie, Will's brother has felt nothing but anger and "hatred" for Charlotte ever since she became involved with him as an underage teen, and has blamed her for causing so much bad feelings between their families. As we know, there is a thin line between love and hate. So what will happen? i did enjoy this book I hope you give it a try.
