Taelyn Astoria Smith is the baby girl of the Washington, Christianson, Smith dynasty. Sheltered living and timid decision making has caused her to put herself in harm’s way. After a traumatizing incident, will she ever gain the true understanding of who she is to understand how it feels to be loved by a man? What happens when a journey of mental wellness turns into a pleasurable ride of love?

Poor Taelyn was suffering something serious, although she would never admit it. Kevin's punk ass did a number on her, and she is feeling all the repercussions of his actions. To make matters worse, her family is smothering her, let her tell it, when all they want to do is make sure that her mental is healthy before she goes back into the field. When she experiences a rough bout of night terrors that harms her physically, the men make the call that she is to see Dr. Carlton "Draco" McMasters to help aid in her healing. Well, damn! Dr. McMasters may heal more than her mental with his fine ass!
I have admired, and swooned over many male characters over the years, but chile I loooooove Draco! The way this man carries himself with confidence, with intellect, and maturity, with all that BDE dripping, fearless, and how he clearly and firmly communicates had me feeling a way! 😍🥵 Yes Draco, I understand sir! 😘 His practice and working for Christenson Enterprises keeps him well paid, and busy, but he is ready to love again. When Taelyn walks into his office, he knows she is the one. He knew that her family would be on him heavy, due to her previous relationship, but that was light work to a man like him.
Taelyn was a bit intimidated by Draco, but he also intrigued her. This was a grown man, and she was all in with getting to know him. The way Draco handled Trell Smith Sr. cracked me up! The good doctor stood his ground at every turn and was not going for that bs that Trell was doing to try and scare him away from his woman. 💪🏿 Enjoyed how we met Tae just where she was in her journey, and how her presence still means so much to her family. Baby Tae done growed up and got her a real man! 🤣 Good read. 👍🏿👍🏿
This production was well worth the wait. The story of Lynn and Draco surpassed everyone's expectations. A true testament to pushing through the pain and trauma of your past to kick open the door to your future Do You Understand 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
BIG DRACO!!! Whew, Dr. Draco was pressure and all man. He was everything that Taelyn needed. He played no games at all. Grown man, and the way that he communicated. Do you understand will never be the same for me.
Who knew 3 words could be such a turn on? Draco McMasters is not to be played with! He was the perfect man to take Taelyn on, cause marrying into the smith family is a challenge…this book was funny, sexy, witty, and just fun!
Big Draco not the little one. He wasn’t playing. Mega’s book didn’t fully explain Draco lmao. He turned into Mega. This my wife. Baby Tae didn’t stand a chance.
It was just ok for me. I’m not really a fan of instant love stories though. From Day 1 Draco (MMC) applied pressure & claimed her as his. I would have liked to see Lynn (FMC) put up a little bit of a fight about. He was very alpha and I loved his straight forward communication & his inability to be rattled by outsiders wanting to dictate how he moved in his relationship. Lyn, definitely gave sheltered little girl vibes (for her to be damn near 30). I would have loved to see more of her character development. If I were to read any of the other books in this series it would probably be Mega’s book because he was giving me Cappadonna energy (IYKYK).
I am head over heels for this story. Jacob was a man just the perfect man. I'm with Taelyn on this I swear being asked do you understand has never been sexier. The way that that man was like this is my future wife let's expedite this relationship had me sent. I'm even mad at it because when you got BDE there's no explanation needed. After everything that happened to Taelyn in the first book the fact that she didn't close herself off to love was great, that trauma def could have been stifling. she was still very much open and she knew she made mistakes in keeping that dumbass around but she still wanted to find that person who was for her and by Hell did she find him. The relationship that she had with her mom even though you know she had that mental illness was still so beautiful because it goes to show how close the relationship was. I'm happy that that's also something she was able to work through in her therapy, I know that can't be easy To witness apparent you're so close to have to go through that. I just absolutely love this book everything about it was f****** immaculate.... Even down to the part where Draco had to punch Blair's plus 1 in the f****** face, You really said aint nobody gonna raise their voice in my s***.
Chiiiiiile, if no one else understands, I DO Dr Draco. This man was the epitome of intellectually intelligent and emotionally aware grown man YUMMMMiness with two extra sides of BDE. And while big age difference storylines typically give me the ICK for every reason Trell detailed, for some reason, it didn't bother me as much with these two. I rooted for them from the first "Do you understand". Like Mega's second book, this book highlighted the importance of getting the help you need for mental wellness, especially after a traumatic event. And although it was a bit glossed over after the love story became the focal point, there was continued mention of Taelyn doing the work. What was heartbreakingly beautiful was how Tae's dementia was also a focal point of this one. In the momemts she was lucid, my heart both smiled and broke, because as an OG Mel fan, I remember when Tae and Phy cut up and caused havoc with Mont and Trell and to see her this way had me so emotional. I am still mourning Phy, so I am not ready for Tae to completely no longer remember. Overall, this book touched on so many things but the main storyline of BIG Draco loving and claiming his wife was top tier.
One thing I will say is that Mel Dau is good about writing trauma and making you feel that pain. As a nurse myself she's great at writing the dementia and the effects that family members feel with their love ones. With that being said some things stood out to me. Here it says Yaffa and Khiaere are married although he and Yaffa both agreed that they wouldn't when he said he'd have no other wife but Phy. I don't know how that was overlooked when to me it was a significant part in their story. Also I don't understand how Kevin got killed but Gibby after all the horrific shit he did not only lived but got a hea ending at the end of Tana's story. What was the purpose of that??? That shit pissed me off to no end. With that being said I did love seeing the family again. Idk why it was added maybe to show that Draco is a good therapist but Mega and Ruth having trouble still communicating in this late stage of their marriage just felt completely off and unnecessary in this book. Trell is funny as hell. I love him and Tae together. They truly are chef's kiss.
This book was such a great read. Draco fell for Taelyn the first time he laid eyes on her. Draco was an educated man but he could pop off as well. He was coming behind Taelyn 100%, and he didn't care who stood in his way including her whole family if need be. He was very intentional with his pursuit with that grown man energy. Taelyn was there for everything because Draco was who she wanted as well. I felt for Taelyn as she was going the emotions dealing with her trauma and her mother's health issues. It was great to have characters from previous books show up in the book specifically Mega and Dem. As always, there were humorous parts of the book that took me out especially the drone and anytime Mega opened his mouth. 🤣😂😂 This book kept me interested from beginning to end so I highly recommend that you pick it up as well.
Beautiful!! Draco is definiteli pressure! I love hw he knew wht he wanted, didn't waste time wit it either. lyn needed him, he was ja wht the doctor ordered, i love hw draco came behind taelyn when dealin wit the males in her famili, he didn't bck dwn he was definiteli on his grown man! The communication they both had was awsome, it clear and direct and they made sure each other understood each other! I love it! Blair was a trip and tae nipped tht in the bud when she saw hw blair got dwn and draco peeped it too when she tagged him in her post, tryin to b messi🤦🏾♀️.i love the famili dynamic and hw they cater to tae's mom's condition and the connection taelyn hve wit her twin brother neziah, beautiful name by the way. Aww.. babi draco and babi zoie! Like always mega was hilarious 😂 i love him😂 Draco is on mi book hursband list lol🤭
Draco is by far my FAVORITE book bae. He is a complex man with more sides than a two dinner. He is a doctor, lover, and a killer. He moves with purpose. He is unapologetically blunt and he takes no shorts. I love everything about him. He loved Taelyn from the minute he met her. He knew that she was his wife. He had a hard time convincing her family, but they soon caught on. Taelyn was the baby of the family. She had gone through a traumatic experience with Kevin, so her family was overprotective. However, Draco proved that he was the Man.
Mel Daughter, gurrrll, you my dear are a pen pushing Maven. You better write these books!!!
I can ALWAYS depend on Mel Dau to bring a story full circle and not the time btwn the releases, the characters are so memorable, you don’t have to go re-read a book to follow, unless you just want a refresher!!!… Love me some Draco and I love how it let it be known, he knows his wife and he was going to let not 1 family member think they are to scare him off!!!… Taelyn definitely got the man she didn’t just want, but the one she needed because all her feistiness would run over the next man!!!… It wouldn’t have been a complete read without a Mega appearance and him talking to the Big G for one thing or another!!!…And with a sprinkle of Trell and Tae too!!!…
After the prelude of this book, I didn’t know what Mel Dau was going to do with this story but baby she did her big ONE with it!!
Draco and Taelyn’s love story was simply beautiful!! After everything Lyn went through in her previous relationship, I thought she was going to fight Draco when he said he wanted a relationship but she didn’t. He knew when he saw her she was his wife and he was just what she needed in a man. He was her father and loved her the way her dad loved her mom.
Seeing her deal with her mom’s illness was rough but in the end she knew her mom loved her.
And my best friend was in this book acting like the fool he is.
I always say I’ll keep at least one book from an author I really like on my bookshelf—my way of not hoarding a ton of books I probably won’t read again. For Mel Dau, I was sure that book would be Mega Man. That is… until I read Do You Understand?
I absolutely devoured this book in less than 4 hours. When I tell you I ate this book up—no crumbs left. The way this man was intentional about what he wanted and actually communicated it? Whew. That alone secured this book a permanent place in my collection.
This is the kind of book I can see myself rereading a couple times a year. It was that good. It hits emotionally, mentally, and yes—🌶️ for my spice girls, there’s definitely that too. And of course, a lil’ Mega sprinkled in for good measure.
When I first experienced Draco in Megan's last book I knew he would be PRESSURE... This I didn't expect. I didn't expect his loss, I didn't expect none of it, but baby when he saw Taelyn - he instantly turned into Mega. I loved that everything and I mean everything Draco did was with intention and I loved it. He said, this woman is my wife! Lyn didn't stand a chance, but from their first meeting she knew she wanted this man - even after all she'd been through. I just love when everyone gets together because it makes me think about their stories and how they got to where they are. Y'all this is a book you don't want to miss, so scootch in for an amazing read. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
Hmmm, an interesting 🤔 yet peculiar union, a Ladybug & her Psychothug. “Do You Understand? (Understood - Book 2)” quite honestly no I don’t 🥴. …sounds condescending & degrading to me but if Lyn likes it, I love this for her🤷🏾♀️‼️ However, when someone articulates & demonstrates to you there character (who they are when no one else is present), please believe them 🤦🏾♀️🫣‼️ Draco ain’t stable. “Lyn, baby, I’m a very tolerant man, but you need to know that your ni&$a is one part intellect, one part lover, one part crazy & the rest killer.” 👀🤨😬🫣⁉️ Yup, my huzzzzband a procreating K-i-l-l-e-r‼️
Do You Understand was an interesting read that followed a short novella introducing Taelyn and what she experienced in her previous relationship. Fast forward to book 2 where she meets Draco and they both experience an impactful first meeting that changes everything. Although there were a lot, like a lot of mentions of people from other stories, which made me realize I had missed out on a whole series of books. Needless to say I filled in the blanks as much as I could ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ without going back to read the others, so in that sense this was a standalone - at least to me!
There is nothing like a professional crash out. From the moment Draco started listening to Mega, I knew things were going to get out of pocket. Draco knew from day one what his end goal was going to be and he stood on that 100%. He allowed nothing and no one the room nor did he give them permission to get in the way of getting his woman. Pretty Girl went through a lot and although she didn’t agree with their decisions, she had the support of her family to push through. I loved this book and I loved Draco and Pretty Girl together. Mel Dau never disappoints.
10 stars! I love a good Washington/Christianson/ Smith book! The babies are having babies!! And I know Baby Tae needed an unhinged man to handle her! And she got just that! I mean Mega is his friend. 😂. This was a great love story. My take aways- wait for the love you deserved- you can find love again - take your mental health seriously- family over Everything
Again! Ms. Dau brings it home again with this one! Draco was super bae! His quiet and dominating demeanor was just what Taelyn needed. And Draco was just what Trell wanted for his daughter. A man he could respect and knew was going to take care of his daughter. Loved how TaeBae lived on Taelyn. Clarity shining through when Taelyn needed her mother’s presence. Great read!
Now if you read Mega Man then you should already know how Big Draco coming!! He’s just as crazy and unhinged as Mega!! lol When a man knows what he wants he goes after it until he gets it and Draco did just that!! As man speed bumps as he endured he kept driving the car with his woman in the car with him. Taelyn didn’t know how serious he was about but once she realized it, it was all gas no brakes lol It was said you want your man a lil fool only if it’s about you though. And Draco embodied that!! He didn’t play about his baby and I loved every minute of it!!
I loved Draco and Tae!! The thing I love about Mel Dau’s men is that they are intentional with how they love their women ! Draco was emotionally intelligent and knew how to handle Tae and her somewhat overbearing family . Tae and her mama had me in tears because to feel as though you have lost a parent when they are still alive is a feeling not may can relate to . This is just beautifully written !
Not to be confused with the little one!!! Ha! Dr. Carlton Draco McMasters is BAE! And stood on all the business! Whew! Taelynn really deserved all the love Draco gave her, so glad she got her HEA! This was another great real, Mel Dau does not disappoint. Oh and we got popups from a lot of our favs! Not to spoil anything, but you will need to have some tissues handy. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna make through Chapter 3! Whew. 10/10!!!
The 180° that Taelyn’s life made after meeting Draco was everything! I need me a Draco in my life! Make me understand!! Lol I love Taelyns family and how sensitive they were about her mom having dementia. I loved Draco’s family for the acceptance and love. I also loved how Draco claimed her and she didn’t think twice about it. Also, f*ck Blair! Glad she got her karma! This was definitely a 5 star read! I loved everything about it.
Mel Dau, as always a great read. Being a reader I always love to see families that grow. These families are some of my favorites. Dealing with my mom I applaud you for giving Trell his lifeline. I understand how the children feel, it's a hard thing to watch. I love Lyn. She has grown into a caring young woman. When I say Draco was it hands down in my opinion he was. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I'm so happy with Draco and Taelyn's love story. Just knowing the history of this entire family and group of friends and their businesses makes this even more sweeter to read. Draco stands on business all the time. I really like that about him. Taelyn (Lyn), she's tough and soft at the same time. Draco is perfect for her. This story was so good. As always, it's my pleasure reading your books 🥰.
