The brain does not pay attention to boring things!

In our attention economy, it’s more important than ever to cut through the noise online. In Viral Voices—available exclusively in audio—Carmine Gallo, author of the bestseller Talk Like TED, provides tools to succeed in our digital world and tactics anyone can use to grab attention and keep it.

Gallo breaks down how effective communicators from Mr. Beast to Barack Obama inspire their audiences and craft stories that stick in the mind. Through exclusive interviews with business leaders, speech writers, and influencers such as Richard Branson, Guy Kawasaki, and Nancy Duarte as well as clips from historical speeches and the most engaging online videos and digital content, Gallo shows that ancient principles remain highly relevant for influencing people today, even across modern platforms. He also demonstrates how we can bring classic tools like the three-act structure and “beats” into the future as we navigate the implications of artificial intelligence. And, backed by psychology, listeners will learn how to overcome the fear of public speaking by understanding how the human brain works.

Viral Voices will give even the most timid of speakers the tools to transform their ideas into unforgettable moments, the skills to influence people, and the ability to craft and deliver content with confidence—online and offline.

Narrated by the author, this audiobook unpacks timeless persuasion principles through audio clips from icons like JFK and Warren Buffett, blending the ancient wisdom of Aristotle’s ethos, logos, and pathos with modern YouTube and TikTok tactics.

Gallo stresses that while communication tools may evolve, human brains have’t (“the principles of persuasion haven’t changed, only the platforms have.”) He draws from John Medina’s Brain Rules, TED’s storytelling commandment, and Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, offering a clear 3-act structure (setup-conflict-resolution) with spark lines to hook audiences. Examples from MrBeast show its universal fit for emails, LinkedIn posts, or reels, always ending with a vivid call to action that lingers 48 hours later.

Production issues mar the advance copy: repeated audio clips, overlapping narration, and awkward pauses—hopefully fixed for release. The content delivers time-tested strategies, researched and packaged neatly, sparing you the legwork.

I was interested in this book after reading "Algospeak" which also touches on how we comprehend viral videos. I thought that there was a lot of great information, but there were some people that I don't personally support who were glorified in the book.
All in all, it was an interesting read, and it was nice to have an ARC.
