A boom town; new and raw and wild. A place where contracts are solemnized with a handshake and disputes are settled with a gun. There is gold here and some men mine for it, while others steal it from those who toil. But when the outlaw’s war of plunder and killing takes the lives of some of Tom Satterfield’s friends, he declares his own private war on the entire outlaw breed, and shows them what one fearless man can do when he is pushed too far.
C. M. Curtis brings a background of diverse experience to his writing. He grew up in a small western community in cattle ranching country. His paternal grandfather was a wild horse hunter in his youth and his maternal grandfather is said to have actually met Butch Cassidy. Curtis' first paying job, at twelve years of age, was in a slaughter house. He later became a construction worker, a truck driver, a structural steel welder, a coal miner and a licensed building contractor.
In what he calls his second life, he has been a chiropractic physician, a radio talk show host, a newspaper columnist and, of course, a writer.
Ibenjoyedvtgevbook, but did not like the way so many storylines just appeared and disappeared in just a fewvpahes. I enjoy a good western and this was.... but at times it was just very jumbled. This author is good, so will try another book to see if the storylines are better managed.
Characters are interesting, as well as the main plot and subplots. This book made me feel like early life in the Rockies really could have been similar to this story. Well written with no editorial errors. I highly recommend this book.
Tom Satterfield and Lily Clark meet during an ill-fated coach ride through a dangerous mountain road during a heavy rainfall. Tom is fighting a range war. Lily is new to town and trying to start a new business. They are both nice people who are always willing to help others, and both have many good friends who like them. Daisy is vying for Tom's attention, and Joe is trying to marry Lily. Tom is shot a few times because he has to fight off rustlers and men squatting at his ranch when he goes into town to conduct business. He finally decides to fight back and comes up with a brilliant plan.
I got this book to read because I like western. I was happy to find this to be a story along the lines of Louis L'amour and that is a good thing. The story has a good plot and the characters are believable. One thing that I found to be refreshing is the hero, Tom Satterfield, has a fist fight in a saloon and doesn't win don't see that happening very often. If you are looking for a good story with a western theme then by all means give this one a try.
do you. have to be halfway? smart or is it the truth.that you are right and you can not do it yourself .so you plane with the help of friends to right the wrongs. we all look inside self.to find the right.
I haven't enjoyed a western as much as I have of this one. Right from the start there was action. Different characters came into the story, but the hero Tom was the shining example of how the was won. A really good story and well worth the time to read it
I can visualize such actors as Steve McQueen playing the role of Satterfield in a movie based on this book or even Kevin Costner. Very good descriptive account of the "wild west".
This author writes a very good western that makes you care about the characters. He also is very creative in his twist and turns. Highly recommend his books, as every one I have read is interesting, well written and a great read.
Impressive handling and development of characters--heroes, villains, and all manner of folks in between. Motives were very believable. An enjoyable read!
