Vicious Vows is the second book in Jade's Cruel Empire, an age gap, enemies to lovers, forced proximity mafia romance series. This story picks up where the first book ends. Please note, this series should be read in order.
We met Marchello Accetti and Lissia Gallanti in Ruthless Oath. Lissia, the mafia princess, and his rival's daughter, continues to frustrate Marchello more than he could ever imagine. While she should be well aware of the dangers of their lifestyle, she remains impulsive and reckless. She allows her heart to lead her, and even though well-intentioned, she always manages to find trouble and bring it right to Marchello's door. He should throw her out. He should send her back to her father, but he knows what would await her, and he cannot do that to her. While he won't admit it, he has fallen for her, just as she has fallen for him. He accepts her as his responsibility but trying to get her to understand the dangers, and to mind her mouth, is nearly impossible. He has made multiple, varied attempts which always fail. While she tries, she always thinks her approach is best.
Lissia continues to try to find a path forward which would prevent her father or her lover from killing the other, but peace is not possible for these two men. Marchello has no choice - he has to end Gian Gallanti who is a threat to his family, his livelihood, and his love. The man keeps causing trouble for the Accettis and wants to take over their territory. This is war, and only one can remain standing. Hopefully Marchello can keep Lissia out of the crossfire.
There is no denying the connection between Marchello and Lissia, each willing to do almost anything for the other. Theirs is a very passionate relationship. While I too get frustrated with Lissia's ignorance and thoughtless behaviour, I appreciate her fearlessness and her fire.
Love is about accepting people for who they are, and not wanting to change them. I can see Marchello slowly leaning that way, and learning that he cannot change Lissia. He needs to embrace what he sees as her impetuousness, and appreciate her spontaneity. If the two could learn to work together, they'd be unbeatable!
Jade leaves readers eager for the third book, Dangerous Intent. Who will be left standing? Will there be a HEA ending for this sizzling couple? Will Nico be able to return home? Will we learn the identity of the Accenti's matriarch murdered? So many questions remain and I'm keen to learn the answers.
This series is definitely a page turner. Captivated readers, such as myself, struggle to wait for the next release. Fortunately, that shouldn't be too long.

It’s been a long time since a main female character has managed to frustrate me as much as Lissia does in this book. While she’s undoubtedly matured since the first installment of the series, her impulsive and reckless nature remains front and center. The only difference now is that her decisions are driven by her love for Marchello—though even love doesn’t seem to rein her in. Her persistent naivety about the brutal realities of the mafia world, and the lengths ruthless men will go to for power, is nothing short of astounding. Lissia’s well-meaning attempts to broker peace between her father and Marchello’s family only fan the flames of conflict, and her blind faith in her father’s ability to see reason borders on maddening. Meanwhile, Marchello is grappling with the growing realization that nothing—not logic, threats, or passion—can stop Lissia from following her heart, no matter how misguided her actions may seem. His world is spinning out of control as he tries to juggle the chaos: his father’s continuing absence, the war with Lissia’s father, and a high-stakes deal with the Argentinian cartel. Lissia brings out emotions within him that he thought he would never feel. Feelings that puts her life and his life in danger - his weakness. Marchello loves her with all his heart, his body and his soul. She brings him to life and gives him reasons to live! Marchello and Lissia’s relationship is best described as a match that brings the fire to life. They bring each other to life ♥️ Lissia presses his buttons like no other and she is impulsive. Marchello worries about being able to protect her, not just from others but from herself. Note, it does end on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for the next instalment …..

From page to page, chapter to chapter, I could not put it down - you will metaphorically be on the edge of your chair! Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

In Vicious Vows, Marchello has taken Lissia back. After her escape attempt to try to mend things between him and her father, he no longer trusts her. He is treating her again like his hostage. He is being more cautious around her and does not want her near his business but also needs everyone to see her by his side. He still wants his father home but he needs to be careful how he goes about it. Now it is a bit more complicated because he has fallen for her and wants to keep her safe. However, he needs to prove to everyone he is not weak because he has yet to retaliate against her father. What will he decide?
The main characteristic Lissia has is that she is so stubborn. It doesn’t matter how many times Marchello tells her he doesn’t want her help she is too pig headed to listen. She’s impulsive and her actions have consequences. She doesn’t care in the moment but she doesn’t know how her defiance affects Marchello and his family. He has finally had enough and tells her if she doesn’t listen she is free to go. She is too reckless but she wants to be with him and can’t help but want to protect him. Will she finally let him resolve his own conflicts or will she keep causing trouble?
Ella Jade dives deeper into the mob war between Marchello and Lissia’s father. We see Lissia struggle with the decision to do what Marchello says and what she thinks is best for him. Captivating continuation of Lissa the Mafia Princess and Marchello her Captor
The interactions between Lissa and Marchello have continued to grow they are both unable to keep each other hands of the other and Lissa has actually told Marchello that she has fallen in love with him and his domineering actions which all demonstrate how deeply he cares for her.
The nightmare that was forever to change the young man of barely eighteen years of age was his beloved mother being killed along with his next sibling. Even after all these years they are still looking for the individual that ordered the hit so that retribution can be dealt out.
Lissa’s father had actually decided that a hit on the two men at an evening out and as she had been standing between Marchello and his brother Milo she had been hit by a bullet intended for them, the shooters having being caught had evidence on them showing it had been her father’s hit men as well as his inept attitude that had nearly cost her Lissa her life, this was a mistake he ensured would be repaid in full, in blood.
As the couple continue to live as normal a life as possible it is apparent that Lissa has had a profound impact on Marchello, he is actually starting to believe that he deserves to be happy and to have a woman that adores him and also possibility of possibly having a family of their own,
This is a wonderfully written story and I do not want to spoil it for others so will say no more about the outcome in their search for their mother’s murderer.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Coming off the events of Ruthless Oath, Lissia is still the ultimate brat in not listening to Marchello. She wants to do everything possible to help & please him, but she's too stubborn to stay out of her own way. Of course, he's too stubborn to realize he may just need her help.
Things escalate when 1) his family is attacked and 2) she runs off thinking she knows best (AGAIN). The attack, and the aftermath, do force themselves to admit their feelings to each other finally. This makes things worse with her dad.
And, Danny is still the absolute worst. This man needs to go away, and I hope Marchello dispatches with him quickly...but I have a feeling things are going to get much worse first. /sigh
I loved that we had more character growth throughout this. Book 1 was more of a getting to know you and I appreciated the deeper dive. I also appreciated him finally realizing caging her is never truly going to work.
Just as with the first book, there is a cliffhanger, but it's nothing major that will upend your world. It's a very natural spot to prepare for what is to come in the next book. I desperately want to see a HEA in the next. They keep going through SOOO freaking much - when is enough enough?! Thank goodness I already have the ARC for the next. 🤣🤣🤣

I loved that we had more character growth throughout this. Book 1 was more of a getting to know you and I appreciated the deeper dive. I also appreciated him finally realizing caging her is never truly going to work.
Just as with the first book, there is a cliffhanger, but it's nothing major that will upend your world. It's a very natural spot to prepare for what is to come in the next book. I desperately want to see a HEA in the next. They keep going through SOOO freaking much - when is enough enough?! Thank goodness I already have the ARC for the next. 🤣🤣🤣

I loved this continued story about Marchello and Lissia! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is not a standalone story. In order to fully understand the story you need to have first read book one, Ruthless Oath.

This one starts just after the first one ends. Lissia's lack of awareness of the dangers that come with Mafia life still grate heavily on Marchello's nerves.
She has put him into more precarious situations than he cares to admit, but he still can't bring himself to set her free to face the fate her father has planned for her.
With his father still away from home dealing with the cartel problem, Gian Gallanti making moves for revenge and acquiring more territory and a rogue arms dealer out for blood 'Vicious Vows' will have you on the edge of your seat!
And let's not forget to include the growing relationship between Lissia and Marchello that is both simple and complex at the same time. Such a great continuation! I read the first book and then this one back to back and was so happy with it! There is no loss of steam for not only the momentum of the book but also for the chemistry of these two leads. The story was exciting and there is back and forth and was I frustrated with our H at times? Of course! But he clearly loved her and it was exciting to read along.
The danger is still real no matter that he took his so called hostage back. Only it's now also to his heart because he can't imagine being without her.
Writing, excitement, chemistry... There is everything here. Also danger is never far from them and conflicts and friends and foes mix together to keep this story flowing. They have a high heat level! Wow, these two are so steamy good together. And it is emotional as well. When they discuss the feelings they have for one another? I was just tense wondering how that would even go considering his family and hers. I loved this and I absolutely look forward to more from this author!

Vicious Vows was quite suspenseful and a page turning mafia romance. I was quite literally on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this remarkable book. Author Ella Jade continues to prove to me what an incredible author she is with each book that I have read by her so far. I’m looking forward to reading more amazing romances from Ella Jade in the future. Vicious Vows is beautifully written, well balanced with action and romance, and perfectly executed by Ella Jade. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. I absolutely adored getting to know the main characters Marcello and Lissia. I immediately fell in love with both Marcello and Lissia and I absolutely adored witnessing their story come to life throughout the book. Vicious Vows is a definitely a book which I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who is looking for a suspenseful mafia romance book to read.

I am beyond frustrated with Ella after this book, but only because I want to know what happens between Marchello and Lissia after the way the book ended. I am glad that I already have book 3, because I can read it tomorrow. I am so into these characters' stories that I am able to finish these books pretty quickly. I just hope book 3 ends in a HEA.

Even though I didn’t fully vibe with the main characters in the first book, they’re really growing on me in this one. Lissia means well and does everything out of care, but she can be so impulsive and naive at times—it’s frustrating but also makes her feel real. And Marchello? He’s definitely winning me over with how devoted he is to her. It almost makes the possessiveness and controlling behaviour okay.
Their growth, both individually and together, is so well done. They would do anything for each other, but their relationship is still so toxic and explosive at times. With their families being rivals, will they ever truly make it work? And don’t even get me started on Collins and Gian… How could her dad do this to her?! I need answers!

VICIOUS VOWS is Book 2 of the Cruel Empire series. It's a steamy, enemies-to-lovers, kidnapping, forced-proximity, dark mafia romance. We continue the saga of Marchello, the hunky and arrogant mafia prince who is trying to bring his father home, and Lissia, a bratty mafia princess from a rival family. In book 1, Marchello kidnaps her as leverage, and the two develop feelings for each other. But being together will start another war. Feelings grow in Book 2, we are still looking for Dad, and Lissia is still a brat. I love Marchello, Lissia, not so much, but I still want an HEA for this couple. We end on a cliffhanger and can't wait to read book 3.

After what happened in the end of the first book, you would think Lissia learned her lesson and luckily Marchello is not giving up on her. Tensions are still high between her dad and Marchello and even though Lissia tries to mitigate between them, there is no peace in sight for any of them.

This is the second part to Ella Jades the Cruel Empire Series and wow it’s just as good as the first book. The story continues with lots of twists and turns and I read this one so quickly. I’ve read lots of other books by this author and this is not as dark as lots of other but the storyline keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The characters remain true to form and even the side characters are well written into the book enough that they could be given their own story. I’ve already downloaded the third book to read and will be starting it straight away.
This book and the first are a must read for all fans of dark mafia romance.

We're back with Marchello and Lissia in Vicious Vows and it picks up where Ruthless Oath left off. Vicious Vows is absolutely fantastic! Lissia is getting out of her bratty phase (somewhat), Marchello is keeping her in check (somewhat). Lol.

The second book in this trilogy is just as captivating as the first. Marchello and Lissia are still butting heads, Lissia really is good at pushing his buttons, but they have so much chemistry and they burn up the pages with their passion. The Accetti family is still trying to regain their standing, and it seems every time Marchello and Milo think they have the situation in hand Lissia somehow manages to "help" and messes up their plans, it is almost funny how she is so naive about how her father operates his business. This book ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the third book to see how it all ends.

Lissia and Marchello’s story continues with more impulsive behavior from her and his attempts to curb her dangerous tendencies. She’s matured and recognizes her patterns, but she wants to help and for everyone to live peacefully. Their relationship is volatile, spicy, and emotional! Lissia must face some hard truths about her family and Marchello’s responsibilities. I enjoyed the growth of their relationship, his acceptance of her exuberance, and her unapologetic behavior. The cliffhanger leaves on a note of huge significance for their future. I can’t wait for more of Lissia’s sass!.

As they fight to adjust to their bond, threats and challenges emerge. Lissia’s ex-fiancé, Collins, still hiding in the shadows and interfering with Marchello’s business dealings. Trying to keep their father’s business and territory together, Marchello is once again stuck with a hard decision between his family and his love for Lissia. This book was so much fun to read! The plot twists and constant threat of danger around every corner keep you wanting to know what happens next. Absolutely action packed and full of some fun spicy scenes!

The story continues…Lissia needs a few lessons on listening and minding her own business, but her love for Marchello shows. Over the past two books, she hasn’t had any character growth, but I’m hoping in the next one she comes to an understanding of what her life is and will become. Lissia and Marchello’s story is captivating, but as I said in my review of Ruthless Oath, it is oh so frustrating. Their story keeps drawing me in, and I can’t put these books down. I’m definitely rooting for Lissia and Marchello, and I can’t wait to see how the next part of the story plays out! I definitely recommend this book. This is the fourth Ella Jade book I’ve read, and I haven’t been disappointed yet!
