Psychology professor, Peggy Oster, plans to spend her summer break watching classic sitcoms and reading her stash of romance novels. Instead, she wakes up the first morning of vacation in a strange dimension where all the residents look as if they've been chosen for their roles by a Hollywood casting agent. Xandro never planned to be wizard; he wants to be a chef. The inept mage can cook a perfect soufflé, but his magic spells leave a lot to be desired. Still, he's not ready to relinquish his court position when a fiery-haired young woman shows up at the castle gate. Can this couple set aside their differences long enough to rescue the royals, who have been abducted from the throne room? If not, Peggy will be stuck in this strange world with no way to get back to Kansas. Where are all the ruby slippers when a gal needs them?
Trouble in Paradys was the second book that I have read by this author and once again it was an enjoyable read. The world that the author created comes alive in a colorful and entertaining way and the characters are funny, well developed with each of them having a back story, inner struggles and strong voice throughout the book.
When I first started reading this book, I assumed what most will that it was a story about a college professor in today’s world. Once you get a bit further into the book however; you go on a fantastical adventure with the lead character, Peggy as she is transported to a land similar to our own but yet filled with parodies.
While the land is similar to our own and like our own filled with problems, it is also home to a cast of enchanting characters including a royal court, a handsome wizard, a sweet stable boy and a hilariously entertaining “catling” named Meyau that will have you laughing throughout the book.
Together they go on a journey to a nearby kingdom to hopefully locate some missing royals and maybe for Peggy’s sake, find out how and why she has found herself here and most importantly how she will be getting back to her normal life.
Stephanie did a very good job of writing this story, it is a fun read. Most likely it will take you a chapter or so to get into the story but once you figure out who is who things tick along nicely. I am looking forward to getting lost in more stories by this author in the future.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review which has been stated above.
