Toluwanimi, a Christian lady with a playful persona, falls in love with a man she met in the comment section of a social media site. While navigating this new relationship, she gets into trouble, gets hurt and an insecurity she’s harbored for years comes to light. Soon, she finds herself at a crossroad, between 2 life changing options. Will she make the right choice?
First of all, there must be a punishment for keeping a book on your TBR for too long. And the punishment should be this: 👉 the ability to read the book again without remembering the first time, because WHY has this book been sitting on my TBR for months?? Dang.
The first chapter intrigued me. By the second chapter? I was GONE. I finished this book in one day.
Now, let’s talk about these characters.
Dare. Ah.This man had me praying dangerous prayers: “God, I see what You’re doing for people and even fictional characters… Baba God, run am for your daughter biko.” 😭 Honestly, I was lost for words. Just like the FMC said in the book ; you don’t really think men like this exist. Men like this feel unreal, and don’t get me started on his bromance with Patrick, so beautiful!
Toluwanimi. First of all, I love the name (it’s my older sister’s name, so obviously I’m biased 😌). I especially loved the way Dare always called her name in full. I so much love her, her friendships, her relationship with her mum, her growth. I deeply related to her insecurities; it’s something I’ve battled with for years, and seeing it portrayed so honestly meant a lot to me.
Bimpe. What a friend. Watching her shift roles in Tolu’s life; colleague, friend, gist partner, counsellor, and sometimes even a mother figure was such a joy. Their friendship was wholesome and beautiful to read.
Tolu’s mum. A typical classic African mother, but with a sprinkle of self-control and steeze. Perfect combo.
All this to say I enjoyed this book so much. It was emotionally satisfying, engaging, and beautifully written. I enjoyed every bit of it and highly recommend it.
