The highly anticipated third novel from Edward Mullen...
Working as a stock clerk in a small-town grocery store only served as a constant reminder that Ben Owen’s life was meaningless. After a series of devastating events stripped him of everything he had, Ben hit rock bottom. To swing luck in his favour, temptation beckoned him at every turn. He had the opportunity to regain not only what he had lost, but so much more. But Ben soon realized everything he gained came at a price.
At its core, The Secret Manuscript is a riveting tale about a broken human spirit triumphing in the face of adversity, by any means necessary.
Edward Mullen is an author, blogger, and podcaster from Vancouver, Canada who is perhaps best known for his debut novel, THE ART OF THE HUSTLE and his techno-thriller series PRODIGY.
Born and raised in beautiful British Columbia, Edward developed a love for the wilderness. This love, combined with an innate curiosity about all things, eventually spawned a healthy imagination for storytelling. He continued to follow his natural passion all the way through to university. Despite spending a lot of his time indoors writing, Edward continues to enjoy the outdoors. He is an avid tennis player, mountain biker, snowboarder, runner, and traveller.
I signed up for Goodreads with the sole purpose of giving this author some support. He deserves every bit of it. The Secret Manuscript is very different in terms of subject matter than the first two novels he is known for (The Art of the Hustle, and Prodigy). Mr. Mullen is perhaps one of the most diverse writers of our time and had he written books like this in the 50's, he would undoubtedly be celebrated as one of the world's very best to ever do it. And he's just getting started!
The Secret Manuscript is full of twists and turns and page-turning mystery. On one of Edward Mullen's podcasts, he mentioned he deliberately kept the back blurb of the story vague and I want to respect that too. This review is more to praise his writing without disclosing any of the plot details. I really like The Art of the Hustle and have been a fan ever since. This is Mr. Mullen's third novel and it did not disappoint. It is very intriguing throughout and ends with a bang.
Highly recommend this book, as well as the author.
In the middle of the book I wrote that I don´t know what to think about the book. Now at the end of it I still don't know what to think about the book. At the one hand I don't like the idea of destiny and not having free will and on the other I like the idea of time travel and the fact you can do everything over again. Well I think I have to sleep on it before I could tell you how I feel about this book. Nontheless I think it is worth 4 stars espescially because I don't know what to think about it
Really good book with an interesting premise. It definitely held my interest throughout, but the last half is where it really kicks into high gear. Highly recommend this book as well as this author.
I gave this book a 4 star, the only reason is I normally do not give 5 stars .......... it is very good, written in a kind of funny story with a serious background.
