On the The Lucky Shamrock ~ Book One.
Welcome to the Lucky Shamrock Bar, where your troubles be less and your blessings be more.

Callum

I was happy running my family bar and cruising through life as a single guy, enjoying an abundance of fast women, hard liquor, and good times.
Life was one big party until it took a turn. Reality struck, and everything changed when I lost my beloved da.
Losing a parent is never easy, but mine left me with an added legacy, one I didn’t want... a huge debt owing to a Mafia boss and no way to pay it, but then I was offered a reprieve in the form of Maeve Monroe—archeologist, bookworm, nerd, and the last girl I’d ever commit to.
I believed I could carry on as I always had, unaffected and unbothered, until my cute little wife turned my world upside down. It took her no time to charm her way under my skin, and I went from wanting nothing to suddenly wanting everything.
Now, my bachelor ways have come back to haunt me, and I risk losing the one woman who ever meant something.
Will Maeve forgive my sins? Or will I need all the luck of the Irish?

1. So, the way that Callum showed “how deeply” he “respects” Maeve was to humiliate her by telling all his friends that he didn’t want to marry her, that he only did it because he was forced to and that he had almost f*cked her sister and kept it from her? Nice.
2. I am absolutely loving the way that Maeve is freezing Callum out after she found out that he had $ex with her stepsister and kept it from her; I just hope it lasts and she doesn’t turn into the typical spineless doormat.
3. It didn’t last. 🙄
4. “Titties”? Ewwww. 🤮
5. Before Callum and Maeve were married, she was described multiple times as “socially awkward” and “so socially inept” that she “made people uncomfortable”. However, after they got married, suddenly she was “charming” and her “charm, wit, and intelligence” and “special way she had about her” made her so “invaluable” and such an “asset” to him and everyone fell in love with her the first time they met her. 🤔
6. This book had such promise for a good grovel after Maeve caught Callum inappropriately touching Saskia, but the speed at which Maeve forgave him with his pathetic excuses and the bare minimum of an apology totally ruined the book for me.
7. *Had a $exual encounter with h’s stepsister and didn’t tell h. Strike one.
*Got caught touching his ex-f*ck buddy inappropriately. Strike two.
*Didn’t tell his wife that he only married her because he was forced to. Strike three. You’re out.
8. Maeve said, “Even though our marriage was on the rocks, he was honest about Beth.” He knew that she was standing right behind him and overheard the conversation; of course he was honest about Beth. 🙄
9. All he had to do was buy her some expensive books and that proved that “he was trying to do better”? What do expensive books have to do with him constantly lying to her?
10. I didn’t like that there were NO repercussions mentioned for Saskia and Shannon.

For the most part, I liked this book. I laughed a bit, and the romance was sweet. Some things made me scratch my head. Maybe I’m just nitpicking 🤷‍♀️ because, honestly, I did enjoy the book. (Possible spoilers ahead)

These are just some random thoughts.
H’s POV mentions many times how he sleeps with all the women and never twice. Well, nope. He slept with Sassia (or however her name is spelled) several times. Beth showed up at 80%, and he
had previously slept with her MULTIPLE TIMES. Hell, even from his POV it makes it sound like he actually had feelings for Beth. He even ran up and hugged her.

This whole part just bugged me. At this point in the book, H and h are separated. H has been "depressed" because of it. He knew his past hookups, along with his lies, caused them to separate. I just don't get the point of bringing up another hookup who was "gorgeous" and the complete opposite of h. It wasn't h who stopped him in his tracks. ugh

it wasn’t Maeve who stopped me in my tracks but another woman entirely. Bethany Tucker was the cousin of Carl. She lived in Nebraska, and I’d known her since we were both seventeen and we lost our virginity to each other one summer when she visited him and his family. Beth was nothing like her cousin. She was blonde, leggy, gorgeous, and sexy, with big green eyes and a wicked sense of humor. She was the only repeat I’d ever had, and the only woman I’d ever considered making my girlfriend.

Another huge yuck. h's stepsister Shannon. HE HOOKED UP WITH HER PREVIOUSLY. And she was his cousin.

Back to Sassia- he let her rub up on his thighs. Didn't do a dang thing to stop her. If h hadn't walked in and caught them, I'm not so sure he would have stopped her. Sassia was his employee and a woman who was his fuckbuddy. She was fired a couple of days later. eek

They are broken up for 2 months. So he does grovel for 2 months, kind of. How the heck did he afford all those expensive books he was sending her?

I was sad that the author didn't do much with h's education/smarts.
And I have a hard time understanding how a 28-year-old woman who is that smart/educated is putting up with her awful family. Or how she's still a virgin.

I just love this book.
It was Irish mafia but not.
It was mc but not.
It had ow drama but not really.
It had fairytale vibes but it wasn’t.
It had unrequited but not really.
It also had overheard hurtful words
And arranged marriage
Super smart fmc
No doormat

I felt the emotions and I fell in love.
At first it seemed to be moving a little fast but after reading it, I think it was perfect. I just loved all the side characters and the whole premise. It worked. Even having allll the tropes it still stood out and in a believable way. I just loved it.

Not for me… the H is probably the dumbest H I’ve read in awhile. The h acts younger than her age. I don’t think purposely either, it seems she’s very shy when it comes to men.

On The Rocks was an enjoyable arranged marriage romance with a couple that I was rooting for and had an overall light and enjoyable feel to it.

Calum was the kind of character who had an inner strength and strong morals. He was an outwardly confident and very loyal individual who held his family and friends in high regard. But he often retreated into himself and dealt with his troubles and problems on his own, scared of coming clean of his wrongdoings through fear of what that could mean. I did really like Callum as a MMC and enjoyed learning more about him but it’d be misleading to not say that initially I thought he was an arse and it is a quality that cropped up a few times throughout the book. I could see where he was coming from and if I was in his shoes I’d probably have the same reaction if I was told I needed to marry someone not my type and who I hardly knew; but the way he spoke about Maeve initially didn’t sit right with me and his role in the other women drama and the keeping of secrets was less than desirable. These thoughts were enhanced by how the reader is made to feel for Maeve from very early on and whilst I did like them together there is a part of me that thinks he wasn’t good enough for her.

Maeve was a ‘wore her heart on her sleeve’ type of character. Whose social ineptness meant she failed to see that her intelligence was intimidating not something which made others uncomfortable. She was a very compassionate and loving individual whose sweet nature meant she was often taken advantage of or thought less of. I loved her sassy and sarcastic nature which allowed for her to stand up for herself almost immediately when it came to Callum but again, it’d be misleading to not mention that she was at times still, for want of a better phrase, a doormat. It is not something I hated about her as it fit with her characterisation and history and owning who she was and standing up for herself was part of her character arc but there were times when I felt she was too soft and she needed to push back against other characters more.

Both Callum and Maeve were manipulated into an arranged marriage and they didn’t get off to the best of starts with some big secrets remaining between them. There is no denying that Callum became protective of her quickly but it was an awkward situation that they agreed to continue with as an arrangement of respect and camaraderie. I found the romance development to be subtle initially as the book focused on the development of a friendship whilst romantic feelings simmered unconsciously. To paraphrase one of Callum’s brothers Maeve was described as the kind of girl who you got to know then suddenly realised you were crushing on and that is exactly what happened. I enjoyed seeing them navigate a friendship and then the subsequent romantic feelings once Callum realised he’s put himself in the friendzone and then wanted more. There was an enjoyable amount of tension building in this part of the book and it was fun to see the high they got from the anticipation and fleeting looks. It was never an easy journey and they had plenty of highs and lows but I think they both grew and developed as individuals and as a couple throughout the book and they were one who I found myself rooting for.

When it came to secondary and tertiary characters there was a mix of some who we were meant to like and others that we were not. I hadn’t read a book by Ford before this but I am definitely interested in reading more because I loved the MC members and their partners. The characters, who are obviously the focus of the Speed Demons MC series, were the best kind of riot and I loved the multiple personalities and sense of camaraderie between them and the characters who are going to be the focus of this series. Callum’s family were characters I would definitely read more about and the world building that came through the secondary characters added a lot to this book. When it came to secondary plots there wasn’t a lot. This book is about Callum and Maeve so any secondary plots impacted them, sometimes heavily. What there was never felt like it was thrown in for the sake of it with the same to be said for the book’s potential triggers and it did all come together well to make an overall well developed book. Though one thing I noticed about this book was that it had a lot of ‘almost this but not’. Namely there was an Irish Mafia family conflict that never went far. There was an MC and the storylines you’d associate with it but it wasn’t prominent. There was Cinderella retelling vibes but this wasn’t that. I don’t think this was a bad thing as it added some enjoyable elements to the book but there was something about that I can’t quite make up my mind on.

Overall this was an enjoyable book that I think has started this new series off well and for my first book by Ford certainly has me interested in reading more by her. I’m glad I picked this one up.

Whether you're #TeamMaeve or you adore the #FeckinEejit, this book grabs hold of you from page one and exports you back to Hambleton for the story of the eldest O'Shea brother and his bimbling efforts to navigate his way through a life change he wasn’t expecting. Yes, Jules has now set her sights on bringing to life the Irish bar owner and his family, who we met briefly in The Speed Demons MC series.

There's plenty of fun, laughter, tears, angst and frustration to keep you turning the pages, and the supporting characters, many who you've met before, played their roles perfectly.

But I'm here to give a huge shout out to Eejit's wife, Maeve. The glasses wearing, ginger haired Ologist (yes, his mam is proud to finally have an Ologist in the family) who stole her man's heart and never gave it back to him. She's funny, compassionate, loving, and so feisty that she really keeps him on his toes. Now, all he has to do is stop being an eejit long enough to see just how wonderful and perfect for him she is.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride. You won't regret it.

Well done, Jules. STUNNING.

OMFG I absolutely love Callum and Maeve's love story. I'm glad you kept it light rather than dark because It had everything a great book should have, sadness, laughter, seriousness but most of all it had a great sense of love that's needed for every great love story. There was so much pressure on Callums shoulders and Maeve really came into her own and excelled as a character. I kept wanting to slap Callum with a wooden spoon the feckin eejit. Jules you really hit the nail on the head and really brought the Irish out in your characters it was like I was standing here talking to them myself, I really felt like I was part of the book because everything that was said was exactly how we would say it here. You brought a tear to my eyes with your beautiful words in your acknowledgements and I will say 100% yes, yes you did them all proud and I am also proud to call you friend. I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us next. I just know it will be great. It you haven't read Jules book I highly recommend you do and hang on for the ride. leabhar iontach (Fantastic book)

The title should be “I’m a fecking eejit!”

OMG!!! I loved this book so much that I am so disappointed that I have to wait for the next book in the series.

Seeet, sweet Maeve with the heart of a warrior. You sure made Callum work for it every second and that is #girlgoals. A couple of times in the book I would’ve preferred more violence, especially towards Maeve’s sisters and their mother, but that is not what Maeve is about. She dealt with them in her way which was perfect for her. One could just feel Maeve’s bubbly personality on every page and with every interaction she has. Then there is the “eejit”, Callum. He is doing everything backwards and just doesn’t listen to sound advise…lol. It usually ends up biting him in the backside, but Callum is no quitter and throughout the book you see his love for Maeve grow more and more.

Omg where to start 😜😜😜😜😜

So new series and it’s the turn of the Irish ☘️

Callum O’Shea, next in line to take over his Da’s place as the head of the family and to take over the Pub, gets some disturbing news in the reading of his will……

Maeve (Toots) has a lot to be grateful for her ‘replacement’ father Patrick Doyle, but so dislikes her ‘new’ sisters and their mum…….

When Callum and Maeve ‘have’ to get together we’ll see a lot of laughs and also a lot of tears when ‘feelings’ start to get involved

AND The Speed Demons are apart of this making this the most AWSOME book to date!!!!!

Team #feckingeejit Team #toots 😜😜😜😜😜😜

A MUST READ NOW!!!!!!!!

A new series and what a start!! Callum is.... well....an eejit for a lot of the story lol. But I really just wanted to give him a big hug and take him as my own by the end of the story. He totally is a fantastic hero and although he makes some mistakes, he really makes up for it. Our heroine Maeve is an incredible woman. She is quite the opposite of Callum but by the end of the story, she has really flourished in her new surroundings and I loved her growth. The story is a bit angsty at times with all the drama, but also with the steamy angst lol. There's lots of emotion and some great scenes with some old friends.

Best love story ❤️❤️❤️

Jules Ford has knocked it out of the park with this love story ❤️ Callum and Maeve’s story is one that started out for the wrong reasons and they went through so much to get their happy ending. To have the Speed Demons be a big part of this book was awesome and the KOAMC is going to be awesome! Callum will warm your heart when he realizes if he doesn’t pull out the stops he will lose his heart. Maeve is not the standard beauty she is the best kind because she has put up with a lot from her adopted family and still puts everyone above her. Sometimes arranged marriages can be what makes you whole🥰

Oh lord, this book was an amazing continuation of the O'Shea's that we meet in Speed Demon's MC series. Callum is a fecking eejit (IYKYK) through most of the book but has an eye-opening moment that really makes you fall in love with the fact that he is a fecking eejit. Maeve is a sweet woman who puts Callum in his place over and over, she doesn't take sh*t from him. I so enjoyed reading her character arc and growth throughout the story and loved the HEA both of them got in the end. I hope their babies are red-haired, smart, and not fecking eejit's like their da.

Oh my heart is so full at the moment, this book was the sweetest, most romantic story and it touched my heart like no other. I absolutely loved Callum and Maeve’s story ❤️❤️❤️ It was definitely a bit of a Cinderella fairy tale, with the wicked step mother and two nasty, vindictive step sisters, our poor Maeve suffered at their hands, until Callum and OMG I lost my heart to them both. A definite page turner and very entertaining. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed 🍀🍀🍀

I absolutely loved this book.
Although Callum frustrated the life out of me you couldn't help but root for him and Maeve was such a sweetheart.
I was delighted the Speed Demons were in the book and I forgot how much I loved Atlas and when he said he was making Maeve a mix tape I lost it 😂.
I'm Belfast born and raised and you got it spot on Jules Ford when you were describing our wee city in the 70's but thankfully we have turned a corner and our now a thriving buzzing beautiful city that people love to visit.
I can't wait to read more, I'm hoping Donavon is next.

Awessome

I rarely give five star reviews but this book deserves nothing less. I wanted the O'Shea brothers to get their own book, and this book is WOW. It is well written, as all of Jules Ford books are, and it is a wonderful story about mistakes and redemption. You will not regret reading it. Plus there is the laughter that comes alone whenever you have the Speed Demons involved!!

Since reading the Speed Demons MC and being introduced to Callum and his family, I've been excited to read this!

I found myself transported back to Hambleton and felt like I never left. I loved getting to read about the eldest O'Shea brother and his bumbling efforts to navigate his way through a life change he wasn’t expecting.

Callum and Maeve's story is filled with everything you needed- drama, sadness, laughter and seriousness. Jules Ford brought out the perfect amount of Irish out in the characters to have this girl hooked.

Maeve had much to overcome from her childhood and her upbringing. Her relationship with Callum brings out what she had been hiding during her younger years and living with Patrick and the evil females. She made Callum work for it- and rightfully so after he showed how much of an eejit he was.

I cannot wait for more in The Lucky Shamrock series because I need more of the O'Shea men!

Lovely Romance

Maeve and Callum were some wonderful characters. This book was really well written and showed a side of Callum you didn't expect. This book had love and betrayal. An unlikely duo who end up finding a common ground and it was just the sweetest.

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I was disappointed in Maeve. I understand all of her reasonings for what she did but I wish she grew more in the story when it came to being nerdy and extremely intelligent but I feel like that was back burned. I wanted her to continue with her professional career but I know why she switched to focus in the bar. It was just a bit disappointing to me.

Jules always does a great job of making you love her characters and she did that with Maeve and Callum. Atlas is to die for with his humor and Tristan is my all time favorite side characters. Those two add something to the story and it's always positive.

I just feel sad for Maeve.

This book left me feeling slimy and gross, and a bit heartbroken for Maeve.

Callum is forced into marriage with Maeve after his dad basically ties his hands with the reading of his will. Maeve is the adopted daughter of his father’s cousin- who is in the Irish Mob. She is horribly abused by the evil stepmother and stepsisters. And right off the bat I was heartbroken for her because they decided to lie to her and tell her that Callum ASKED to be married to her. The humiliation just continues over and over from there.

This is a girl who is a genius- an archeologist and brilliant, but naive. And constantly described as ugly and awkward. Callum is initially cruel and dismissive, definitely making it known he has zero interest in a woman like her. In fact, at the first dinner after their engagement is announced, he walks away from her and lets her evil stepsister paw all over him. Oh- he also had a sexual encounter with the other stepsister- who is his COUSIN- and keeps that a secret. Of course, he’s a man whore too, and has his regular fuck buddy around to rub it in Maeve’s face too. And gets caught in a compromising position of course. And an old flame pops up later. *Aside: he goes on about never being with the same woman again, yet has a regular long term fuck buddy relationship with his skank employee Saskia - who also banged his brothers- AND the ex girlfriend Beth (who pops back up later to make sure Maeve suffers the whole book) was also a frequent fuck buddy again after her divorce.

Is there a grovel? Why bother? Poor Maeve lost her parents young, was adopted by the man her father works for and then abused and degraded mercilessly by the women in the family, so she’s happy for any scraps she can get. 🙄 she’ll be the doormat and let him get away with it all without any real effort on his part. I applaud her for actually kicking him out and meaning it. But even though they were separated, she still was doormatty and even made excuses for his behavior. I appreciated the MIL calling her out for it.

I will concede that after the split, Callum was crushed and felt bad. And actually when he started to send her all the books and the quotes he picked to go with them- it was admittedly a great gift. Probably the best part of the book , but still too little, too late imo though. He may have developed feelings somehow for the ugly mouse he never wanted, but their relationship was built on lies and him being an asshole to her in the beginning. TBH if I could cut the first half of the book out and redo it differently, I’d love their ending. I loved that she made him wait months for her, and didn’t just give in right away. But I honestly can’t get past the other parts. I also rolled my eyes at him rewriting history, saying he’d always wanted her and desperately wanted to get to know her. 🤮🤮 Sure, Jan.

Maeve deserved better. After a lifetime of suffering, I’m angry that she’s forced into a lifetime with a man who is such a POS and continues to perpetuate her suffering and humiliation. Her wedding was ruined, the huts just kept coming, and the moment she thinks she found happiness she learns it was all a lie. 😭.

I love that she had the newfound relationships and support from the MC guys and the women, but I really wanted her HEA to be what she deserved. And the guy at the beginning of the book is NOT it.

I’m the usual party pooper here.
Yes, it’s not that bad, the hero is not evil or cruel and he doesn’t purposely hurt the heroine… but he’s very lacking all the same.
He has to marry the heroine or he loses his bar, his late father’s bar.
She thinks he married her because his mother insisted and her adoptive father offered, not that he was forced to do it.
The hero is a bit resentful, even if he knows she doesn’t know anything about it, but her adoptive father made her look like she had a secret crush on him forever.
She is kind of nerdy, and plain.
But she very smart and an archeologist.
After the wedding she finds out he had a bj from her stepsister some time before, long before they were even engaged.
They’ve know for years, but they never interacted, so I wasn’t annoyed that he had a life before her, because they didn’t meet frequently.
What annoyed me was that she was a 28 yo virgin, which makes her a pushover and a loser.
She accepts to have that marriage in name only, even if she’s a bit hurt because she thought he at least wanted to try.
Of course she has a makeover so now she’s hot, and with tits that make every man want to shag her.
He falls in love with her but there are a lot of misunderstandings and lies, and a lot or his exes coming around.
I really hated the guy, looks apart, he didn’t have anything for him.
Yes, he was kind and not the usual asshole, and thankfully there’s no violence, cheating or else, so I could read the book.
But I am quite tired of reading books with heroines that are smart, accomplished, kind and all they can see is how hot the hero is, and they’re salivating whenever he makes a compliment.
This is degrading, childish and unacceptable.
It’s true that he falls in love with her, with her personality and afterwards also with her looks, but there were too many ow that thought he was gods gift to women, sorry not me, not me, not meeeeee.
In the end, I didn’t like the man but I could read the book without feeling disgusted or angry, which is something.
But I hated the double standard and the hero’s conceited remarks about how she was not his type at all.
…of course she was not his type, he had sex with brainless bitches that were also evil and nasty. She was too good for him.
Safety.
Not safe. The hero has a f-buddy but it’s unclear if he stopped having sex when he agreed to the marriage with the heroine or just before the wedding. He says it was weeks since he was with her, even before seeing the heroine again. Then there’s a stripper he thinks he would like to have sex before the wedding but he doesn’t.
The heroine of course was a virgin. Yuck. She had to take other women’s leavings sigh and be happy.
Victorian age is long gone, please remember this when you write contemporary fiction.

Maeve and Callum

Callum was blackmailed into marrying Maeve. And boy, did he resist. He had some unflattering and insulting words and thoughts about Maeve, trying to get out of marrying her. He was willing to marry anybody but her and even offered to marry her sisters because at least he could “get hard with them”. What a catch Callum is. 🙄 But it had to be Maeve so he did it to save his bar.

Maeve was lied to and manipulated into marrying him but she did have a crush on him and went into it with good intentions, unlike Callum who went into it openly planning to divorce shortly after. He told Maeve right after their wedding that they’d be living separate lives. He didn’t even want to try. So their marriage was on the rocks from the start.

I liked Maeve and her “make the best of it” attitude. She knew what she offered in a relationship, she knew she was smart and sociable but she also knew she wasn’t Callum’s type and accepted that he didn’t love her and assumed he would cheat.

As for Callum, he’s one of the least self aware MMC ever written. He started out as a manwhore idiot and his progression as a husband really didn’t get better. I always felt like he was on the verge of cheating. He always seemed open to it. He was just this guy who looked at women as sexual objects to please him, and he was not sexually attracted to Maeve at all so in his mind, there wasn’t much she could offer him. His actions with other women were pretty disrespectful to Maeve and it took his friends, brothers and even Maeve to explain why he can’t put other women ahead of his wife and expect her to stick around. By this point he was claiming he was in love but his actions did not show it.

There’s a really long 3rd act breakup that is 1000% Callum’s fault. And he didn’t get why until it was explained to him. I mean, this was near the end of the book and the guy is just as clueless and self absorbed as he was in the beginning. He spent a lot of time feeling sorry for himself that it took his mother’s Irish bluntness to straighten him out. Really, Maeve should’ve left him. I would’ve strong advised it if she were my friend. And she had plenty of friends around who should’ve told her that Callum can’t be trusted. She deserved someone so much better.

In the end, I’m not convinced it’s a HEA. It’s more like a very weak HFN.

I didn’t like the entire plot. There were some interesting characters, and I did like how steady and likable Maeve was but Callum was impossible to like or trust. Will not continue this series.
