He Sees You...

The year is 1894. Two years since heartbroken carpenter Edwin Cooper might have become a widower. Two years since self-willed airship pilot Nell Sykes might have become the other woman.

The all-seeing, all-powerful Institute of Thinkery has lost its top Thinkery scientist - Professor Crowleigh. He is somewhere in Denmark, tenuously connected to eight bodies. Manipulated by The Institute into finding Crowleigh, Cooper learns the truth he thought he wanted, a truth that collides with the life he shares with Sykes. Hope is replaced by heartbreak, a trade of emotions that spins him into a darker world.

The body count climbs. The Institute claws closer. Who, and what, is Professor Benedict Crowleigh?

Can a man who is the enemy, be the man who leads Cooper towards a life of happiness?

An amazing follow-on from Outpost 9!

The storyline delves into complex character ideas and feelings, while being easy to read and engaging! For a newbie to historical sci-fi, I love this book more than the first. Very well done Linnhe!

Strong with lots of action and great plot!

The Institute of Thinkery is responsible for research and development of Thinkery technology. They lured intelligent women with low income to work for them but instead were their experimental victims. The Institute gave their husbands jobs at outposts with a generous salary. This is how Edwin ends up living on a remote island. He is joined by Nell, a former military officer who left after being injured to be with Edwin. Presumably, Edwin’s wife is as good as dead at the hands of The Institute.

The novel begins with Edwin being picked up by the military at his house and taken to the Institute. This is a surprise as Edwin was still living there as he was in exile for treason. They also grabbed Nell since she was there too. After all, she was initially one of their own. It turns out they want his help with locating a top scientist that worked for them. He went AWOL in Denmark and they need him to continue with their work. How far will The Institute go? The answer is quite chilling!

I was so addicted to this story that I read it in one day. The relationship between Nell and Edwin feels authentic. Doing what’s right isn’t as easy as they think it is. Both must face if their actions are right or wrong. For themselves, before God and others. As the reader, I am unsure how I feel about some of the actions they took. It certainly has me contemplating the fact that truth shouldn’t always be relative. There are some absolute truths. I think our characters are caught between what they feel and what they think they should feel about certain situations.

The book starts off strong and stays that way throughout the story. There is a lot of action in this book! It really takes off after the first few chapters and just doesn’t stop!

This book has most of what a good book should have. The action, the relationships, the good vs. evil, and the ability to give us something to think about. It’s a dystopian society set in the late 1800’s with what is science fiction as well, what a winning combination! I highly recommend!

Edwin and Nell's story continues with a bang...many bangs! This sequel to Outpost9 is a page turner from start to finish. The world the author has created for this series is unlike anything I've ever read before...a historic dystopia with elements of steam punk and horror, and a love story to cling to throughout. I can't wait for the third book. Disturbingly brilliant!
