This is a very honest book about what it is like being a professional opera singer. Robert Tear uses personal anecdotes to make this book very funny. His dry sense of humour is very apt when talking about auditions and getting your first big break. I loved the way he said that he never sang at his best when he was offered parts and when he was on top form he never got the part! As he says sometimes you just don't the director's vision for the part or you don't fit with the other principals that have already been cast.

A good read if you want to know more about working in the opera industry.
