Olivia only knows Alex by his powerful, elusive reputation. She looks at him and sees a man skillful at keeping secrets and ruining lives. But the circumstances surrounding the murder of someone close to them leave Olivia little choice but to seek out his help. Alex holds all the answers. He’s also the one person standing in Olivia’s way of uncovering the truth about the night her world fell apart.
Alex sees the pain in Olivia’s eyes, and he wants to show her there is more to life than loss, more to a man than his image. There are selfish reasons why he cannot let her go—reasons beyond his control. He must give in to his instincts about her without exposing the extent of his deceit.
I LOVED that this book intertwined murder and romance. I read so many suspense/ thrillers that sometimes I need to take a break and read something with more of an uplifting mood, like a romance novel. This book was a combination of my two favorite genres and had quite a compelling plot. The plot unraveled in such a way that I was hooked very early on. It was nicely paced throughout with a lot of imagery and elaboration on the characters and the different settings, and an impressive amount of figurative language. There were a lot of characters introduced very early on and I was wondering if I was going to be able to keep them all straight, but the author does a great job developing each one and connecting them in such a way that I was able to follow easily. Olivia is our protagonist in "Back to You." She is in her mid twenties and she's strong willed, clever, unpredictable, and can stand on her own two feet. She lived on the street and in shelters for a portion of her life after her parents died in a car accident. However, her life quickly took a turn for the better after being set up on a blind date meeting Erik, a very wealthy, very successful lawyer. Olivia and Erik fell in love and were going to spend their lives together; they were to be married. But, imagine finding out the most horrible thing the day before your wedding day, okay now take all of those ideas that popped into your head and combine them together. Well that's what happened to Olivia. Unfortunately for Olivia, being Erik's fiancé came with a certain kind of lifestyle which caused Olivia to be surrounded by a group of affluent, self righteous, entitled women in their mid twenties/thirties. Within this clique of women, there was one character in particular that I absolutely loathed. The character of Court, a snooty, manipulative woman who loved to cause drama. As much as I loathed her, she kept the book interesting. To make matters worse for Olivia, Erik's best man, Alex, a divorce lawyer and a divorcee himself reveals some things to Olivia about Erik that completely shocks her. Could this all be true? And why is Alex holding back telling her the WHOLE truth? Alex may be a womanizer and a control freak, but he has a sensitive side too. He is a character you can't help but love to hate. There was really only one thing I didn't like about the plot. I didn't like how the detectives didn't have any leads throughout the book. There needed to be SOMETHING that they had found or heard from a witness or someone that had talked throughout the group of friends. It made the police seem lazy and I didn't like that. I give "Back to You" by Emily Duvall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ four stars!
This was such a great romance read, the relationship between Alex and Olivia was believable to swoon worthy. This book didn't end too soon and kept me engaged throughout. Alex is alpha male stand offish divorce lawyer and Olivia is nurse. Their relationship was rocky from the start as they are both with other people, Olivia is in the middle of planning her wedding when her husband is found died. The roller-coaster of trying to find out who could do such thing and her financial problems force her and Alex to come to a conclusion that will benefit both of them. Can he protect her? Alex may have to find an arrangement that helps him get his family off his back and solve her money issues once and for all. my favorite scene "Alex shoved his hand inside her coat, grabbing her waist before she could button up her coat. I'm offended you called our kiss a peck. I'll be stopping by later tonight to change your opinion." Highly recommend for all lovers of romance stories!
Yes!! A romance novel which captures the romance! I couldn't put it down. That's all. No seriously, I was addicted. Emily has done a great job of not only capturing the relationship between Olivia and Alex, but also her reader! Having read her first book which, let me say, for a first book was awesome, I felt that in writing Back to You she manages to blow it out of the water. A great story line, detail where detail is required (for a romance!) and visible progress in Emily's writing.
I loved this book. I can really relate to Olivia. Being betrayed by Alex. Having a double life are a few of the examples. Luckily my ex did not have a baby with the bimbo.
Back To You is a book that I never would have picked up myself. I’m not usually into romantic suspense, but I am so thankful to a friend who recommended it to me. I thought the plot was executed perfectly, the pace was very good, and the budding romance was hot and believable. The writing was good, but I did find that the long winded inner monologues were a little overdone at times. And that’s probably just a preference on my part. I also was a little confused at times when characters were having a conversation. It was hard sometimes to tell who was saying what, so that pulled me out of the story a few times. But overall the writing was engaging and atmospheric. I was kept guessing right up until the very end, and I absolutely applaud any author who can achieve that with me. There’s nothing I hate more than a predictable mystery. Olivia was an amazing main female character. She has been through so much both as a child and now as an adult, and I felt every blow she was dealt. She is so strong and I admire her for overcoming all the obstacles life has thrown her way. Alex. Oh Alex. The once bitten, twice as cold asshole. He was one of those alpha dudes who comes across as distant and emotionally walled off, and he is for good reasons. He was also dealt a shitty hand. He was left to deal with Erik’s mess and expected to keep secrets too. You could tell he really hated it, and I felt so bad for him. In the background, we are surrounded by rich and backstabbing people who are keeping secrets as well, and I hated them all to be honest. Especially Court. I don’t think I’ve ever met a more vain and superficial person. She was the worst.
Back to You by Emily Duvall is a great combination of mystery, murder and romance. It kept you guessing right up to the twist of an ending. It was the first book that I have read by Emily Duvall but it will not be my last. Her characters are full of life and act like people you know or have heard about.. I recieved a copy thru a Goodreads giveaway.
I really liked this book. You want to cheer for Olivia. You want her to overcome the tragic things that have happen in her life. To get over her toxic friendships. To become stronger and happy. I thought I knew who the killer was but the plot twist was surprising . I only wish the book was longer. I would like to know want the future was for Olivia and Alex. Read this book you will enjoy it!

Great romance story, with suspense as well. Romance that is a little dangerous is also interesting to me. I'm going to try her other books; if they are similar she's got a new fan for life.
Enjoyed very much. Suspense, romance, twists to unexpected ending. I love a book where I don't figure out the who done it early on. Kept me reading to solve the mystery, but I didn't want it to end.
Really enjoyed this story! I expected more of a simple romance story but got so much more. Full of drama, backstabbing, cheating, lies and of course love! Great drama and full of surprises.
Great read. I love when I don't figure out who did it too soon. Writing kept me interested, going between the romance and the suspense. Read in less than 24 hours, the only thing slowing me down was not wanting it to end.
When I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway, I had high hopes for it. The setting and characters, however, were quite foreign to me. I just couldn't relate with the resetting crowd from D.C.. Their values and experiences were so different from mine that I just couldn't empathize.
