The Breakfast Club fucked to death by Dante’s Inferno. Thanks to a balls-up by a moron God, all humans go to Hell when they die. But the Academy that trains demons to torture can’t churn out students fast enough to cope with demand, and so as an experiment a human is enrolled to see if the damned can be used shore up the number of tormentors. But first she has to survive the harsh lessons of Damnation 101… In a high school in Hell four students end up in detention together; Dro)))ne, a fallen angel who thinks he’s better than everyone; El Pendejo, a half unicorn, half Mexican wrestler demon; Bibbidibobbidibu, an insecure imp with a lot to live up to; and Zsa Zsa, a recently dead Generation XXXer whose life before death was already Hell-on-Earth. Between bouts of gang rape and extreme brutality they get to talking, painting with body fluids a picture of relentless horror, of life and lessons at the Academy; the “Violence Fair” of students competing to build the best killing machines; cliques; a food fight with the corpses of near-extinct animals and genetically modified babies; bullying; a biology lesson dissecting angels the size of whales; fucking with the janitor (who happens to be Hitler); and a good old fashioned school shooting... British bizarro author Kevin Sweeney takes us on a trip through hell like we've never seen before in his balls-to-the-wall debut novel from StrangeHouse Books. Damnation 101 will leave you shocked, stunned, and crying for more!

"Everyone experiences Hell in their own special way..."

Highschool is hell, between the cliques, the homework, and the obnoxious teachers high school can really be a place of torment for a lot of people. Now imagine a high school IN hell......

Damnation 101 by Mr. Kevin Sweeney was rather entertaining. I will admit right off the bat that I skipped the first three pages. I am not preachy with my inability to read rape so I'll just leave you with if you have a less than capable mind to read the brutal rape scene in the beginning I would skip it but not the whole book. The book as a whole is def. worth the read and picks up with the humor quite quickly. First author to be able to take torture and rape (which are not my forte) and write it in such way that makes it easier to bear and digest with the witty dialogue and the tongue and cheek reactions.

In Damnation 101, the demons, ghouls, and monsters of Hell have got their work cut out for them. Humans have had it all wrong for centuries with their religious beliefs and because of this every single human on the planet goes to Hell when they die. It becomes apparent that there are not enough torturers in Hell to keep up with the overflow of humans that are making their way into eternal damnation. Eternal damnation can only be eternal if there is enough "man" power to pass along. One solution is to implore humans to do the torturing on other humans. So a few select are chosen as a sort of experiment to see if any humans have what it takes to inflict eternal pain on their species. Zsa Zsa, our main character is chosen for this very task. .

My favorite construction of this story is getting to go back and see what each student did to land them in detention. Each side story is really well written and entertaining and for such a short book you get a lot of back story to each character. Just like in any high school, Hell's detention is filled with an eclectic bunch of rule breakers. But the rules that they break is not your average detention worthy crime. We have the Imp; Bibbidibobbidibu, Bibi for short who opens up our story with a rather disturbing rape scene, a Demon by the name of El Pandejo who is hiding a deliciously sinister secret (a super silly secret), the Fallen Angel with an incredible sex drive and a cock to match, and representing Mankind we have Zsa Zsa, who since having a less than happy upbringing by her abusive father all her life, fit the bill quite well to withstanding the tortures of Hell.

After they tell their sides we then get to see what they end up doing once they are out of detention and functioning as horrific demons that terrorize the human race, we get a taste of what they learned and how they have progressed which I thought was wonderfully clever.

I loved when Zsa Zsa is reading the books in the library and makes mention of bizarro writers basically writing crap and trying to top the next violent gory author. It gave me a giggle being someone who genuinely enjoys the bizarro genre and has read quite a bit of it lately in the past year.

The play on The Breakfast Club was just enough without stealing the entire template and just plugging and chugging a story along. It's very original in it's delivery and comically hilarious with it's spoof on the beloved 80's movie.

Wow. There aren't enough grotesque words in the English language for how nasty this little book is. Sure, it's what would happen if THE BREAKFAST CLUB was located in Hell, but it's also so much more than that. Imagine being raped so many times that you're just bored with it. Even though it still hurts, you just can't bring yourself to care about it. That's the kind of hellish vision Kevin Sweeney brings us. If you're easily offended, you will not like this book. If it's hard to offend you, you still might want to stay away. Sweeney doesn't aim his offense at just one group, or even a handful of groups; he's out to offend EVERYONE. Brace yourself for a book where torture, torment, despair, and obscenity are so rampant that they simply don't matter anymore. You're not likely to find another book like this.

1.5 stars Wavering between "Okay" and "Didn't Like"

I've read Ed Lee, Wrath White, and many other hardcore horror writers and somehow they made me "okay" with what I was reading and used the depravity in such a way that I was able to get something out of the story.

In Damnation 101 the author starts off talking about Harry Potter and that idea stuck in my head while reading the book and I was able to see, whether real or imagined, a lot of similar things in this story. Maybe the author would have been better off not mentioning that name whether that's where the ideas came from or not.

Humans believed in the wrong thing and they actually go to hell when they die. Hell is running out of torturers so they induct a human to see if they will work. In hell, kids have to learn too. It's not hard to imagine the flip side of doing things. Humans heal, they kill. We love, they hate. The kids must pass their classes of torture and death.

This read starts out with ball-busting and a "daddy rapes son" scene. This is a warning. It leaves a dull feeling inside. There is no levity, no reasoning, just one of the students wanting to pass a class and degrade the victims. I kept reading and the story didn't change my mind or lighten up.

That set the tone for the rest of the book. It went from one extreme to another without any break for the reader. Bizarro doesn't have to be laugh-out-loud funny, but there definitely needs to be varying plots points and at least one character that the reader can be disgusted with or root for.

This read was not for me and it wasn't the extreme-ness of the read, it was the execution.

The stories at the end were the best.

DAMNATION 101 by Kevin Sweeney

Well, I didn't even know this book existed until it came through my letterbox. I opened it up, intent on having a sneak peek to see what it was all about, and before I knew it, I'd finished it!!
It was insanely fucked up and totally savage from the outset, and it didnt let up at ANY point!! 🖤

Zsa Zsa finds herself in hell, and the first human in an experiment to see if humans can go to school and be taught the trades, the trades of Torturer, Tormentor and Tempter! If she fails, it's off to an eternity of unceasing horror! She teams up with Dro)))ne, a fallen angel, El Pendejo, a half unicorn, half Mexican wrestler demon and Bibbidibobidibu, an insecure and evil imp! The gang have some interesting experiences together along the way, some hilarious, bizarre, utterly violent, totally depraved and gnarly experiences.
Kevin made sure that the reader felt most of the torture along with the characters in the story, especially the grater 😲, as the images he describes are vivid, and the torture is very inventive, fantastical and crazy good!

I loved the separate little stories for each character in the epilogue too, Bibbis was my favourite!

Unfortunately, I dont think this book is available any longer but it was so much fun, if you do manage to get your hands on a copy, grab it and read it straight away!

I need a minute.....

Ok, after a few days, I am ready to review. I did not know what to say about the book at first. I really liked it overall, that is for sure, but this is a seriously demented creation. I may have hit my threshold with this one. I don't know what I would do if I was to read something that went any further in it's depravity.
The physical makeup of the characters really cool and the development thereof was creative and well done. All humans are now eternally damned. Hell is running out of tormentors, etc. and Zsa Zsa is the first human to be trained as one at a high school like facility. The re-telling of each student's infraction and the detention scene did remind me of a certain movie, in a good way. It was also great to see what happened to each character later in life. I definitely won't forget this one.

Kevin Sweeney is what happens when good authors go bad. But I mean that as a complement. The man seems to make torture not only bearable, but adds to it eloquence and delight. Like an executioner who is fond of his work, Sweeney brings an air of giddy pleasure to the torments of the damned and flaunts them like a gorgeous, sweat-laden stripper bares and shares her bountiful bod. I gorged upon the book and felt myself wanting a napkin afterwards. Like a feast of greasy food, I knew it was potentially harmful to my innards, yet I relinquished all self control and found the authors voice beckoning like a devil on my shoulder, saying "read it, read it, or I'll kick your ass!" And I reply, "Oh no Mr Devil don't hurt me," he says, "Okay, only if you read it and then go torture someone," to which I reply, "I will, if you say so buddy."

I so wanted to love this book. As a lover of extreme horror and a fan of bizarro, I thought this would have been my perfect read. Unfortunately this was not the case.

The first chapter pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the book. It details the torture and rape of a child. None of this is done off scene and to say it was tasteless would be an understatement. I think there's a fine line that shouldn't be crossed when using children in horror books, this book not only crossed that line, it cartwheeled over it naked.

I also thought the writing was lazy, it takes more than copious amounts of bodily fluids and gore to make a good extreme read. Good writers in bizarro and extreme horror realise that you have to give your book depth, good characterisation and a story that goes somewhere. This read did none of those.

The only saving grace for me were the stories at the end detailing the characters lives after college. Not nearly enough to salvage it though.

This is the best/worst, most awesome/awful ( and by worst and awful I mean like the 80's use of bad and wicked being good) thing that I've shoved into my peepers in a while. "The Breakfast Club" but set in a school in hell for trainee torturers; it's funny, gross, and all kinds of darkly wonderful.

I'd recommend to; New parents, nuns, primary school teachers, mothers against drink drivers, and those wanting to buy the perfect gift for their tween nieces.
