Not a religious book...

In the near future, Helel (Lucifer) and his demonic hosts are cast out of Heaven and thrown to the Earth, where he will lead his wicked army into the portals of time to destroy humanity, and more determinately, the Messiah. If he is victorious, all creation, including the Throne of Heaven will be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity. Even the integrity of God hangs in the balance if the Messiah is destroyed before His time.

Heaven's angels have been sent into the world as well, to prepare for the Great War against Helel. However, the angels are not aware of their own immortality, for they are "asleep" in human form, walking the earth in dormancy until they are awakened by the 7th angel.

Dr. Malecki Sadeq, a Biblical Archeologist and professor at St. James University has an interesting past. In fact, he often lectures his students on the existence of angels and demons using his own experiences. And just beneath the centuries old cathedral on the university campus, he guards a horrifying secret; an evil bound for over 500 years, is held prisoner until his judgement - the demon, Raphan.

Malecki must confront the demon in order to determine Helel's plot, which will eventually lead him the False Prophet and hopefully save all creation, even Heaven itself from eternal damnation.

His adopted son, Christopher is the 7th messenger born of a virgin; sent to awaken the "sleeping angels" at the appointed time. Malecki finds him shortly after he was half-born in an alley of a small Colorado town on a cold, rainy October night. His mother, a young Hopi girl died trying to birth him just before the demons arrived to kill him for his special blood. Malecki saved the infant from the demons and raised him as his own son, knowing very well his hidden purpose.

In time, the false prophet builds the third holy temple and unites the world. But this one is not the Ambassador of Peace the world is deceived into believing. The false prophet has intentions to ravage, to kill, and to destroy.

3.5 stars....

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Simple synopsis: God has cast Satan (named as Helel) and his followers out of heaven and sent them plummeting to earth for imprisonment. In time, they are released from their captivity and begin their plot to wage war against God and reenter heaven. In the process, God's Word would be proven fallible, resulting in the end of all existence. The book's main characters are charged with the task of fending off the assault of the fallen ones.

Stories of biblical fiction concerning the end times always interest me and this one did not disappoint. The story was very interesting right from the beginning. In many places, the author used a writing style that flowed almost poetically and was very reminiscent of biblical works, and that lent a feel of realism to the story.

The book contains elements of biblical prophecy, time travel and even a romance that is central to the story. It is very complex in nature as it bounces back and forth between time periods. As other reviewers have mentioned, this story requires full focus. There are an array of characters that appear once and are not heard from again until many chapters later. It is very easy to forget about them but it is crucial to keep them fresh in your mind.

Much of the middle portion of the story was concerned with one of the main character's romantic relationship. The relationship plays a role in the story so it was not unnecessary but the story suffered during the time that the romance was dealt with. The story as a whole was difficult to follow at times. The story itself was very complex but also there were instances where something occurred or was said that was not explained, and it was difficult to figure out what just took place.

Day of Rain wrapped up with an exciting conclusion that, admittedly, answered a couple of questions I had about some things that previously took place. That eased my mind quite a bit and helped in my enjoyment of the story.

This is a total knock your socks off kind of book. It is Biblically based but fiction and must be read as such. It is the end times as seen through the eyes of this author and it will absolutely scare the reader to death from the possibility of its feeling of reality. I have read a lot of novels concerning the last days and never have I read one that approaches it from this angle. He even presents the false prophet as a female, which was a totally new concept for me. But the way he presents the story makes it absolutely believable. The leading characters are strong personalities that have the reader sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next. The story is long and the scenes change frequently, often switching from the present to the past or even to the future so it requires the reader to concentrate full attention on their reading. This is not a book you would take to the beach or, as I often do with other books, read as you knit or do something else with your hands. NO WAY !! This is a very deep look at the end time events and requires the reader to pay constant attention to what you are reading or you will soon find yourself lost and having to turn back pages to re-read the last few pages to get caught up. For the reader who loves Biblical fiction as I do and has an interest in the possible way end time events may evolve, I would highly recommend this intense novel. But it is not for the casual reader or the reader looking for a light afternoon read. Mr.Hartway has obviously put a lot of time and research into this novel and it deserves the readers full attention to give it the thought and understanding it deserves. Great writing by this author and I hope many readers will give it a chance and not be scared away by the length as it will keep your interest up so much that the pages will pass much faster than you expect.

The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.

Being the author, I, of course rate this as a 5-star. The book covers a lot of ground within 353 - 425 pages (depending on what format you read), and is loaded with twists and turns, and provocative subject matter that makes you say, "what if..."

In the Forewarning (which is my version of a Prologue), the journey begins with the "watcher" peering down onto the world in a glimpse (outside the spectrum of time). He sees what was, what is, and what shall be. An in his 'seeing' he is intrigued by the sequence of events that will have a deleterious effect on the fate of mankind. He awakens from his dream as a mortal, trying to make sense of these visions -- but he is much aware of his purpose.

This book wastes no time getting into the action and intrigue that will ultimately lead up to the conflict. However, there are no spoilers; the journey through this book is unpredictable for the most part. Each of the characters has a story to tell (in another book or books...hint), although this story details the main characters, Chris and his father Malecki.

DAY OF RAIN - Rise Of The False Prophet, in it's essence, it about purpose... ultimate, intended purpose, and the struggle to be who we were meant to be. If you can get past the somewhat horrific substance in the earlier chapters, you'll find the novel balances itself out (more like a roller coaster ride that gives you a short reprieve before the next plunge).

In all, the book (in my opinion) is a fun read, although it is not intended for the fearful, or people under 17 years old.

Enjoy.

The author wraps this engaging tale of the end of days around an unsuspecting, doubtful 'witness', demons and angels, and destinies long decided. With convincing prose and welll-drawn, vivid characters and world-building, he takes readers on a journey inside what the world might look like with Helel and his demons having been cast down , determined to kill the Messiah and lay waste to the earth and its inhabitants, and I must say it looks familiar. This eminently believable, suspicion-stirring, eye-opening, yet chilling plot will leave readers certain that the end of days are already in fact upon us!
