One Shattered Sister It's the story of Marcy King (Clay's sister) In Marcy's book we will hear the sad story of her addiction that Clay struggled with and why he was determined to help Mando at any cost. Even if it meant losing her.
I live in Mississippi better known as “THE SIP”,were I was born and raised, except for a short time I spent wondering the beaches of Destin Florida. I have two wild and weird (I’m told they take after me) kids, Dominick & Oliviana, who are the light in my life and married to a very patient and loving man named Rob. I work a full time job Monday – Friday in collections (No I didn't call you). I am half Mexican and half American in other words I AM BROWN! =] I enjoy singing extremely loud thou I can’t really, dancing around for hours which I do often, and watching my kids just be kids. I enjoy old music and great books. I am eclectic, and I’m pretty much always happy. I believe we should all have fun sometimes and then when we do something stupid, WE SHOULD WRITE ABOUT IT! If I could be anything when I grow up (yes when I grow up because I currently refuse to) I would want to be a full time superhero. Wear awesome boots, have long full flowing hair, wear my panties on the outside of my clothes (and have it be ok), ride on a magical horse with wings, and save the world. Who wouldn’t want to do that?
Another amazing story of loss by Delia Steele. Delia should be praised for writing such a heart touching series. If you or anyone you know has any addiction, you really need to read this series. It takes you to so many different point of views. Clay's sister, whom he loved very much, has an addiction. It's slowly killing her along with everyone who loves her, especially Clay. He tries helping her in every way he knows possible but unfortunately it was too late. She owed money to her drug dealer, which was also the father of her unborn child no one knew about except her. So not only did Clay lose her, he lost her unborn child she never had the chance to tell anyone about. Such horrible loss. But like Delia stated, "Its sad to lose someone you love, but sometimes those we love have to leave so that those we will love can survive." Such a strong statement, but it's so true. Life has so many twists and turns, but everything happens for reason, one we may not understand at the time, but one we will understand in the future.
This author amazes me. How she give us such a deeper understanding of the characters we love by telling a short story about a completely different, yet essential, character. I love Clay. I have since Trailer Park Princess. The way he tries to help Rory in subtle ways, even though the rest of his group treats her like crap. And it isn't because he's into her; it's because that's the kind of guy he is. A good guy who tries to help a girl in need. I've seen some people basically call him a pansy or pushover when it came to Mando. And I can see where they're coming from; though I never saw him that way. He was treating her delicately, giving her what she needed to get her to a place where she would accept her addiction and be willing to get help. He knew how he had to approach her because he'd been through it all before with his sister. Marcy. The main character in this short story. The girl who played a vital role in the creation of the man he became. The man whose Mandoconda and huge heart made us fall in love with him.
I realize it seems kind of crazy to write a review about a character who isn't a main character in this story, but without Marcy - her life, her death, her story - Clay wouldn't be the man he is, and I love him so much more after reading this story.
This story was a great addition to this series. Where the characters in the main books tend to overcome their struggles, the ones in Ms. Steele's short stories tend to not. And that's how life works. This author keeps it real, and that's one of my favorite things about her books. My thanks go to her for gifting me a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this read, and I can't wait for the next book in this series.
One Shattered Sister may be a quick read but it is one that will leave you shocked, broken, and shattered. Author Delia Steele never fears her characters and what they tell her to write. She has proven this yet again with the amazing telling of the most critical point in Marcy's life but also Clay's. Now we truly understand why and how Clay gets Mando from "High Class Harlot" so well.
Marcy's death and how Clay handles it is what ultimately puts you in the correct mind set when looking at Clay and how he was abel to make his decisions when facing Mando's wrath. We all knew Clay had to be a little crazy when taking on Mando but now we know he was a white knight sent to save her.
Many thanks to author Delia for keeping it real and telling it how it should be. Life isn't always pretty but sometime we have to roll with the bad stuff before we find our white knight.
If you love a gritty romance with a lot of real life heart then pick up the Switching Tracks series "Trailer Park Princess" and "High Class Harlot".
"The one sister I had is now shattered. My life is shattered."-Clay
In this novella we meet Marcy Ann King, Clay's older sister. You know that name, what happen to her, but now she'll tell you her story with a few day's leading up until her intimately demise.
"the drugs didn't judge me; they were there for me."- Marcy
Her struggle. Her secret. Her acceptance of saying 'I need help.' But it all came too late for Marcy.
Marcy's story is heart wrenching. I love that author Delia Steeles gives her back characters their stories. These characters that we never got to meet, but has shaped the character's that we love so much. My heart was ripped out, even from the beginning because I knew how her story ended. With no happily ever after, just with what if.
Damn it Delia! You and you're great short stories!
Marcy wanted help and it was soo close!!! (Punches walls, and stomps foot before sitting back down) lol
Anyways... I freakin loved this one. I didn't think anyone could beat One Woman Warrior, but she snuck up behind her and high kicked her way into my heart.
Marcy King was the wild child from a rich family who just didn't understand her desire to fit in. Drugs/alcohol were her best friend, they didn't judge her or expected her to be what she wasn't.
But of course with illegal drugs come the bad guys... F*** you Derrick, with a big fat shovel!
The book gives us insight as to why Clay is the way he is, and how that horrible experience in his life helped save someone else..
Very good short story. Perfect for sitting at the drs or wherever you have s few min to read. We get to see the sad story of Marcy and why Clay was determined to save Mando at all costs. Once again Delia you made me cry. Thank you.
This is a very sad story, but one that happens more than we know. Even though it was short and sad, it filled in a few gaps for me. I recommend reading this book if you are reading the Switching Tracks Series. Delia Steele tells one awesome story.
Wow! Delia Steele sure knows how to write a powerful book, even though it is a short story. This left me in shocked. This is about a drug addict who is ready to get help but it's too late. I wish more people would want help.
Marcy King has a drug problem and a parent problem, she doesn't want to die, and considers getting help, but is forced to confront her dealer, with unexpected results
Wow. The emotions that are pulled off of this read are so intense. I am blown away by how Delia can make a fiction story so real that it shatters your heart. So realistic and powerful. Very moving.
