Absolutely loved this book and read it in 2 days! I couldn't put it down as it reels you in from the first page with its humour and great characters. This book had me smiling every few pages. I Would recommend to anyone who loves to get lost in romance and suspense. Cannot wait for the next one!

I loved this book from start to finish ... the characters are fantastic and quirky. The writing is excellent ... and I laughed out loud ... a lot. My only gripe is that it isn’t available in South Africa ... off the shelf ... but you can get it on Amazon ...

After coming over from South Africa with her fiancé, Paul, to conquer a career as a super successful actress, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for poor Jess Hollingberry.
Struggling to find work Jess thinks she has hit the jackpot when she answers an add for a singer working abroad in Cyprus.
As well as being able to work at doing something she loves, Jess does have an ulterior motive to going all the way to Cyprus. She is certain that Paul (who has been her fiancé for six long years!) will be reluctant to let her leave. Things haven’t been great between them lately, but when Paul seems fine with the idea of his future wife to be being in another country for three months (outrageous!) Jess convinces herself that he’ll soon realise how much he misses his fiancé when she’s not there.
So off Jess goes to Cyprus, determined to make this venture a success. Cue dodgy apartments, Cruella, a rather hunky Irishman and erm, problematic lifts…
Firstly, let’s talk Jess. I loved this woman…for me she was the ultimate chick lit heroine and I was on her side right from the very first page. Perhaps it’s because she is actually based on A Hopeaholic’s Hallelujah author, Vanessa Stevenson, she is so realistic and very easy to warm to. After all, she’s just like you and me, down to earth, catastrophe prone, and desperately trying to make the best of the situation that she finds herself in. She also says Sherbet a lot of place of something ruder… Show me a woman who can’t relate to Jess, she’s simply fantastic.
I found myself laughing, crying and cringing alongside her journey as she ventures to sunny Cyprus and struggles to please her (frankly terrifying) bosses, who she nicknames Cruella and Slimebucket. Although they are both characters you’ll love to hate, they cracked me up – especially Slimebucket…the man is so funny! His misuse of the English Language makes for some rib tickling dialogue.
A Hopeaholic’s Hallelujah is classic chick-lit. It’s warm, light, feel-good, has a beautiful man thrown in (Aiden. The hunky Irishman I mentioned earlier…) and will leave you with the biggest, soppiest grin on your face ever.
Reading this book is like feasting on a box of chocolates but without the calories. I swear it’ll produce the same feel-good endorphins as munching your way through a bar of Dairy Milk (or running a few laps around the park. The choice is yours…)
Vanessa makes you feel as though Jess is right there having a chat with you through her style of writing. Reading this book is just like having a gossip with your best friend and following her on an exciting, hilarious adventure at the same time.
The storyline is exciting and imaginative, making A Hopeaholic’s Hallelujah a page-turner of a novel that you can’t help but whizz through (and then miss when it’s over. Boo!)
If you need cheering up or just want to escape for a few hours then – Holly ha – I can’t urge you enough to pick up this book. It’ll brighten up your day and make you chuckle, BIG TIME.
The phrase ‘write what you know’ is one that’s often thrown around in the world of novel writing and I feel that that is exactly what Vanessa Stevens has done with A Hopeaholic’s Hallelujah. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it all the more fascinating (and at times surprising…SLIMEBUCKET ACTUALLY EXSISTS. EEEK.) but it’s written completely as if it were fiction, so it never feels autobiographical and if I hadn’t already known that ‘Jess’ was actually Vanessa then I never would have guessed.
Vanessa Stevens is an author who I desperately want to read more from. I love her voice and witty, hilarious style of writing will grab you right from the start of the story. Packed with romance, friendships and pure hilarity, this is a must-read for any chick-lit fan.

Aspiring singer Jessica moves to Cyprus to accept a contract to perform for the tourists. Unfortunately, Jessica’s experience does not go the way she envisions. Her accommodations are atrocious, the people who hired her are awful, her schedule is a stand-by on call position and she finds herself attracted to Aidan, one of her singing partners. I liked Jessica, Aidan and the other singers but I really struggled with staying connected to the story. I kept waiting for Jessica to make a decision about her future, whether it would be with Aidan or her fiancé, Peter; whether to stay in Cyprus or return to London. By the time she made the decisions, the book was over and I felt like the ending was rushed.
My Final Verdict: Though I found parts of this story enjoyable and entertaining, overall the storyline dragged on far too long with a rushed resolution.

A really great read! The author skillfully draws you into a different world where you share the intimate highs, lows and twists of her enthralling tale from intriguing start to bated breath conclusion...
